How does doing one game a week for CBS afford him more time to play golf than doing 1 game a week on ESPN?
While the offseason work schedule for ESPN’s MNF team isn’t that heavy, most of the network’s personalities are typically expected to take on additional responsibilities. Gruden, for example, hosted his annual “QB Camp” series on SportsCenter prior to the NFL Draft.3 Reasons Tony Romo Should Stay At CBS And Reject ESPN
ESPN is also a 24-hour sports network with 24-hour national radio affiliate. There are a lot of guest spots to fill.

At CBS, Romo calls one game per week, and then disappears for the offseason — after calling either the Super Bowl or AFC Championship. It is hard to find a sweeter gig than that.3 Reasons Tony Romo Should Stay At CBS And Reject ESPN

eh, I have a feeling that if ESPN wants Romo as bad as this article claims, they won't care if he does that extracurricular stuff or not.

Nobody's going to top Madden or Cosell.

Did Madden work multiple networks at same time? Seemed like he called A Fox Sunday game as well as every ABC Monday which seemed impossible aince he didn’t fly. He certainly had a Cowboy drewel fest back in the 90s.

I don't think Madden was ever on MNF. He went from CBS to Fox when CBS lost the NFC to Fox. Not entirely sure how long he was there, but he eventually transitioned to SNF, and then retirement.

I couldn't find that anywhere (quick search) but there were tons of these articles from last Spring/Summer so it sounds like there was a major negotiation going on.

If all that resulted in him at $4M again for this season, then he's probably out the door at CBS. They would have had to really hardball him. That wouldn't leave a good taste in the mouth.
This article says $3m.

Either way he's gonna make a killing on his next deal

Romo should not even seriously be considering this, for reasons already stated.

That said, from CBS’ side, unless CBS thinks he is bad (which seems impossible to believe) the idea of paying him $10-$14m is a drop in the bucket for what they pay for broadcast rights so while it might be a lot to us or compared to other broadcasters. The networks pay like $40 billion they are going to want to retain someone as popular as Romo. Fouts probably makes millions too.

Romo should leave himself an out for the SNF gig, that is debatably the only more high profile job than what he’s got now, would still get a SB rotation, although not the CG I guess. I know some don’t like his style but he has grown on me and has, in just 3 seasons, already positioned himself to be the TV voice of the next generation of the league. Monday nights would be a waste of his time.

I liked Romo when he started doing analysis, but I think he's read too many positive reviews of himself. Now he's got an overinflated sense of self worth and he can't shut up enough.

They should keep Booger and try to enter the realm of he's so bad he's good. Feed him some cheezy one liners while he sleeps without his knowledge and unleash his wisdom to the world. Not like it matters anyway no one will turn it off because he's there.

As amazing as he is, how much does he actually effect the ratings? I’d think he’d matter more to CBS because ESPN doesn’t get to pick the best game to send their top crew to.

Booger is the worst I’ve ever seen.

If Romo is there I might actually watch MNF even when the Pats aren't playing.

Romo is the best in the business. Maybe ever.
How old are you?

"Maybe ever."

Seriously?

Romo has now gone beyond Over-rated, and into Caricature territory. The man can no longer speak in complete sentences, or offer cogent analysis.

It's all now "Ehhh...I don't know...He might do this...or could do that...these Patriots, QB 101 stuff...now you're seeing it..."

Gibberish; almost All of it.

p.s.: Hank Stram eats Romo for lunch in the booth.

I hate to go against the grain guys but I find that Romo is highly overrated and suffers from diarrhea of the mouth much of the time. He also has this annoying tendency (really displayed in the playoff games) to try and announce as if the game is still within reach with one team up 38-12 with around 2 minutes left, "now, Jim they need a lot of things to go right here to have a chance..."

Romo is the best to ever do it, but does he swing ratings that drastically for the premier CBS game?

I’d have thought ESPN would be more desperate to have him.
