This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

Here's a very chilling report from Australia's 60 Minutes on the Corona virus - what it is, where it originated (illegal wildlife trade), and the gruesome impact it can have on your area if it gets a firm toe hold. If it overwhelms a community, ICU can be the only hope, and there are only so many ICU beds. People 60 and over are at significantly higher risk to the virus.

This is the type of info Trump should have been briefed on weeks ago - or maybe they tried, but he just pissed it all away:

I’ve started streaming BBC World radio. There are tons and tons of options to stream, and many of them are fairly balanced, and that’s because they aren’t paid propaganda shows and they see the US as just part of the news and not the center of the universe. I also get much less anxiety this way.

I actually get the bulk of my world (and much of my 'big picture' U.S.) news from the BBC.
I can't help but feel we'd all benefit if more people searched out sources that report news rather than create or (ahem) shape it.

Sorry, that tends to be one of my pulpit topics.

Really? We hadn't noticed
Not that there's anything wrong with that, in fact there's quite a bit 'right' about it. Personally my idea of moderation is having more salad with my steak than I used to. That said, I have consumed less fast food than most anyone I know personally. In fact I think 'fast food' is somewhat of an oxymoron and simply don't care for it. I'm kind of a foodie. Not in a gastronome sense but more in that good food well prepared is a passion of mine. I enjoy making a meal every bit as much as I do eating it.

Panic, no. Make changes, yes. Listen to what people in Italy are saying...everything seemed like not a huge deal until it hit critical mass...and all the charts have it hitting critical mass here within a week or two at most. When it does hit critical mass, people will panic if they haven’t been paying attention.

Should I panic?

or should I join the service?

think about my future

It's easy to lapse into complacency when it's something you can't see and life pretty much is business as usual. Apparently when folks you know start getting sick is when it finally hits home.

What an idiotic post. But that's no surprise coming from the schmo who predicted this crisis would equate to the Y2K scare. You can never, ever, EVER prevent something like this happening by "tightening borders" or cracking down on them "damn foreigners." Pointing fingers and scapegoating source of origin is a game for braindead fools. As world population increases this sort of thing will occur with greater frequency. The only sane approach is to be PREPARED for swift and efficient containment when it happens, unlike under Orange Clown's administration. Competent government leadership is of life-and-death importance now more than ever, hopefully we get it soon.

Nice foreshadowing.

OK ace, explain what's "idiotic" about MY post. Be specific.

There's no convincing someone who doesn't believe in border control, even amid a worldwide pandemic.

The only way you may ever learn is the hard way.

That’s what happens with exponential growth.
It seems like nothing is happening and then of a sudden HOLY CRAP.

Oh, I certainly believe in border control -- for things that can be controlled by it. But if you think border control will stop potentially fatal viruses from entering the country, you've got another guess coming. If that's all you've got you're nothing but a time waster.

Yes. If you limited border crossing enough to have significant impact on pandemics, you dramatically hit everyone's economy all at once.

This would've been better if you had worked in the cat somehow.
