Tanguay: Brady “embarrassed” by his compensation, is leaving

My friend Who is a big sports gambler is telling me Brady to Vegas with Gruden is what he’s betting on.
A great place to build his TB12 empire

It makes some sense. New city, new stadium. $60m under the cap. New start for Brady, after playing in the same place for 20 years. He’d make them a lot of money and be appreciated. No Belichick to compare him to the Foxboro High QB. Not sure about the weapons on offense though.

The idea of a TB12 empire makes me chuckle a bit. I am sorry but I don’t see it. And if that is his reason for playing now, I think it will end very badly.

This is BEYOND stupid. REALLY Chris????? You are telling me that you'd rather trade THREE Superbowl appearances (with 2 wins), for 3 questionable years with Jimmy????? That's absurd and truly a classic 20-20 hindsight exemplar.

Keeping JG and dumping TB in 2016 was NEVER an option and to opine that this is what BB wanted or thought was best for his team just plays into the rampant hawt takes that seem to be ruining this board.

As to Tanguay's comments, you and I BOTH have better sources inside the Pats organization than Gary Tanguay. He's an idiot, though I'm glad his cancer thing is working out OK so far.

Just want to point out that Jimmy was traded in 2017, so it's two appearances and one win.

The funny thing about this (and reason I'm pointing it out) is that I've also made this same mistake on here, and I've seen other people on here make it too! Not sure why we all misremember it like this. Maybe this is the latest instance of "The Mandela Effect".

BB made Jimmy G an offer to hang on to him for a couple more years, probably to this point in time and he refused, cant blame him. I wouldn't trade the last two super bowls with TB if they had to dump TB to keep JG.

AB said he will only play with Brady...I think the Raiders should go out and sign him. AB in Vegas is just an added bonus.

Jimmy G is just **** timing. In an ideal world, we drafted him two years later which would make this off-season much easier but we didn't. As much as I'd love to have him here, I wouldn't trade the last two seasons for that. We were 9 points away from winning 4 of the last 5 SBs.

It’s possible that both player and team want to see what the market says before proceeding, but that probably doesn’t bode well for his return since it’s likely that someone else will overpay.

I don’t think we see another Welker situation where he leaves for 2/12 instead of 2/10, but I’m guessing that another team will offer a multi year deal and more guaranteed money, so allowing Brady to “test” free agency may just be the amicable way of resolving this situation, and it’s quite possible that both sides have realized this for awhile.

I don’t know that anyone can sign AB.

the problem with him testing free agency is that it adds an extra 6M onto the Pats already tight cap for 2020. If he’s not extended by the end of the league year, his full 13M dead money charge hits next years cap. That will make it virtually impossible to re-sign Brady and also restock the team with veterans. It will be tight as it is with just a 6.5M dead money charge if he’s extended

If he hits free agency, it’s almost certain he won’t return. There’s just no good financial argument for the Pats and Brady to reach a deal after free agency starts. It significantly reduces the chances of the team being competitive next year. $6m is a lot when you have an already tight cap and tons of key players to sign

I thought that we were pretty sure that he’ll take part in the legal tampering period prior to the end of the league year, thus testing the market and (hopefully) coming back to the team with his true market value.

They’re going to have to pay a dead cap hit once he’s gone no matter what. The hope is that it can be structured to include 3.25m this year + another 3.25m next year when he’s almost certainly gone. The cap will continue to increase and there is supposed to be some new money from TV deals coming up soon which could help to create more of a cushion for this situation (or so I read).

And if NE hadn’t extended Brady back in 2016 or whenever there was the option to play Brady in 2017 and then move to JG in 2018, in which case it would have been one appearance and one win.

And the one they lost wasn't because of the offense. Brady threw for over 500 yards. The offense put up over 600 yards.

They lost that year. o_O

I think if he tests the market he’s as good as gone. We’d be on the hook for $13.5 mill at that point so anything we signed him to would be on top of that. That and in all likelihood some team pays him significantly more than we are willing to.

IF any of these reports about Brady planning to go elsewhere are true (and that is a very, very big IF), then their only source could be Brady or someone quite close to him; if the reports are true, they would have to come from someone who would only speak with Brady's OK, given how closed TB12's inner circle is.

So, IF there were any truth to these reports, then I'd be surprised that Tom Brady, who has presented himself as the epitome of professionalism during his 20 years in New England, had now morphed into a Drama Queen towards the end of his career. To the extent that anyone I don't know personally can "disappoint" me, I would be disappointed as well.

Tom Brady, as he has presented himself all these years, would only be dealing directly with the Krafts and Belichick before allowing anything to get out to the media or media hangers-on.

If these reports mean that Brady has already spoken with the Krafts and Belichick and that the result is an impasse, then, so be it. I just don't think that Tom Brady is doing himself any favors by feeding the media beast behind the scenes.

If Tom Brady has decided that he has to go elsewhere, then he should just come out and say so.

Tom Brady doesn't owe anyone, from Robert Kraft on down to the newest Patriots Fan, anything. He has certainly far outperformed any reasonable expectations that we as fans could have had of him in a hundred lifetimes. But, this isn't the way to go out, IF these reports are true.

Or, after all the Leonard hype this past off-season and the Media mania surrounding it. The NFL asked Kraft to create drama around Brady resigning to give a great story to keep the NFL popular in the off-season. It's a lot better than framegate garbage.

Two SBs with Tom is an undeniable fact. At least one SB with Jimmy is just a theory which might never happen. So Tom - thank you very much for IT.
