Kraft on If Brady will be back next year: "You gotta ask him. I sure hope so.

Well at least handy Bob is working hard at rehabbing his image after pissing away our chance at #7 this year. "Hey, not my problem, Tommy's problem."

hes 43. at some point you have to take care of the future of the team.

Many people believe the Patriots lack of draft success since 2016 is catching up with them and they won’t realistically be contenders for a few years anyway. If they’re going to be lowering their expectations to 10-6 and hopefully a wildcard win, with a long shot Super Bowl possibility, wouldn’t you rather just have Brady finish his career as a Patriot, considering they’ve already made the decision to stick with him over JG? Assuming there is not a better QB solution for the next few years of course. You didn’t really answer Tony’s question for an alternative QB right now. Unless you’re drafting someone or going with Stidham, it’s not like you’re going to get a starter for cheap money. Brady has already said he would be glad to be a “bridge” quarterback and mentor a younger player, and he’s given his expiration date, too.

Sure but taking care of the future of the team is salary cap management but with that in mind you go into the season trying to win it all.

Unless you're one of those teams that sacrifices its future by going into a " win now" mode.

Anyway Brady is still the best QB to win now with.

I doubt it's that much but I'd expect it would have to be at least a two year deal.

And even if it was thirty who else is going to give you that kind of return on investment?

Andy Dalton at fifteen is fifteen (plus 13 million) wasted cap dollars.

Or do you think Stidham is the answer?
forget about filling any of the holes on the team if he gets 2 years and 30. and he better show up for OTAs. i would rather roll with stid and draft a qb. or sign another qb in his twenties for 30 mill per.

i don't think he is anymore. his play will get worse. And his injuries will increase. I don't care what he eats. Things change dramatically when you approach your mid forties.

I see it differently. You can sign Brady and still fill the holes. This season was riddled with injuries. Give Brady Andrew's and Devlin and they're playing in the AFCCG.

I like Stidham but have no idea if the 23 million saved by moving on from Brady is enough to build a team strong enough to make the playoffs with Stidham. I highly doubt it.

Personally, I'd ride Brady until it's clear that he's done. And I don't think anyone can honestly say that now.

This maybe an unpopular opinion but there is no sense in bringing Brady back just to have another 2019 season. If Tom does come back, the Pats will have to promise him that we are making moves to reload this offense. If we can’t overhaul the offense with a big trade or free agent signing I believe it’s best to let TB go and begin the search for the next franchise QB. I love TB but moving on would make the most sense for both parties.

If history has taught us anything, it's to write off TB12 when he's down.

Well I will admit that the "tennis elbow" concerns me because as a 53 year old I know how the body breaks down with age. But I want conclusive evidence from Brady's play before I move on but as of right now I don't have it. I still think Brady is the best option.

I’m calling it Tom is not back
It’s still up in the air for me, but if the Pats are twiddling their thumbs to start FA, he’s gone.

I don't agree with it but I wouldn't call it an unpopular opinion. From what I'm hearing it's probably a 50/50 position right now.

Is the alternative here to build around Stidham and give him experience? Because bringing back Brady and searching for the next franchise QB are not mutually exclusive. Is the implication that with a worse record comes better draft position?

I think people would be super bummed if Brady sets/extends a bunch of new all-time records on another NFL team and aren't appreciating the rarity of this opportunity. And I've just yet to see a better alternative if the goal is to win now. Which questionable quarterback (example, Rivers, Dalton, Tannehill, Mariota) isn't going to get paid over $20M? I'm sure the team will be shooting for a new long-term answer regardless of what happens with Brady.

The bigger concern I have is why the Patriots make the most sense to Brady, given that he isn't doing them any favors since they wouldn't extend him last summer.

I said when the season ended both parties need to part ways. The current offense isn’t built for Brady as he requires clairvoyants at WR/TE. And I’ve said many times, the young WR’s don’t want to play with an old Tom Brady either.

Regarding him coming back, it would be asinine for any player to sign without moves made upfront as the team now has no obligation to do so.

We’ll know he’s coming back if there’s a big splash made early in FA.

when you get in your 40s the non contact injuries increase. Things just start to break down.

Does anyone else suspect that Brady and Brees, while saying they don’t care about these records, actually do, and this is partly a competition between them for who can outlast the other? I remember Brady’s email re: Manning and the final chapter of the rivalry, which turned out to be the tipping point.

i hope you are right. its time to move on from the soon to be 43 year old.

keep that sane energy when we spend a decade looking for a QB, better hope the plan for the next one isn’t to surround him with mediocre talent

then went 12 and 4 and won the division. after going to the sb three years in a row. poor poor tommy.

"You gotta ask him. I sure hope so."

Then pay him, Bob, and get (and keep) actual NFL players in the WR/TE groups, instead of trading them away and cutting them.

There are actually people who've been foolish enough to disagree with the above.
