I ask you the following question, Will the New England Patriots win a single additional game because Brian Hoyer is on the roster?

Obviously you can't give a definitive answer because it hasn't happened yet. However, one could use "common sense" to determine it's probably not going to happen.

You are losing this because there is no case for Brian Hoyer occupying a spot. You're fighting a losing battle.

no I'm not....the last I checked, the pats signed him and you're trying to play out your fantasy

We are now comparing Brian Hoyer to Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Joe Flacco and Eli Manning? You know you're reaching because there is no case for Hoyer being on this roster.

I didn't say anything about Hoyer in my post......pay attention

Your suggesting we go with 3 young QBs with a combined 1 years experience in one of the most complex offensive systems. If you can’t see the benefit of having a veteran to help the rookies in week to week prep, film breakdown and being another set of eyes on the sidelines during the games then there’s no point in continuing this debate.

no, Stidham beat out Hoyer for the developmental long term QB of the future. Not for the backup slot.

On today's episode of Patriots homers tying themselves in knots:

"Brian, you know how this works. We're cutting you for both roster maneuverability and cap management purposes. As I'm sure you understand, we can't do that with Jarrett, because we know someone else will grab him as a development project, which is what we're looking at him as. Stick around, though, because we want to bring you back."

- Patriots, last August/September:

"OK, coach, though this isn't optimal for me"

- Hoyer, last August/September, in response

"Sorry, coach, but I've got a no-brainer offer for good money, and there's no way you're going to even come close to matching it. I've got to take the gig. I'll be out in Indy, working with Biscuit."

- Hoyer, soon after

"Son of a $^@@$%#. Well, Brian, you know we wanted you back, but I understand. Best of luck."

- Patriots, taking Hoyer's call

"Brian, we saw that you got cut. We'd love to have you back."

- Patriots, just a few hours ago

"BB is the greatest. He really knows what he's doing, and you people questioning him are just clowns posting on a forum message board. Also, Brian Hoyer sucks, and he has no business being on the Patriots."

- Patriots homers, completely failing to grasp the contradiction(s) in their position.

True Story: Brian Hoyer won Super Bowl for Patriots

So you are stating that Hoyer, at age 33 in 2019, was a candidate to be "the developmental long term QB of the future."

not at all, but at $1.05M for one year, the value is good.....especially considering the Lions are paying Chase Daniel (also 33) 13M over the next 3 years.

there was an opening created by the departure of a QB.......and it was replaced by another QB who knows the system ..... there is literally no downside to this signing no matter how much anyone complains about it

The Pats also traded a 2nd for Sanu and drafted Harry in the 1st. What's your point?

Hire him as a coach. As a player he is simply occupying the spot that should taken by a potential long term solution. A rookie/rookie/Stidham combo is going to win the same number of games as a rookie/Hoyer/Stidham unit. Hoyer is not going to change the win total one iota, and he is in nobody's future plans. He's is simply taking the spot of another candidate.

don't have to get to 53 until september, if at all

He hasn’t made any indication he’s ready to retire and become a coach. Since the colts are pickup up half the tab were paying him very little to help mentor our young qb. We may say there’s a qb competition but in reality he’s here as a mentor and in case of injury. Chances are any rookies we bring in won’t be ready to play (late in the season best case scenario). God forbid stidham goes down and we throw a developmental guy in too early, that could destroy his confidence if things go south. Don’t want to see another Nathan Peterman.

More rookies and young prospects = more chances to hit on a good one. Having Hoyer on the roster takes one of those chances away. It's no more complicated than that.

Toms rookie season we kept 4 QBs on the roster. Who’s to say we won’t do that this season?

And why did we keep 4 you ask? Because we liked TBs potential and didn’t want to risk losing him while attempting to place on our practice squad. Yet we didnt feel comfortable putting him in live game action right away which is why we kept john friesz as the backup if drew went down. Did keeping friesz hender our chances of finding a good qb?

no more baseless than that, either

Stidhim, Hoyer, and rookie QB. See how it shakes out this year. Next year will be either Stidhim or the rookie
Yep...

Stid
Hoyer
Practice Squad QB

Bill chose him, Bill might as well play him from Week 1 and see what he has in him...Hoyer will be there to show him how it's done...what happens afterward is mostly up to the Kid...If Andrews returns and he & the rest of the OL stay healthy, then protection issues shouldn't be an excuse...

If Stid can show that he won't become a turnover machine if he has to drop back 30+ times, then Bill & McD will try to build their offense around him and what he does best...If he can't, then finding a #1 QB becomes Job 1 for 2021...Question might become, will the Early Bird allow the current administration to do that job?

You don't gamble, do you? More chances increases chances of success. 3 chances is better than 2. Can't be "based" in a more solid foundation than that.

It didn't matter because we already had one. I'm fine with Hoyer if we already have our QB. Until we have our QB, Hoyer should be washing cars.

Not a lot about special teammer Brandon Copeland here. I mean I'm just going to assume that any ST player on the market Bill is going to bring in.

Very simplistic but nope, it doesn’t work that way
