“Belichick did something he never does, which is he wasn’t cold, he wasn’t calculated,” Wright said. “He let, I think, old enemies get the best of him as far as not wanting to trade with Cleveland, who would have given them the 12th pick of the (2017) draft. And he wanted to do what was best reportedly for Jimmy Garoppolo, sending him to a place with Kyle Shanahan, somebody respected, where he could succeed the most. Because of that, they got 30 cents on the dollar for the asset. They got the 42nd pick when they could’ve had the 12th pick of the draft, which turned into Deshaun Watson, which could have been the most seamless transition plan ever imaginable. So, I don’t think the Patriots regret it because they’ve been to the Super Bowl twice since then. They were not going to be able to keep him at the contract he wanted. I think the manner in which he was traded, I think was a rare misstep by Bill Belichick and I think he does regret that.”

Please tell me this isn’t true. Did B.B. really turn down the 12th pick?

Where is the evidence that he was ever offered the 12th pick?

There is no evidence that such an offer was ever on the table.

NFL Rumors: 49ers Were Ready To Offer Patriots More For Jimmy Garoppolo
“Then the 49ers got what every successful team needs: luck, in two ways. The first instance occurred just before the trading deadline in 2017, when Belichick texted Shanahan, a coach whom he respected enormously, and offered Jimmy Garoppolo straight up for a second-round pick. The 49ers were stunned — Belichick had told staff in the Patriots building and any team that had inquired that the quarterback would not be traded — and were prepared to counter with a larger package, in case Belichick happened to be posturing. He wasn’t.”

Nick Wrong is obsessed with the Patriots. Hope 9ers clobber his beloved Chefs.

I’m not going to discuss one of the shock jock sock puppets but there are plenty of conspiracy theories around the Jimmy G trade. Mary Kay Cabot reported the Browns would’ve definitely given up at least a first round pick for him so take that for what it’s worth. The conspiracy theory comes into play when people believe Bill traded him to SF in what he deemed to be a better situation with a better coach in hopes Jimmy would perform well and confirm Bill’s evaluation of the QB. Basically some people believe Bill was forced into the trade so he acted in the best interest of making Bill look good instead of the best interest of the team.

People that post, retweet, pass his message along are as much of a problem as he is. None of these guys are interesting, provide any real insight or add anything besides this nonsense. They all sit around and come up with **** they know will piss people off. And laugh when you fall for it ... Every. Single. Time.

Why is it so hard to ignore them?

I have only been saying this for the past three years and gotten shut down every time. The Patriots traded him for pennies on the dollar for no apparent reason. That draft capital that they left on the table is really biting them in the ass now. Easily could have gotten a conditional first round pick from the 49ers. Because if the 49ers were to extend him, that means they would be paying him big-time money. Since when is a $30 million player worth a second round pick?

Pats were not in a position to negotiate too much IMO. Jimmy was a free agent next yr or so and most teams know pats will have to make a decision soon. So unless teams were really sold and desperate for jimmy ,i dont know if they couldve held the upper hand here in the discussions.

Nick Wright is a clown

Why are we so quick to dismiss this as being out of the realm of possibility?

Because we don't want it to be true?

I mean, look, I have no insight over what was offered but I do know that me and many others felt the compensation was too low for Jimmy G at the time (not just now with revisionist history).

Heck, we traded away a franchise quarterback for the same price we got Sanu. Also consider that we gave up more for a one year rental of Brandon Cooks.

Of course you can only trade for what someone is willing to offer ,but I think it's very believable that more could have been had in the Jimmy G. trade.

It's clear BB liked the player and sent him to the place best for the player.

JG has a very small Patriot track record- 6 quarters of meaningful football in 2016. Then he got hurt. IMO he didn’t really show in that 6 quarters that he was a franchise Qb to be.

Chances some team was going to offer a first round pick for that track record was close to nil. And the Patriots had to unload either JG or Tom. That’s why I don’t believe there was ever such an offer made.

That's fine...but can you imagine the likely trade down draft capital they could have accumulated by getting a conditional first round pick instead of a second round pick? This team is in desperate need of young impact players and had a scenario where they could have made it happen. In addition they could have actually come out ahead for the "Deflategate" punishment by showing off and then flipping Jimmy G. for a top-15 pick.
