This morning the cases are >14,000 after spiking 5k cases Thursday. IBD says they appear to be leveling off in Washington State, but they might be more used to watching market returns than virus outbreaks. Nowhere else mentioned though, and as they report that, people are building field hospitals on soccer fields, so, "we'll see what happens," as they say.

California as we all know is in lockdown.

Dow Jones Futures Signal Stock Market Rally Amid Coronavirus Stimulus Hopes; Tesla, Boeing, AMD, Nvidia, Amazon Rise | Investor's Business Daily

Futures are up though. I'm sticking with my heavily bond-weighted mix right now, and hoping that it matters.

Never mind all the politics for a second. How is everyone doing? My stress level is high, I'm limiting my exposure to the news and to facebook, which has turned into the fellowship of the miserable. Physical health is fine. Some panicky people I work with have got me on edge. I try to make light of it, for my own sanity.

"Ha. We know who survives a REAL zombie-pocalypse when one arrives."

I don’t remember that.

Sorry you missed that, do you remember the MSM criticizing Trump for the lack of 'diversity' on his coronavirus panel?

Staying shut in at home isn’t always “safe” for far too many people...

I fear the isolation, depression, violence, economic strife... could exceed the physical threat the virus poses. I hope breakthroughs come ahead of projections.
That’s why I don’t believe the 12-18 month scenario. For precisely the reasons you give, country after country will eventually give up, tell the highest-risk people to lock themselves in, and then rip off the band-aid and regretfully live with the resulting deaths to get it over with.

Bat research article from last month.

Even the Imperial College paper provides a model of suppression by which lockdown measures are pulled back for a period of time before being reimplemented over the course of the 12-18 months prior to vaccine production. I think that paper's a worst-case scenario (and Taleb had some choice words to say about it, and he's always entertaining and often correct) but even the worst case scenario doesn't envision a 12-18 month straight lockdown.

Look, there's no question the Trump Administration botched their initial response. The WHO is more to blame as they should have declared it a public emergency much earlier than January 30. That could have gotten world leaders attention a lot sooner. It's what happens when you rely on these stupid international organizations and not on your own people. For a country the size of the US, there are 14,000 cases (80% of which are mild), only 250 deaths. It could have been a lot worse. Perhaps if we acted sooner the death total would be less than 100. But I'd much rather be in the position we are in today than Iran, Spain, or Italy.

You're still really fixated on numbers that don't mean anything. There still aren't tests for everyone. New York is turning away anyone who doesn't have direct contact with someone who was already tested positive, and they're one of the best-equipped states. Doctors are reporting that ERs are overwhelmed and they don't have protective equipment nor testing capability. And even with all that, our numbers have doubled in two days.

Correct. I think they absolutely did but whatever. If the SEC wants to investigate I'm all for it.
They definitely did it LMFAO. Very clear insider trading. The problem is, unless you have a clear smoking gun, insider trading is exceptionally hard to prove.

We'll see if we can get the curve flattened...

We’re in better shape than Europe because we restricted travel relatively early. Of course this was widely criticized at the time, but if this virus follows a normal flu pattern and tails of in the spring, that delay probably saved thousands of lives.

When all is said and done it will be interesting to compare the impact of Wuhan CV to H1N1 ten years ago.

You are confusing the reporting of twitter nonsense with real reporting. I know it is difficult and I still dont understand why twitter posts are news worthy, but twitter is not real news.

The idea is to slow the rate of infection and not overwhelm hospitals

And the Attorney General would need to actually open an investigation, which isn't going to happen.

Asymptomatic NBA and European soccer players getting private tests is gross in an "only in the decadent west" sort of way but it's sort of fascinating in that it's giving us insight into the virus that we wouldn't have otherwise. With public testing generally only available for the symptomatic across the globe, we're seeing with the NBA and Valencia (and maybe some other teams) that there's a great deal of asymptomatic cases. Now, these are all extremely healthy people in their 20s and 30s so that finding is both a small sample size and not generalizable, but it's also very interesting when discussing the possibility for herd immunity (maybe a bunch of people already have it and don't know? Won't know until we get antibody testing), use of serum for treatment, tip of the iceberg theory, etc.

No Derby this year .............wonder if they will change the age requirement next year to make up for it...

it’s September 5th

Someone will run a crazy beyer figure.

additionally if there was no derby this year, changing the requirement would be absurd. You can’t have 4 year olds running against 3 year olds in a race like that.
