Demaryius Thomas says he was insulted/disrespected by Patriots.

I'm not sure if it's just that lots of posters here are actual management in their real life jobs or maybe being a sports fan creates a sense of pro-organization entitlement.

Orrrr...maybe a lot of posters here aren't socialists but instead are capitalists who realize nothing happens in a vacuum and recognize that the season is 6 weeks gone, the cap is the cap and business is business. Just a thought, understanding YMMV

Sorry BB but this is another way of saying you went back on your word. Not a good look. I get he doesn't give a sh*^t. It is what it is.

Bill Belchick on Demaryius Thomas' frustrations: 'I felt like I was always truthful with him'
I see the point, but disagree. Arguably the best receiver in the league becoming available isn’t something you can reasonably foresee.

I do think BB feels bad, as evidenced by him answering questions about a guy not on the team, which is very unlike him.

DT was "BlueStar'd" by BB

He’s not wrong.

Shouldn’t have been traded in the first place. Hated it then and hate it even more now.

Totally foolish to bet big on Brown and that the receiving corse would stay fully healthy.
Just think we could be undefeated now if we had Thomas's 9 catches for 108 yards.

No player has a position guaranteed on the team for the season.
Any player can get released as is needed - cap implications be damned.
No player has a spot promised on the team for any portion of the year.

Your post is ridiculous, inflammatory and not applicable to past operating procedures.
So you are either being disingenuous or just typing crap to enhance drama.

I feel for Thomas. If I give my word to someone, then it’s as good as a guarantee. BB admitted that happened so not sure why it’s a debate. Unfortunately for us, it backfired. Even though Thomas is not really a threat, we could definitely use him now.

'word' is not applicable to how Belichick has historically coached this team.
Can you link to where we know Belichick gave his 'word' or is that a fabrication by another?

This should come as a surprise to no one.

We have a few who think Thomas was somehow different
than any other player signed by the team over the past 20 seasons.
Perhaps we can rehash Lawyer Milloy again ... let's go back to the early days.

???

It's not Thomas' fault that he's been stuck with that team's recent QB situation. If Thomas were still in New England, the Patriots' record would be the same, but Thomas' numbers would almost certainly be better, and the Patriots would probably have looked much better on offense. And the need for WR help would be less, or non-existent.

How Goodelian of you. The only way that could be interpreted as going back on his word is if you started out looking for that and arrived at your predetermined conclusion.

Again, what do you expect? Is Belichick supposed to end every conversation he has with a player with a disclaimer? "I reserve the right to change my mind if Aaron Donald, Alvin Kamara, Zach Ertz, Julio Jones or Mitchell Schwartz get cut tomorrow."

Like I said in an earlier post, the change was an all pro WR becoming available for cheap. It's not as if Belichick made a promise to Thomas and then changed his mind because Meyers looked good in two consecutive practices.

If you don't think playing for the Jets is a waste of time, then you aren't qualified to judge what is and isn't.

That said, I do wish he was still here.

"what I said was not the same as what I had said previously."

It's right there in English. Stop being a homer. BB is admitting he went back on his word because things changed. I'm not making anything up or reading into anything. Your take on my interpretation is wrong.

It's become clear that many posters here do not value a man giving another man his word. A man's word is worthless when it comes to making sure the team wins.

But we make fun of Humphries for keeping his word to the Titans.

Wow, maybe I'm old fashioned but that's not the way my Dad brought me up. Even in business, especially in business, a man's word should be his bond. No wonder why this world is so f^*ked up. This has nothing to do with capitalists either.

Yeah.

Belichick lied/went back on his word. We can argue about justifications ("Things change", etc...), and the exact level of dishonesty in BB's original words to DT, but that's not going to change the underlying fact. And it's stupid for people to try claiming otherwise, when Belichick has admitted it.

I'm not sure how much sympathy his "I could have just signed with the Jets in the first place" argument is going to attract.

That's like saying "I could have just went to community college" after your Harvard application gets rejected.
