The Spanish Flu was the last time there was a virus anywhere near this level. They tend to happen in +/- 100 year increments.

Probably true, but now they can test for it, and with that data it can be combated and limited. A president nowadays can order stay-in-place lockdowns or many other measures via TV and SM and stop it before it reaches pandemic levels. Problem is, we didn't do any of that.

I don't think he's a moron, so you have to assume he willfully disregarded the facts in hopes this would somehow fly by. In reality, if he'd done the right things it probably would have gotten him re-elected. Now he sunk his own ship, though he'll try to blame everyone else for it for absolute sure.

Thank you. The vast majority of the time the most logical and simple explanation is the correct one. But unsanitary meat markets isn’t as exciting a story as a bio-weapon accidentally being released. Can we stop with believing the more unlikely explanation first?

I wish you were right, but you have to go back to the Spanish flu 100 years ago to find a pandemic as bad as this one is shaping up to be. Millions died (20m worldwide, 675k Americans - including 5 of my father in law's sibs who were all little kids at the time).

That flu did a number on kids while the elderly were not hit as hard, usually the other way around, it was the second wave of a worse strain that did the damage, My grandfather lost his two sisters.
