Coronavirus RESPECTFUL Discussion Only! (Mod edit: Closed)

I don't want to jump into the politics here. As I said, this thread has mostly served to demonstrate people's political ignorance and stupidity, and I'm not saying that's on any one side or any one political area of the spectrum. But, I will say this, because it's obvious that it's not being followed enough, and it's obvious that this is something that Ian doesn't want getting out of control:

Get your facts and context straight, and leave the idiotic biases out of the conversation as much as possible. That might help keep things on a level that won't piss Ian off to the point of him shutting down the discussion.

Now, back to whatever the hell y'all are babbling on about at the current stage of the thread.

Shelves are clear here of any and all meats. Delis still have some. Not much for vegetables or anything not frozen.

We are currently in an apartment as we are in our option period on a house, and 2 different families I have never said more than hello to stopped and talked to me. People are scared and to be honest I am a bit worried myself. I just hope if things go south, the violence and such are at a minimum.

With anyone else, the NSA/White House Pandemic Response Team would have still been in place, including field offices in countries that included China. True or false?

With anyone remotely competent, we'd have begun importing testing kits the moment we learned.

The doctors in Seattle who identified the first US patient with a test of their own making, then told CDC and were told to stand down certainly knew we were in trouble.

So yes, I reject your hypothesis, and it's not my hatred for Trump (which I haven't denied for more than 30 years - he's a monster and always has been), but the clear-cut mistakes, then the lies about the mistakes, along with the ridiculous poo-pooing of what the people around him knew was a growing disaster.

but you keep on psychoanalyzing me if your need to bothsider whatabout is pressing, okay?
30 years of admitted hate. Forgive me if I can't see any objectivity coming from you.

Just a warning - this thread is heading in a bad direction. I don't really know how to deal with it at this point but I will say that I don't have a bias and just look at facts. I don't like Trump, but I'm willing to look at both sides in this and I've never really picked a party. I just disagree with what's happening if I don't like it. It doesn't make me better than anyone else, but it does allow me to respect each side and not argue for the sake of being right.

I have one goal in this whole mess. Contain this thing so we can move on with our lives. I've heard the finger-pointing and I've listened to enough people argue about that stuff over the past few weeks. It still doesn't change the fact that we need to do whatever necessary to eliminate this thing. The rest, I'm sure will be argued later. Hopefully, things work themselves out and all of it will be meaningless if as many people as possible avoid the worst.

But seeing people go at each other is a reminder of why I've restricted politics since the political forum was closed. It's just a bad/bad scene.

I'm assuming my cranky attitude stems from the fact I've had 2 days off in the last three weeks. I'm going to bed - hopefully I'll feel better in the morning.
Hi Ian. I know this thread is going to be kind of toxic or toxic already but I feel that we are experiencing a major historical moment and that we can’t not discuss the subject even though politics is inevitably injected. Maybe let it run its course as much as possible? It’s going to be messy but might as well let it all be in this thread.

If you are going to keep saying people are being stupid, ignorant and lacking facts then spit it out so we can hear your wisdom. The thread has already gone in that direction and neither Ian nor any mods have yet decided to stop the discussion.

For Trump? Pfft. I knew who he was when he was apolitical. I knew who he was when he was a Democrat. I knew who he was when he was a Green.

Look at his record of sleaze and understand that my disgust with this clown is well-earned.

Having said that, maybe you'll get around to disproving anything I said, or answering the rather simple checklist you were just handed.

Read Ian's posts. Extrapolation from there shouldn't be difficult.

As for me posting politics in the thread, there is neither need nor reason. I post on politics elsewhere, and this is not a thread that cries out for more political takes.

Then if you refuse to get into it, stop saying how we (by which you mean non-conservatives) are politically ignorant and post your memes only

Deeming the virus situation a national emergency was the correct thing to do. It frees up money and reduces red tape.

The situation with the test kits however, is baffling. The Fauci guy has been saying for weeks there aren't enough test kits. The entire dog and pony show seemed rushed, unprepared. What do they think is going to happen when Monday comes and people are still not being tested. Then Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.

I just wish they were honest with the american public. There's been so much misinformation and confusion coming out of the WH that you can't blame people for panicking. The media is just reporting what is happening. Trump's constant lies have finally caught up with him. He's cried wolf too many times and now nobody believes him. This is going to get worse once people start invading hospitals by the thousands.

Then if you refuse to get into it, stop saying how we (by which you mean non-conservatives) are politically ignorant and post your memes only

No.

And read full posts. I was specific in noting

and I'm not saying that's on any one side or any one political area of the spectrum.

Note: I did add the missing "a" to the word following political ("area", not "are").

Deus is/was right ...
There were a few in the thread more inclined to hurl political insults than
have an adult discussion on the topic. But it has been dealt with leaving the
thread free for those who wish to seriously discuss the topic.

I’m not hurling political insults like robertweathers or IC nor am I suggesting such is done. But political discussion is inevitable.
