Is Taysom Hill worth an offer sheet?

  • Yes, at a franchise QB (or close to it) salary

  • Yes, but only at a lower salary or on a shorter deal, but still high enough that NO may not match

    Votes: 1 3.8%
  • Maybe - throw a lower offer at him and if NO matches, oh well, worth a try

    Votes: 1 3.8%
  • No! A first for him? Why would we spend money on a guy who's thrown like 30 NFL passes?

Curious for opinions. It's been discussed in a couple threads but only briefly. NO placed a first-round tender on him so the Pats would need to give up their first.

According to a quick glance at overthecap.com NO has $-7m in cap space so depending on the offer it may be difficult for them to match. However, it may also be difficult for NE to put something together unless they create more space - the way to steal him would probably be by front-loading the deal and taking advantage of NO's cap space situation having already paid Brees.

Personally, I really like the guy's athleticism and work ethic. Bringing in someone with his all-around skill set and "I'll play anywhere to help the team win" motivation would be great for the team as far as getting over the Brady-Left-Us-Blues and reset the culture back to the do-your-job, whatever-it-takes mentality.

The question is, of course, cost as well, and whether the team really intends to give Stidham his shot. IMO, even if they bring in Hill, they should still let the QBs compete and whoever wins the job will have earned it.

Truthfully, I am interested to see what McDaniels would do with him since McDaniels drafted Tebow and I've always wondered how that would have looked...

What are your thoughts? Yes, no, maybe? Not for a first? Discuss!

No. Way to risky to give up a 1st for him.

Sanu has been a more productive NFL passer than Hill.

Any GM who even considers making this move needs to be fired on the spot. This is not a quarterback.

Would be our best TE though.

I think Sean Payton is praying someone gives him a first rounder.

Absolutely not.

You could theoretically offer him $10m a year thinking he may end up at another position if QB doesn't work and that $10m is still not crazy money. But in that scenario the loss of a first kills.

I don't know if my personal number would be $10m but I agree with the general sentiment. As you mention, the real issue is the #1 pick. At the end of the day, he's an excellent gadget player made for our offense as a skill player, but the Saints made sure he wouldn't go anywhere with the prohibitively high tender, and he will be 30 when the season begins.

Yeah I was just throwing a number out there. Age is a factor too of course, but not a lot of wear on him necessarily, either.

I miss Tom.

Chris

I'd consider offering a pick in 2021 after he signed his tender.

I'd rather snort a key of Corona than give up a 1st and actually watch him try to play QB.

Hell no, I'd rather give Edelman a shot at QB than give up a first for him.
