MNF: Never-Mores vs. Bo Peeps

Who says Brady is leaving after this year ? These rumors are really bugging me, no one knows what will happen and I refuse to believe it will happen. Maybe that is the optimist in me .

I doubt he does actually leave but his point still is valid. Jackson is 22 and the most deadly weapon in football. It's another discussion if the Patriots would actually be willing to adapt their system and bench Brady for Jackson though.

No 2 gapping has to be a part of it. One failing opens up too many running lanes against a good OL. You beat an option with gap discipline. 2 players assigned to each gap improves gap discipline.
The main point though is you have to mix it up. You cannot go toe to toe with a very good ol 3 TEs and a running QB.
The offense chooses who they option off of by the blocking scheme. They don’t block the man they option off of, so the d can’t choose who that is or disguise it

Baltimore's zone and gap reads were specifically designed to attack our two-gapping system, their gap reads ate up our flowing and scraping LBs, which is why I think we should evolve away from that the next time, but you are correct, we still have to mix things up to keep them from catching up in terms of adjustments.

On the few instances that we deployed the boogiemen formation, we were able to get into the backfield and blow up the play before it could develop. I see us doing that (the aggressiveness) far more often. The amoeba nature of our boogiemen formation makes it much harder for LJ to find his keys.

I do not what package you are referring to as “boogieman formation” but it sounds like you mean the 3rd and long 1 dL 4 lb 6 dB.
We would get shredded by the run. They essentially have 8 ol on the field. If we match up with 1 dL dime we lose the game before it starts.

On paper it is a "1 DL in 3 point, four LB, blah blah" but in reality, it is anything but. Most personnel are in stand up and constantly moving around- how do you gap block against a fluid front? How do you read? Establish your keys?

And no, we won't get shredded because we get in the backfield before LJ even has time to hand off to a RB.

He's coming back to Earth, eventually. What's going to define his legacy is if he has the ability to evolve.

Running QB's never have, and never will last for long in the NFL. In the last 20 years, only one running QB has won a championship. The rest were pocket passers.

Ok I’m not going to argue. Just ask someone who knows football if the way to defend a running qb with a formation of 5 ol 3 te 1 rb is to go tiny with 1 300 lber, 4 guys 250-260 and 6 dbs. Then ask them if the right way to defend it is with size and strength.
But I’m curious how many times have we tackle a qb this year before he could even hand off?

Yeah sureee....he’s only a running qb, he can’t throw

Jackson is a great weapon and deserves all the accolades he is getting. Just like Mahomes last year did.

But you’re a consistent one note pony. Not just on this subject.

Who is YOUR team, Shank?

.

I think that you are thinking in terms of hat on hat. We aren't going to win that battle because Balitmore is built to play bully ball. I'm thinking in terms of putting more men on the line than can be accounted for, blocking-wise.

I'm not so much talking about sacking as bringing pressure on LJ before he can make his reads. Sure, the risk is that it then becomes a broken play, which is why I think we'll be in dime.

Ravens play the Niners, Bills and Steelers. All top defenses. Maybe one of those teams will figure it out? Browns could have given them issues but the league made sure their best player is not playing that week.

No, their best player made sure their best player is not playing that week. Garrett more than deserved what he got.

His running sets up his throwing. His dual threat nature has by and large spared him of the necessity to identify what coverage he is facing.

The punishment was ridiculous. 2-3 games max, plus a fine. Rudolph was nt injured. What about the late hit on Dorsett. Missed a game or two. Could cost the Pats HFA with him out of the lineup. No suspension, no fine. This league is a joke.

I’m talking about defending the run.

That is where we have to make a sacrifice. We're not going to stop the best run game in the NFL, anyway. We will certainly try to slow it down, but I think it's critical that we get out to a fast start and stay ahead so Baltimore is forced to rely on passing to keep up.

“Bet I’ll shut you all out next time.”

Nice trade, LA. And you have to pay him too.

The Ravens and their all world Jackson remind me of the Cam Newton Super Bowl year.

Two completely different style of offenses and Quarterback.

There's only one similarity between the two offense.

And to balance it out the annual dread for baltimore is back in full force.
