OT: When you go out, are you wearing a mask?

Just out of curiosity. I haven't to this point, but my wife and I were talking tonight and I think the concern level has reached a point where we're considering it when going to the grocery store but I'm curious to hear if others have reached that point yet.

I hold my breathe when walking past people. Girl at doctor told me today a mask will not help someone who is not sick ... touching an infected spot and transferring that to your body is the problem.

No, but i have severely limited my going out, If i catch this i have a very low chance of surviving it But the reason i dont is because none are available less available than hand sanitizer or toilet paper

My wife bought 4 with a pack of replaceable filters way back when this whole thing started on Amazon. Took like 4 weeks or whatever it was and up until this point, we haven't used them.

But now I'm only going to the grocery store at old-folks time (would you believe that they carded us?) and Whole Foods have been good about keeping the store from over-filling. Beyond that, I'm going for a daily jog and giving others a wide berth. The open air (obviously) has quite a different dynamic from an indoor space, but I don't mind being too careful.

We never bought hand sanitizer...that's impossible I'm halfway through a tiny bottle that was in my stocking from last Christmas that I keep in my car but otherwise, I've had zero luck there.

It's not a bad idea to wear one in locations where you think it'll be hard to maintain social distancing. Of course, we can point to the specifics:

"It's more useful if you're sick" - Well, yeah, true. But practicing caution only helps, and whatever steps we can take definitely pay off

"CoVID is 1 micron small, most masks are at least with 3 micron small perforations" - Well, like the dude on NPR said, and just by simple logic in general, you're going to be experiencing clusters of CoVID virus in any case, so they'll likely have a hard time getting in those 3-micron holes to begin with

"If it doesn't have a charcoal screen, you can't use it" - I'm pretty sure that's the benchmark for health professionals, which is understandable. Liability and all. But we're not directly assisting those who are sick/weak.

So it's up to you, truly. But never let someone tell you that you shouldn't. You are actively taking steps to avoid contamination, or contaminating yourself. And when the main danger of a virus is how contagious it is, you're being smart and doing a good job.

So, if you need to go to the grocery this weekend and fear how packed it's gonna be, go ahead and wear the mask. No one will judge you, and those who do are literally stupid, supremely selfish, and inconsiderate.

I am definitely not feeding into the panic and hysteria that is being created by the MSM but I will say that it seems like this particular virus COULD be transmitted from a person that is positive for Corona but IS NOT DISPLAYING SYMPTOMS that you would associate with symptoms (coughing etc) ....to another person simply by closely talking (and probably spitting some saliva) at them. THIS is why honestly I am a bit shocked that so few of you are taking his so lightly....especially in the Northeast (Mass and NY).....

I work in health care and get updates almost hourly.....it is the QUESTION MARKS or UNKNOWNS about this thing that is the most troubling for the foreseeable future.....so with that in mind I would STRONGLY encourage you to wear a Surgical style mask and Latex gloves whenever you are going into any facility other than your own house!!!! Wash your hands x 20 seconds with a lot of soap and lukewarm water FREQUENTLY if outside your house.....if not use Sanitizer anytime you touch anything (cardboard boxes, packaging in super markets etc).....and lastly try to at least stay 6 feet away from anyone you are talking to!!!

Your neighbors may be clueless and will get in your face like a lot of people do....have they come in contact yet and don’t know it/haven’t had any symptoms yet?!?!!! Who knows!..... Take care of yourselves and your families and take precautions until this thing subsides.....Stay Safe and healthy Pats Fans!!!

In Maine, "old folks" are 60. In laws went during old folks time (they're in their 80s). Said it was crazy. We have offered to shop for them, but for now have said no. They have pulmonary fibrosis so very high risk. Wish they would stay out of stores. And no to masks, but yes to gloves. And burning our clothes when we get home (Can't do that-Clothing stores aren't open).

No, because masks do little to nothing protecting you from incoming viruses as it can still enters through the sides of the mask or your eyes. People still haven’t gotten the memo they are made for surgeons so nothing leaves their nose/mouth and go onto your wound.

Masks are for any projectile. So wearing a mask is basically telling people you are sick with the virus.

People wearing masks make me paranoid.

I stopped going into stores.....I go where I can call in an order, pull up, they put it in the trunk

I get home, and one item at a time, I wipe it down with Clorox wipes, and hand them to my wife who brings them into the house

All the healthcare workers I know say it only makes sense to wear it if you think you have or might be carrying the virus. Not sure it accomplishes much on the other end.

Plus there's the shortage going on so we really shouldn't be taking them away from surgeons.
