Roberts was destroying people in the playoffs and SB last season.

They are replacing F***ING ANDREWS Spot with Roberts

FITTING. JUST FITTING
THEY DIDNT EVEN REPLACE HIM

Where are my drugs? I NEED THEM AAAAAAA

RW,

I love you , but think you are being too kind in calling him mediocre. ;);)

I would say he's our worst linebacker on the team and would go one step further and say he's our worst defensive player on the team. I understand that he's well respected in the locker room, but still surprised that he is a captain.

He improved last year. Still very, very mediocre but at least hes not destroyed every snap.

So will Andrews walk out onto the field for the coin toss in street clothes?

I will never understand the dislike for Roberts. Sure, he overshot some gaps a few times early on in his career, but he's developed into the heart and soul of the run defense. Good for him!
I perceived the limited snaps in preseason incorrectly. Not a bad problem to have... Alot of quality linebackers

Elandon Roberts showed a ton of improvement last season, and it’s fairly obvious that Belichick appreciates his skill set. There were opportunities to replace him with a number of candidates, and yet here he is.

I don’t really see how Roberts is any different from a guy like Spikes. They are both run stopping thumpers who are limited to the first couple of downs due to a lack of speed and athleticism.

I would agree he is the worst LB. In the company of KVN, High, Jamie, Bentley ,I don't think that is the same as saying he is the second coming of Jordan Richards.

How many teams have a better 5th LB than Roberts?

Roberts is tough as nails. My first impression was in his first Pats TC when he sustained a violent leg injury only to return to the game after a few snaps. Good run stuffer. Happy to see him earn the respect of his teammates.

So we computing OLBs with ILBs to excuse for Roberts? That's cool, no a strecth at all

The cop that harassed Roberts earlier this year will see him on TV and say “‘oh wow, they made the ‘big black guy’ a Captain”.

Okay. So who do you feel on the Pats should be qualified as an ILB? Lets take baby steps first to get to some answers.

Roberts is no All-Pro, but don't believe he deserves the Richards level criticism he seems to get at times.

Roberts at this point is more complete than Spikes ever was. He's improved every year. He was a serious liability as a 6th round rookie, and some people will apparently never forget.

I don't think he would shine as a full time starter but he wouldn't embarrass himself.

Roberts was green and undisciplined coming out of college and his play in the NFL initially reflected these issues. Is he a Pro Bowl talent? No. Will he ever be? Probably not.
BUT, his play has improved over the past year to the point where he is a serviceable NFL player. Anyone who has not seen this clear progression in his game has simply not been paying attention.

Never a bad player, but with the development of Bentley, a redundant one. The Pats have multiple players who can play on the inside with Bentley and do it as well, if not better than the physically limited Roberts. So it was natural to think in a very tight roster, Roberts would be thought of as trade bait or even a surprise cut.

That being said, his election to a captaincy shows a side that goes beyond his status on the football field. Unlike a lot of teams being a captain is an important position on this team and the selections are locker room driven, not coach driven. It's not just an honor, it's also a responsibility. Captains have had important roles as leaders in the past.

This status could be one of the reasons he's still with the team. Clearly he adds value BEYOND the playing field.

Elandon Roberts has improved at all facets of the game. Your simply not paying attention or you refuse to noticed if you doubt that. That being said...I'm a little surprised he's a team caption...but good for him.
You're not paying attention. ;)

Andrews? The IR contingent has a rep on the captain's list, now?
Looks like we should expect to see Andrews around the team a lot this season, even though he isn't playing. But you are right, usually IR guys just go away for the season because its all about the players. Brady, IIRC, wasn't around in 2008 at all.

Maybe David's condition will allow him to even make himself present at practices and games. Interesting to see if he travels with the team.
