If BB wants an OL who can fit in to the Pats' system right now, Solder is really the only realistic option. The last few years in NE, Solder seemed to be on the downside of his career and was often injured. That, plus his cap hit, are mitigating circumstances.

What's his cap hit and future cost look like to get him? I'd do it if he's a bargain, but I am very concerned about his long term health. I wouldn't pony up much to have him under the cap.

Reiss predicts no moves
Patriots' Bill Belichick gets 300th NFL win with familiar formula

Bold prediction for next week: The Patriots won't make another trade by Tuesday's deadline, instead welcoming back first-round draft choice N'Keal Harry to the active roster. Harry was previously designated to return off injured reserve, and is eligible to make his debut in the game next week at Baltimore. Also on the predictions front, 2018 first-round pick Isaiah Wynn will be designated to return off IR this week (eligible to play for the first time Nov. 17 at Philadelphia).

This is bullsh^t. Enough is enough. How much suffering do we patriots fans have to endure? If they don’t trade for a difference-maker at TE, I am storming the executive offices at Gillette like Area 51. Who is with me!!??

Why are we OK with Newhouse OK as a backup?

Come on, mg. Do I really have to explain the difference between starters and backups, in terms of expected/needed performance?

I really don't get the Solder talk. Wynn's returning. How does it make sense to spend what's left of the cap on a short term get of a guy who's going to be a backup OT, when you've got a much bigger need at TE? And this

New York Giants
General Manager: Dave Gettleman (since 2018)

Total Cap Liabilities: $191,723,053
  • Top 51: $140,120,660
  • Team Cap Space: $3,319,109
  • Offense: $90,127,109
  • Defense: $61,170,734
  • Special: $1,455,000

combined with this (cap savings in parenthesis means it's a cap hit, not cap savings)

Dead Money & Cap Savings
$24,900,000 ($12,900,000)

Nate Solder Contract Details, Salary Cap Charges, Bonus Money, and Contract History | Over The Cap

makes the deal a difficult one to get done, even if both teams are desirous of doing it .

Bill Belichick says it is a possibility that LT Isaiah Wynn will begin practicing this week, as he is now eligible to do so as part of IR rules.

Wynn upgrades the line, but C is the real problem. TE could be upgraded, and I think Howard is in play. Would be a great get. I don't now how they fix the C issue.

There's an out in his contract after this year and his remaining salary would fit under the cap. Problem is the Giants would have to eat a ton of dead money if they dealt him, so the cost to acquire him is probably prohibitive - something like a 1st rounder to rent a mediocre to bad tackle.

Anyone else the giants might trade this year?

I said it a few pages back.. the only way I see this being attractive is if they Giants eat up even more of his salary and turn this year's salary into a bonus and then trade him.

And even then they won't get more than a swap pick early or some kind of 5th round pick back while being even worse in pass protection of a recently drafted top 10 QB.

Until there are more moves this just doesnt pass the smell test.

Jets trade Leonard Williams to the Giants for a 3rd and 5th.

Just an info FYI:

The chances of the Jets trading a linebacker probably just went down a bit.

Adam Gase: CJ Mosley will be out 5-6 weeks. Saw specialist, will try to avoid surgery. At that point, will be re-evaluated. Sam Darnold expected to play thru left thumb injury. #NYJ

With this news, Jets fans must be starting to get worried about possibly missing the playoffs...

Interesting bit of trivia about the Leonard Williams trade:

The Leonard Williams trade marks the first time the Jets and the Giants have ever made a trade with each other.

So we need to give up a first for Howard.

but we won't apparently.
