Fairbanks had enough of the Sullivans and signed up with UColorado for 1979. When the Sullivans found out they suspended him for the final couple of games of the regular season or so, but then let him come back for the playoff game.

I read recently that the Sullivans had agreed on a new contract for Stingley and when he was paralyzed, tried to renege on it and that along with cheaping out on Hannah/Gray were the final straws.... Gives a different light and makes you wonder if the Sullivans shouldn't have sold out to someone with financial backing and how differently things would have been.....

Yeah, people tend to forgot how much of an absolute sht-show the Pats were in the 70's and much of the 80's. And it was all because of the Sullivans and their poor business skills.

Much easier to play defense pre - 2004 when Polian effectively neutered defensive backs. More recent anti targeting rules has made passing even easier the past 3 or 4 years than ever before. A lousy QB like Winston is about to pass for over 5,000 yards and 300 yards games are no longer noteworthy. If this defense dominates in the post season it will get acknowledged.
