(MOD EDIT:) SPECULATION: Gronk to be traded to Tampa Bay?

This source of yours is finishing up the paperwork but has no idea what we’ve got in return?
In the OP’s defense, only the unretirement paperwork was mentioned. Maybe there’s a different trade paperwork employee with those details.

That's right. Just the unretirement paper work. Nothing about a trade from this person. They don't deal with that. That is why I started the thread to speculate what will happen. I am hoping for a trade with Tampa because I want the Pats to get something for Gronk and for him to get to play with Brady.

What's interesting is Gronk is not owed any money by the Pats. He fulfilled his deal. So any trade would not carry any salary for Tampa to have to pick up. They get to start clean and sign him to a new deal. That theoretically should help the Pats get a pretty good haul. Gronk will be 31 in May with an entire year off.
Doesn’t his contract toll since he retired? That is, his 2020 salary would be what he was owed as a 2019 salary? The Pats have no obligation since his cap hit is behind them, but I thought TB would be taking on his 2019 base pay payable in 2020 as the contract, until/unless they’re able to renegotiate it?

That sounds right. I was not sure how that worked with him retiring but it does toll. That would mean TB would owe him I believe $9 mil as the Pats already paid out the signing bonus. That would be a pretty good value for them or any team but I am sure Gronk would want a new deal anyways that would pay him north of $10 mil/year.

Take this for what this is worth but I have a friend in the Pats personnel who said he is currently working on the paper work to un-retire Gronk and then trade to Tampa Bay. I know this story has been making the rounds the last few days on the sports shows but it appears it could be a reality.
That cool how comfortable you are putting your friend's career and livelihood at risk by going to a public forum with something that was told you in confidence.

It sure seems to me that whenever someone says they have a "friend" working for the Patriots giving them inside info, whatever they predict never happens.

Yeah, this is kind of hard to believe. Tampa already has a strong TE unit and even if Gronk wanted to unretire, the Pats hold all the cards. What if they get a better offer from Cinci or Detroit? Would Gronk go somewhere else? Doubtful.
I am not so sure the Patriots hold all the cards. If Gronk unretired, I believe it would a $9 million cap hit (assuming no restructure, which is a pretty safe assumption IMHO). That's $9 million they can't afford.

It was not said to me in confidence. It's not like Gronk un-retiring is some earth shattering secret that can't get out. It has been all over the news lately as people have speculated that it could happen. The Pats have a ton of people that work in their personnel department and this person is working on the paper work. That's it. It may mean that Gronk stays a Pat or he is traded. I guess we will see what comes out of it. No one needs to believe the source. I was more interested in discussing the possibility for the Pats and what we could theoretically get for him.

Nothing about a trade?

GRONK IS BACK BABY!!!!

Why would Belichick trade him to Tampa Bay?

Just because it is being talked about on the radio doesn't give team personnel authority to openly discuss it. I do not believe for a single second that any member of the Patriots organization who spoke openly about such a thing would keep his/her job.

The last guy who had a friend in the know guaranteed Tom was reworking his deal to retire as a Patriot

Is this the guy???

You do realize that members of the Pats org speak on the condition of anonymity all the time to the media and others? I mean I know we all like to think the Pats are all tied up in bubble wrap 24x7 but it is not true in the slightest.

Get him out of the conference?

They could probably trade him to a number of teams. Why Tampa Bay? Why would Belichick help Brady, especially if the compensation is a bag of potato chips?

No, I do not realize such a thing. While it may happen rarely - certainly not "all the time" - I think the majority of instances are a combination of authorized leaks plus media making crap up.

Same guy I think...

I doubt terribly many teams are going to give up an asset for a player who would likely not show up.

Yeah, I've been hearing it's going to be a straight up trade for Tom Brady. Can you imagine Tom Brady in a Patriots uniform?!
