...at least Joe Cool picked Tom in his Top 3 GOATS. So nice of him.
Still in denial over who the real GOAT is, huh?

But why John Elway???
I think so.Still in denial over who the real GOAT is, huh?
Elway dragged those 80s Broncos teams to 3 Super Bowls kicking and screaming.
That counts a lot in my book. You think Peyton would have done that?

Yes
What was in the AFC to stop him?

Speaking of Peyton, would this be a banner achievement in LucasOil Stadium?
I'm a huge Favre fan but could see Brees over him & Elway. Elway stats were as blah as it gets. Has a career 56% comp, 1 4000 season & early on, actually his first 10 years his TD/INT ratio was not good to say the least.
Very good QB but top 10 all-time?
Definitely not my opinion but he probably shouldn't be on the list. I'd take him > Elway but neither really belong if I'm being honest. Brees has a great case over both imo.I thought the universal opinion was that Favre spent the first half of his career playing himself into the top 10 and the second half of his career playing himself out of it. I didn’t see a single person predict Favre would make the cut, and it was so weird to have him introduced third.
Favre and Brees are good comparisons. One Super Bowl and holder of accumulation stats at the end of their careers. Accumulation stats that probably won’t last 10 years. But at least Favre was pretty legitimately the best QB for about three or four years. Brees arguably was only the best one year- 2009.I'm a huge Favre fan but could see Brees over him & Elway. I think you're selling him short tbh. From 2008 on he's been absolute bonkers playing in the same period as the GOAT. Idk I'd take him over Elway 10/10 & maybe Favre.Favre and Brees are good comparisons. One Super Bowl and holder of accumulation stats at the end of their careers. Two things:
1. That 1980s AFC was the JV conference.
2. Let’s not forget how many inferior teams Manning lost to at home. He was actually 3-3 against Brady and Roethlisberger. It’s not like he was stopped by dominant forces; he couldn’t get past the likes of Billy Volek (lol). He just lost games by being so terrible when it mattered...didn’t matter who the other team was.
I don’t care that much but him and Favre both led the league in TDs four times each. Favre was arguably more dominant in his prime. If you’re going to make a stats argument for Brees- and that’s the only argument that can be made for a one SB quarterback than he has to have better stats than other players on the list. Brees primary stats case is not one of dominant seasons, but of a lot of really good ones where he wasn't the best except for a couple years.I think you're selling him short tbh. That makes it more likely, rather than less likely, that Manning would have gotten to those SBs. Elway had the advantage of competing against lesser intra-conference competition during his time.
That's a little bit misleading, though. For example, Manning's Colts went from a 3-13 team to a 13-3 team in one season. He then lost a divisional home game, but it was against the 13-3 Titans.
He didn't lose another home game until 2005, against the Steelers (11-5 and eventual SB champs), then lost that close one to SD in 2007, when they'd after losing to them in the regular season.
So we can say that Manning was a choking dog for losing so many playoff games (and I do), but he wasn't just dropping all sorts of home games to garbage teams. He was usually getting beaten by some decent to good teams. That absolutely does not mean that he shouldn't have won some of those games, but it does mean that he at least wasn't gas piping it against complete stiffs time after time.
And, just to look at the other side of the equation, Elway had a pair of first playoff game losses to 9-7 teams, one when he was leading a 9-7 team himself, and one where he was leading a 13-3 team.

Im a huge Favre fan. In the minority for sure but Brees has a case concerning Favre/Elway esp imo.Farve has a ring just like Brees. Had all the same stat records when he retired despite playing in a different era with harder passing rules. Went to an extra SB. Had the ironman streak. Had 3 MVP's which puts him in an elite class
