I’m not hurling political insults like robertweathers or IC nor am I suggesting such is done. But political discussion is inevitable unless we want to ban discussion the subject that everyone literally everyone has interest in discussing.
Yes ... but some cannot engage in the process without hurling insults
...and I say screw them who are and bye bye - we are adults here and it's not high school.

Deus is/was right ...
There were a few in the thread more inclined to hurl political insults than
have an adult discussion on the topic. But it has been dealt with leaving the
thread free for those who wish to seriously discuss the topic.

Thank you.

And, on that note, let me end my posting for the night with these words of wisdom from Shaun:

I agree and am not opposed to banning people repeatedly calling each other snowflakes and trump tards. I just want the discussion to stay open is all given it is the topic at the forefront of...the world.

I think you can discuss the government's response or bills passed by Congress that are relevant to the topic of the thread. I think things start getting out of hand when people start posting propaganda or digs at candidates
and then others react. Its easy to get caught up reacting to some nonsense (I'm guilty of this).

This is an important topic, and I learned a few things that I wasn't aware of.

My take on the topic is the media is over blowing the topic causing panic in the streets.
Many of them are politicizing the topic which does not help at all. Government by it's very nature is never up to the task when there is a crisis regardless of party.

There are too many layers between the top and the foot soldiers creating the solutions. It would be refreshing if more of the media stuck to the old fashioned reporting the news and getting the facts out that people need to know without colorizing it for political advantage. When the media does a better job it forces the politicians to thus become more honest and try harder.

I don't think it crosses the line to the point of deletion and banning until it devolves into childishness where you are posting "trump tard, snowflake, idiot" over and over. I do think it's silly when Deus can basically imply that all the non-conservative Trump supporters are ignorant, stupid humans who don't know the facts and then back away pretending he is above getting involved in the political aspect of the thread.

I thought we were past this ...
If not let's try harder to be past it .......

Of course the media is blowing it out of proportion. They feed off the hysteria, it increases ratings. The higher the hysteria the better the story which is very counter productive. The actions to suspend or cancel highly populated events is prudent and the measures being taken are smart.

I also think it is relevant to acknowledge that our administration has botched the response to an extent by not taking it seriously enough at the outset. We are behind the curve because of it. Not necessarily too late to mitigate the impact a bit but worthy of substantial criticism.

The history of world pandemics and our government's reactions to them is rather poor. Also people in poor areas of the world living in close proximity to animals will continue to be an issue. Nature throughout history has always made things survival of the fittest. I think many have forgotten to try harder to become part of that fittest group. I exclude the elderly there for obvious reasons.

It's not the close proximity, but the consumption of certain meats from these wet markets. Can't tell another country what to regulate but several of these viruses stem from that issue. Covid-19, SARS, Ebola...all of it originates from that.

As long as we have people feasting on bush meat, kitty kat stew and wombat soup this will keep happening.

Idk, I think people panic easily in general when faced with unknowns. I live in FL and it never fails, every time there's a hurricane warning people go crazy and buy up everything in sight. It's pathetic.

You may be right about the media, but honestly, have you been hearing what's been coming out of the WH? One week its minimized as a flu type event that will end quickly and the next its a national emergency. Plus, it's not like Trump hasn't gone after the media's throat over and over again, so they don't owe him any favors.

The bat soup and road kill pictures as meals a re revolting.
Yet some do it as a way to survive so there are no clear cut solutions there.

Trump almost never seems truly prepared to have a presser.
Also he should let the experts talk more and he of course talk less.
Not a Trump hater but duh ... you're not a doctor dude ... let them speak apolitically.

Yeah, there isn't. Which means we have to be prepared, listen to the scientists and doctors who tell us this is serious we need to take precautions and not downplay and decry everything as an overreaction, fake news or a conspiracy with political aims.

Interested in your source that Covid-19 originates from animal consumption.

Seeing as the original people who contracted the virus were people involved in the wet markets in China you can connect the dots. You may be right I don't know necessarily about consumption but there is a strong connection to it.

That didn't take long. I hope memes are ok.

NATIONAL. EMERGENCY. "Big words..."
I mean it was the right thing to do. The ANA, AMA, AHA all wanted this.

A bit surprised what he rolled out. It was almost like he was on The Apprentice and the CEOs were the contestants. The business task: who can kiss the President's azz best on national TV. It was surreal.

The toilet paper is one thing, I still don't know the point of that. But that's beside the point.

The people changing the topic to this being media-driven and using that to downplay this is irritating. Media or no media - and Trump or no Trump - regardless of people's political views, it doesn't change the fact it's an issue that needs to be dealt with and is a bigger deal than some are treating it.

The media has to report it. If they don't, they're not taking it seriously enough. If they report on it constantly, it's overblown. This thing has been so fluid that we're hearing about it constantly...it is what it is. It's essentially a waste of everyone's time focusing on how much is enough when at the end of the day, we all own a remote and can easily turn it off. This isn't Brady's free agency status, this is something we do need to pay attention to.

I understand the younger people aren't concerned (I can't believe at 44 I'm even saying that), I get it. But let's say you do contract it, you don't realize you have it yet, and let's say you're out "living your life because it's not a big deal" when it's eventually 'requested' we all stay home. You interact with some 68-year old person in line at the grocery store (someone's grandmother, someone's great grandparent) you smile, say "hi" and because you're a nice guy, you even let them go before you. But because of that interaction, they end up coming down with it and they pass away.

I understand being smart. I understand the idea of not being panicked. But forget the media. Forget the president. At the end of the day, all of us need to be responsible and think about people other than ourselves. If it ultimately means a couple of weeks at home to try and let the sick people all get tested and treated and hopefully stop this thing so it's gone and doesn't come back, that's the goal we should all be focused on.
Perfect

This is the right attitude and the only one
