Might as well do a free agents thread next. It may make for happier times.

I wrote about that in the draft thread. Doing free agents is more difficult, as we're dealing with 90 man rosters that get churned over with a bunch of additions and subtractions. I can't find sites that keep a complete year-by-year tally, and I'm not particularly looking forward to having to hunt them all down myself. I could pull all the NFL transaction pages for each year, but that will get into a lot of "John, from some college" as a UDFA guy, and I'd have to hunt for the free agents from other teams, as well as determining where the cup of coffee guys would fit in.

So, if the other two threads seem to be lively, and thoughtful, enough, I might effort the 3rd thread. But I'm going to wait on that for now.

What I will do for now, though, since you mentioned this, is to give a few links to some incomplete FA lists.

Watching hollister become a half way decent te make me regret trading him away

I wouldn't sweat the loss of Jake the Fake Part Deaux; there should've been enough good TE prospects/players already in the building by then.

Regarding the 2016 moves: AJ Derby was actually traded Away, not traded For...

...and the trading of a 2017 5th-rounder straight-up for Bark Mingo was simply Terrible. That useless feckin stiff was about to be just plain Released before Billy came a-calling...I still can't believe that there wasn't a pick swap or at the very least conditional snaps involved, similar to the Eric Rowe trade.

I'm not even going to discuss the 2017 moves...it makes me too sad...

Comments:

a.) Wow, didn't realize that MANY trades were made.

b.) I give the last 5 years an A+ just because of netting slightly more than a six pack of beer for Jordan Richards....that was a STEAL!

3.) A few days ago, I looked at all 2020 season 4th year players (or 5 year first round picks that didn't have their option picked up) drafted in 2017. I think the Pats will be looking to trade for one of these guys as they are still on the final year of their rookie deal and could take a "leap forward":

O.J. Howard
Evan Engram
David Njoku
Gerald Everett
Corey Davis
John Ross
Curtis Samuel
Kenny Golladay
Dede Westbrook
Ryan Switzer

2019 New England Patriots Trades | Pro-Football-Reference.com

Jacoby Brissett (two years starting QB), Jimmy Garoppolo (two years starting QB, 20-5 record), Chandler Jones (perennial pro bowl, DPOY this year), all combined traded for two second round picks and Philip Dorsett.

I have no problem with the Brissett trade. I have no problem with the Jones trade. But BB just casually tossing JAG to the 49ers, rather than working the lines in order to get full value, was a terrible lapse of judgement by BB.

Yep. No one will convince me that Bill maximized the return we got for Jimmy.

Maybe Bill has a heart after all and liked the kid, therefore wanted him to go somewhere that would be good for him vs. off to the 3 year Patriots penalty box known as the Browns

Think about what you’re saying, CS.

This is a business not a charity.

I'm not going to update this, but it seems appropriate to bump it tonight.
