Brady Sr - Brady's Future in New England is Up to Bill

I suppose that makes sense, but curious why that player has to be on the 53 to do so and can’t be someone on the practice squad. Seems like there’s at least slightly more investment in the player from Bill beyond just having someone to help Stidham.
Kessler is a veteran and there are restrictions when it comes to the practice squad, but I agree, it does seem like a waste of a roster spot. Although, it feels like it was unexpected so I wonder if maybe knowing what he knows now, should Brady come back for one more year, if Belichick doesn't potentially grab someone, whether it's a draft pick or an UDFA, to fill that role on the practice squad behind Stidham next season.

i still think Brady will play always with a Patriot uniform
but probably not as long as i thought

Irrespective of injury Brady will be here 2020 and 2021 then retire IMO.

at this point, you dont move on from Brady. The Patriots had their chance to move on from him when we had Jimmy G. Kraft stepped in the last minute and squashed that. I suspect it will be the same. TB12 is no fool. he knows his skills are declining and wont hang around like Manning did. I think it is really up to Kraft

No offense but this is flat out ********. Belichick had the opportunity to trade Brady and keep Garrapolo less than 6 months before he traded Garrapolo and he laughed at John Lynch when he proposed it, and that’s according to Lynch. The recurring claim that Belichick wanted to trade Brady is complete and utter fantasy, Kraft never intervened because there was nothing to intervene in.

I wish people would stop spewing that crap.

I want him to only play for the pats but you gotta admit, him going somewhere else to try to win it all and prove it’s not BB would be some kick-ass must watch stuff

bring in Fitzpatrick so he can have a y2k dilfer year

You serious w the bolded?

How many TD's has Bill ever thrown? He making the reads, pre/post for 12?

It's almost 2020.
You don't need to run the ball for PA to work.

"Running QBs" aren't more likely to get hurt than "pocket passers"

And for fuks sake Players > coaches. Talent > Scheme.

For any slow one confused ... Just hoping we can put these myths behind us.

I'd guess that Belichick probably wants to see how Brady performs over the rest of the season before he commits to anything, which--provided that doing so doesn't offend Brady to the point that it incites him to leave--is a smart, if cold, move on his part. AKA exactly the sort of move I'd expect Belichick to make. He knows we're in uncharted territory age-wise.

I really, really hope they come to an agreement and Brady retires here, but nothing would really surprise me as an outcome, and no outcome will make me like and respect either one of them any less.

At 42 and at the cost of an elite QB it has to be a year by year decision and each side has to trust the other. Failing to understand that is the only way to introduce controversy into this.
At some point Brady will no longer be able to play at an effective level. Bb will pull the plug at that point, unless brady does first and it is heavily influenced by the potential injury as well.
So you do what they did. Pay Brady well in basically a series of 1 year contracts and when it’s over it over.
I don’t think there will be much disagreement from either side when that day comes and it certainly hasn’t come yet. 15 months from now that may change.

Like some others, ever since Deflate Jihad I lost much of my previous interest in the NFL. This also makes me less emotionally invested in TFB "Shall I stay or Shall I Go?" conundrum. I sincerely hope he retires a Patriot but would watch with mild interest were he to play elsewhere.

I spotted the same Tweet and when I read the post, it was a site trying to grab some clicks by taking the statement Curran posted and using that in the title. While smart on their part for manipulating it and gaining page views (especially for a random site with 1.9 million followers) and making noise, those of us in here should obviously be aware of the original source.

I trust Curran and I do believe not all is well when it comes to Brady. But what that "Complex" site did tonight wasn't anything new and while clever, hopefully no one here falls for it.

What happens in get playoffs will determine Tom’s fate.

Let's be real here. If Brady has lost a step it's minimal and the problem with the offense are the receivers and the offense as a whole.

Brady deserves some weapons

While I hope both parties concur, here’s the thing: One year deals create this circus atmosphere of speculation that no doubt weigh heavy on all parties ....24/7.
What athlete or organization wants to continue with a permanent distraction.

Signing a 3 year deal in another market gains Brady 2 years of peace of mind and a fresh perspective.

I caught the final 3 years of Marino in Miami and these slow, under the microscope retirements turn into sideshow clusterfu#*s that no sane organization should want to endure. Green Bay had their own day time drama.

Does BB seem like the guy who entertains permanent distraction?
Think Jimmy Johnson hasn’t offered Bill his thoughts regarding aging superstar QBs?

Will legitimate free agent weapons consider NE if the QB is a permanent short timer?
Humphries dismissed NE’s overture specifically because of Brady’s uncertain future.
It will only get worse without resolution: Cut bait or assume risk and extend with a multi year deal.

Fascinating times: Will Bill sacrifice short term wins to jumpstart NE’s next chapter?

As fans I know a lot of people agonize over this stuff, but I don’t really think it’s that complicated.

I think it’s just a matter of Brady reaching the age where Belichick knows a sudden significant decline might appear and he doesn’t want to be on the hook for a huge salary for a dead year. So it’s just year to year, based off of how Brady plays that year including the end of the year.

So far Brady’s playing at a level where he’ll definitely come back next year as far as I can see.

100% agree. Any 2020 deal will come down to how much $ they want to pay in 2020 and push to the 2021 cap.

If it exceeds "the #" BB and Kraft have, then Tom needs to figure out what he wants to do in terms of accepting, retiring or playing somewhere else.

His business partner is on record saying Brady wants to play to 47.
Tommy SR just offered a similar statement.
His agent is out there stirring the pot using his media contacts to establish a narrative.
None of this would be necessary if retirement was in the cards
Therefore.... I’m removing your “retirement” choice from the big 3 options.
Two choices left:
Continue to play under a cloud of uncertainty for an organization that won’t back him longer term
Play for a new organization that will overcompensate him long term in a less restrictive environment.

As I commented a few weeks ago, there is no Steve Young, Aaron Rogers or Andrew Luck sitting on the bench ready to step in and take Brady's job.

BB is no fool. With no legit replacement in the wings (and the fact they traded the heir apparent to S.F.), they are all in on Brady until he can't do the job any longer.
