With Brady gone, why does everyone assume they will run the exact same system...
What do you think Stidham has been learning?

Was he in another room from Brady last year?

Brady gets hurt were going to have someone else run a different system?

Backup? More likely that Hoyer is the short term starter and Stidham holds the clipboard one more year. Unless Stidham blows away everyone in training camp which might be cancelled anyways due to you know what.

Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised at a .500 or worse season during our rebuild year. But Hoyer is the perfect patsie to take the lumps under a bad offensive line. I'd rather not put Stidham in until he is absolutely ready. You don't want him shellacked and destroy his confidence and body like Luck who had to retire early IF he is 'the guy'.

Another option that I like is to draft a high talent/potential QB and let them all have a camp battle for the starting job.

Love it.

Hoyer is the ideal backup QB in this situation. He has full understanding of the offense, is invaluable for the scout team during the season and -- above all -- is the perfect mentor for Stidham during camp and maybe even more so through the season.

Is Hoyer a lock? I don’t believe so.

I think he has a lot more value as veteran presence who knows the system inside out, does a great job as a scout QB (which is more important than ever with Stidham needing experience vs. various looks) and can give guidance on many things for Stidham (or any third QB) than whatever any fringe player on the 53 could add.

But YMMV.

The best way to grow and improve as a QB is to actually have a lot of reps in practice and obviously actual real game snaps. Unless Stidham doesn't make the projected jump, runs into some kind of wall in his development or we draft another more talented prospect that blows everyone away early I find it hard to believe that Hoyer will get the starts.

They kept Stidham last year over Hoyer even though the initial hope was to get him back before the Colts came in with a crazy contract. But as you are saying I agree that in the end it will be up to Stidham and his development.

Hoyer is literally a backup QB and also the backup plan in case things don't go as projected.

I think the job belongs to Stidham and Hoyer there in case Stidham falls on his face.

Depending on what happens in the draft Stidham is the starter. Hoyer is his new bestie. An extra coach without the "Bad cop" stuff. Hoyer has been around and back. Not much he hasn't seen or been through.
Agree. Was a good signing.

Hoyers experience will be valuable.

If Hoyer truly has a chance to be the starter and this was the last QB move of the off season then BB really blew it. If he's here to be the backup as I and most suspect then the move is solid. Brings someone into camp to help Stidham grow and be a sounding board between drives and in the film room. Can also take some first team reps without the team missing a beat in practice. Getting a functional backup for minimal money is not easy to do.

I would have been fine with them taking a flyer on someone like Winston if the contract was minimal as maybe BB could harness his talent and if not send him on his way. Problem is I think Winston still believes he is a $10M+ a year player and that is way too much.

Get ready for the most boring offense since 1993. Ugh, zero quality talent on this offense. Yuck! Let’s hope my prediction of 5-11 turns into 3-13 so we can land Trevor Lawrence and actually become a good offense again.

5 years of awful drafting on offense led us to this point. No more Brady to mask the weaknesses
Maybe you should become a TB Bucs Fan....Brady jerseys now on sale! Jk....hang in there....may be better than u think!

I think it only make sense to carry three if they get one in the draft. I wouldn’t Necessarily want a three of Stidham-Hoyer-Kessler.
Honestly ok with Stidham....and then Hoyer because he knows system...but if it’s a 3rd QB kept....I would imagine will come thru the draft

Yea you have a clue lol :rolleyes:
You’re literally providing nothing and yet here I am correctly describing the actual offensive system the Patriots use, that you claim I have no clue of.

Hit the bricks jack, you’re a waste of time to converse with.

Brady, a 6th round pick with little hope of becoming a starter seemed to pick it up in year 2. IMO, Stidham has more tools than Brady did entering year 2. The only thing we don't know about Stidham is the size of his heart
Brady is an anomaly. He’s the greatest quarterback to ever lace up a pair of cleats.

To use him as a barometer as to why Stidham will be fine is a pretty unfair comparison.

Replacing Kessler with Hoyer for vet min plus incentives doesn't necessarily finish our decision-making at QB. I expect us to go with 3 QB's.

Hoyer starting would be a unmitigated disaster
But unless something happens to Stidham (or if BB goes for another top QB in this draft perhaps) don’t have to worry about Hoyer.....and if he does have to come in..Cassel offensive game management schemes only!!!! GO PATS!!!!

I beg you are right. We have not picked up one FA that can be a guarantee 55 man roster lock.
All cannon fodder.

Sounds like Copeland is a good locker presence and we all know he can't be any worse than Elandon Roberts. A good depth signing.
Definitely no worse than Roberts and Fat Thor Beau Allen has played some reps at FB!

There is a lot of difference between guaranteed roster lock and cannon fodder. The players signed will compete for roster positions and reps, as all free agents should.

Curiously, players are usually considered roster locks when we give them big bonuses. So, had we given Byrd or Vitale a $3M signing bonus, they would likely be a roster lock.

Personally, I love the report coming out that Hoyer was told he would have a chance to start. I don’t know Stidham personally, so I have no idea what motivates him, but you’ve gotta think reading reports about guys being brought on as competition has gotta light a fire under your ass. If he wants it, he’s gotta earn it. Want those reps with the 1’s? You’re gonna have to beat out the other guys wanting the keys to the car. Stidham’s gonna have to maximize every opportunity he gets to prove his leadership on and off the field & and with his performance on the field. He’s either gonna break under the pressure, or rise up. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hoyer getting 1st team reps to start the offseason training program.
