[Old 2020 thread] NFL Free Agency/Trade Rumors:

It seems that Brady has the same 3 choices as always: TB, LAC, and IND.

The Colts have essentially decided on Rivers not sure why you'd think they are a choice still.

So lets recap...

The Pats have @$3 million in cap space, they have no QB, Edleman, Sanu, and Harry (until he gets IRed in TC) for WR, Matt Lacosse I believe is the only TE on the roster. Hightower, Bentley are your only LBs, some decent depth at DT, S, and CB, but only Winovich as a DE.

hmmm, this doesn't look good, no wonder Brady bolted!

and they have signed exactly zero Free Agents
Where the hell are we spending the money again?

Anyone think Brady stays if the Patriots had traded for Diggs or Hopkins? Really stings that Hopkins was affordable in 2020 and only cost a second round pick and a bad running back. He's the type of player that could have made such an enormous difference.

I have no idea how any of this is relevant to what I wrote.

Newton being even more eccentric than usual with that font choice but more so with a confrontational style where he calls out the Panthers on their ******** might decrease the amount of compensation another team needs to throw at the Panthers to get a trade done. That is all I am saying.

How this is connected to Brady in any shape or form I have no idea.
You said it was a smart business decision on his part to go on a public tirade saying he doesn’t want to be traded, that he’s being forced out. I’m saying it isn’t, and I’m pointing out how Brady is handling a very similar situation and is still getting paid. Yeah, Brady is a free agent so there’s a difference in circumstances. But do you really think Newton helped his cause with that twitter response? His future employer might consider him a loose cannon and shy away from trading for him.

Where the hell are we spending the money again?

Spending it on Joe Thuney, whose excellent blocking last year didn't help the running game or passing one iota...and Devin McCourty, who is a great player but will likely retire in two years, about the minimum time it will take to build a real contender.

But the Texans probably wouldn't have accepted the same package from us (which we couldn't have even offered because we flushed our #2 down the toilet and we have no RB who peaked as high as Johnson). The what if game is worth discussing but I think it's disingenuous to say we definitely could have had Hopkins for cheap.

Hopkins is a no brainer for the #23 pick. Just sayin'.

But are you then willing to pay him $20 million per year like he’ll probably get from the Cardinals now?

He has no leverage. He has three years left on his contract. Bill was able to put up with Gronk's undervalue contract for many years, and with the new CBA, holdouts won't happen. Sprinkle in a few incentives.

I get so hacked off seeing all these good players moving between teams and not a sniff from us.......I guess a penalty for being successful and no cap space.....arghhhh:mad:

Think I've heard rumors of his decline recently, but if that's not true, he'd be a good Chung replacement and provides a lot of what DMc does.
I did not observe decline of Jenkins last season. IMO he was very sharp and decisive, one of the best amongst Eagles defensive players. Personally one of my favourite players to watch.

Wouldn’t happen. He would sit out. Too much drama.

I don't know how I feel about Taysom Hill. Part of me thinks it's stupid. Part of me kinda loves it.

Not like they have the money to do so, but would you if they did?

Teams are paying $17-20M for receivers like Sammy Watkins, Brandin Cooks, and Amari Cooper. Isn't it worth just giving him a marginal raise? He's as elite as it gets.

I hear ya. It stinks never getting to call ourselves off-season champions....arghhhh:mad:
