The clock struck midnight long ago. Congrats on the super bowls but definitely the luckiest player / team I've seen ever. Since 2001 the Giants have made it to the NFCC twice and both times they went on to win the super bowl. For a team who's only made 2 deep runs into the playoffs over 19 years thats a TON of luck / bounces to go your way to win the SB both times, with wild card caliber teams.

The patriots never got lucky though. Everytime they won they were just better than everyone and every time we lost we just got unlucky

Never said that. The patriots have been to the afcc or beyond I believe 13 times in 19 years and have 6 titles. Theyve had years of luck and years of misfortune, it has balanced out to 6 rings which imo is a fair balance given their sustained success. They could have as many as 10 rings and as little as 2. The Giants have made 2 deep runs in that time and both times got the breaks. 2 is about the max rings you could realistically see for that team and thats what theyve got in 19 years, that is above average luck/fortune. Way to miss the point, you did get to make your super smart and snarky response tho , congrats!

Meh. I think this was the plan all along. Jones showed well in preseason, and they've had some time to evaluate how well he can handle the pressure. Once that got clarified, they were going to wait for the first bad stretch of the season to do this. It just happened in the first two games.

Cutting Manning early would have put a ton of pressure on Jones and they didn't know if he could handle it. So they invested one more season of Manning's salary to buffer him. You can argue that either way, but it at least is a cogent strategy.

Eli and the Giants have been incredibly average for the past 15 or so years as evidenced by Eli's 116-116 record. If he is take take credit for the 2 Super Bowl wins then he has to take blame for his regular season record.

Facts as I see them:

• Eli's ranking in all time passing yards and TD's is a reflection of his durability and playing in this era. His volume stats compare favorably to prior HOF QB's due to this fact but compare unfavorably to his contemporaries.
• Average Eli season - 25 TD, 17 Int, 3850 yards 84.1 QB rating
• Vinny Testaverde and Drew Bledsoe both retired top 10ish in many volume stats. No one ever considered them HOF type QB's.
• Eli is typically ranked somewhere around 15th every year on efficiency stats
• Eli was clutch in both Super Bowl wins and deserves credit for the wins but he was far from exceptional as evidenced by the 36 offensive points scored in the 2 games combined

To me Eli was a durable, slightly above average QB who played well during 2 Super Bowl winning runs in his career. Had the ability to get hot and was periodically effective at the end of games. He deserves credit for the SB wins but just how much is really the big question.
His efficiency stats are embarrassing for this era and his volume stats will be dwarfed in the coming years. If he makes the HOF then how many QB's from this era should make it? Most top 10 QB's now post better stats than Dan Marino did throughout most of his career so should we expect to see a dozen QB's from the current era make it in?

Never once have I thought Ellie was a top 5 QB in a single year.
Most seasons I had Ellie outside the top 10.
The guy is a career 60% passer both in the regular season and playoffs and a turnover waiting to happen whenever he takes the field.
His career QB rating is 84....45th on the all time list just behind talents Cutler, Gannon, Flacco.

Equating allegations with proven facts then using them as an acceptable reason for disqualifying someone from the HoF is a slippery slope to put it kindly. Imagine the reaction here to someone who said "Classy guys don't conspire to deflate footballs. For this reason he should be disqualified from the HOF. " Or "Classy guys don't illegally videotape other teams signals. For this reason he should be disqualified from the HOF." The memorabilia case was settled with no admission or proof of wrong doing. Brady and Belichick actually were punished for their alleged (I believe nonexistent) transgressions. We can call BS on those punishments all we like (and we are right when we do so) but the real difference for us as Pats fans is, of course, Brady and Belichick are 'ours' and Eli not only isn't but 'stole' two rings from 'our' guys.

For fans there's probably a decent to good sports argument to be had on Eli as a HoF'er based on his accomplishments, let's leave the hypocrisy for lesser fan bases.

He won Super Bowls against the Patriots. He prevented 19-0. The Helmet Catch is going to be replayed over and over for as long as the NFL exists. He was Super Bowl MVP in both games, with iconic big plays in both games.

It's ironic that Patriots fans sometimes can't see how much of a boogeyman the Patriots are to the rest of the league. Nobody cares how it happened that we were beaten in the Super Bowl, just that we were, and Eli is the figurehead.

Eli making the HOF would be the equivalent of Derek Jeter winning multiple gold glove awards despite being arguably one of the worst fielding SS in the league. I will certainly not be surprised if Eli gets in but it would be a travesty as far as I am concerned.

If he gets in almost solely due to his Super Bowl runs then Edelman and Hightower should be absolute locks as they both have more post season heroics than Eli.

He is a .500 QB (116-116) who made the playoffs 6 times in 15 years and only won a playoff game in 2 of those years. He had 4 Peyton's ( that's a one and done ) in the playoffs . On the other side of the scale, he caught lightning in a bottle 2 years and won the Super Bowl versus the Pats ( but it was his defense that carried the day) and 2 miraculous catches... With a different name, he isn't getting in the HOF.....but he will having played in NY....
