Final 53 man roster thread

Just thought of a trade that could solve a lot of our roster issues and in certain degrees makes sense, although I doubt it would happen.

We trade Burkhead, Roberts, and Eluemeandor AND a 3rd and 6th round picks to Washington for Trent Williams. Then we move Wynn to LG Thuney to C, and have a starting OL that would consist of Williams - Wynn - Thuney - Mason - Cannon.

Maybe it wouldn't start out that way because Williams would have to learn the system and Wynn and Thuney would have to have time to get adjusted to the moves, but if by the middle of October they had it all figured out, that would be an AWESOME OL

For Washington they would essentially get 5 players, three of which are NFL, for a single asset that is of no use to them.

For the Pats they get a probowl caliber LT who will give Wynn another full year to recover and get in playing shape while playing a position many thought was ideal for him. Putting Thuney at C would likely up grade the position once he got his feet wet. They also create some roster space to keep some younger players that might have been lost. They also improve the depth of the OL with Cunningham/Crosten, Frodholdt and Karras now being the primary OL back ups

Another thought, if you didn't want to to disrupt 2 positions this late ni the process, would make Wynn the swing OT and keep Karras and Thuney in their current positions. Now your best back ups would be Wynn, who is showing he's a starting caliber OT, Frodholdt who is a developmental guy they like and Cunningham or someone who is better than he is.
I find the odds of this happening to be very small.

...BTW-2 Bedard did an EXCELLENT job of breaking down film of Cunningham and Eluemeador. Here are his basic conclusions. Nothing to like about Cunningham outside of his strength and size, but nothing particularly NOT to like. At best he's a back up RT.

On the other hand he liked Eluemeanor who has position flexibility (both G's, both T's) Thought he had starting G and RT potential. The only issue has been his attitude. I Dante can reach him and make him a "finisher", then it will be a steal. If he can't, then it looks like he can be an adequate back up at 3 positions...
I'm a little confused: isn't Elmanure the one with the size & strength superior to Cunningham? And isn't Cunningham at his best a backup Left Tackle because of his size & strength limitations for the Right side?

ST (6) S. Gostkowski, J. Bailey, J. Cardona, M. Slater, N. Ebner, K. Crossen

Notes:

OL - Uncomfortable just having Froholdt and two new guys as the only reserves, so keeping Gauthier as center backup and Froholdt can focus on the guard position (except in emergencies obviously). Almost put in Ferentz, but he hasn't looked good against backups in preseason, so might as well go with the rookie

WR - I don't think Thomas is at 100% yet. He's had the offseason to learn the playbook and a couple weeks to practice - maybe the plan is to re-sign him later in the season once he's fully healthy. Or if the plan is to send Harry or LaCosse to IR after cutdowns, he can be re-signed then

EDGE - Wanted to add Calhoun, but can't make the club from the tub. He's a practice squad candidate to add back onto the roster later in the season

LB - It was reported that Roberts has been involved on the coverage teams in practice recently, something he hasn't done before. Think they're trying to make room for him.

CB - I would cut Dawson, but I think they want to give him another year to prove himself

Inactive (4)
B. Watson (Suspended)
L. Kendricks (Suspended) - Not sure if they'll want him back anyway
C. Meredith (PUP)
Y. Cajuste (NFI)

It's obvious that we need another high quality OL.Trent Williams would be perfect but maybe too expensive. But we need to explore options quickly.

Wise being in this game could potentially be telling...

Just have a hunch that Dorsett will get traded - he wants more playing time and can get it elsewhere. if not and he sticks, Dawson might be the one out (but I still like Dawson and hope not).

Prediction: Hoyer will get cut.

Then will be brought back as soon as Andrews goes to IR.

I think he's the logical choice. He'll know you want him back, so another team will have to give him something he wants more than playing behind Tom. In that case, the Pats are doiong a long-time good guy a favor.

Seems like Hoyer has “shadow roster” potential. Does any NFL team really want him at 33 years old? At the least couldn’t they release him, IR Andrews, then sign him back?

Hoyer is on the team, we’re carrying all three QBs.

1) I expect more OL transactions in the next 10 days. Also, we could have Croton or Ferentz active for Game 1, even if they are the 8th active OL.

2) math is an asset for me. But, it wasn't me who found the issue. Another post found that you have the number "4" for ST and for LB. However, you have 5 names for each group. These are two additional players.
And there you have it. Thanks for c

That's not a bad take. Eluemeanor is a starting quality starter at OG and OT, HOWEVER, the Ravens got tired of waiting for him to grab the opportunity his talent made available. He's a guy that will be a steal if Dante ignites a fire under him, OR will be a guy who is good enough to be a back up and be gone when Cajuste comes back

As for Cunningham, I'm not sure he's a upgrade to Skipper, though he could be, but not much more than that.

My initial 53 prediction:

QB (3) T.Brady, B.Hoyer, J.Stidham
RB (5) S.Michel, J.White, D.Harris, B.Bolden, J.Develin
WR (8) J.Edelman, N.Harry, J.Gordon, D.Thomas, J.Meyers, P.Dorsett, G.Olszewski, M.Slater
TE (1) R.Izzo,
C (2) D.Andrews, T.Karras
G (4) S.Mason, J.Thuney, J.Eluemenor, H. Froholdt
T (3) M.Cannon, K.Cunningham, I.Wynn
DE (4) M.Bennett, J.Simon, C.Winovich, S.Calhoun
DT (4) D.Shelton, L.Guy, B.Cowart, D.Parry
ILB(2) J.Bentley, J.Collins
OLB(3) D.Hightower, C.Munson, K.VanNoy
CB (7) S.Gilmore, J.McCourty, J.Jackson, D.Dawson, J.Jones, K.Crossen, J.Williams
SS (2) P.Chung, T.Brooks
FS (2) D.Harmon, D.McCourty
ST (3) S.Gostkowski, J.Bailey, J.Cardona

Suspended: TE B.Watson

Trade away: RB R.Burkhead, DE D.Wise, LB E.Roberts

Possible pick ups: OL, TE

Not sure about Dawson, Ebner, Melifonwu with regards to ST efforts, I'd guess BB will take one whom he can use regularly during game action too not only ST, therefore Ebner is out (also age)
Since Andrews will go on IR, one roster spot will be vacant immediately

WRs can take some passing/blocking duties for TE I would rather see only Izzo for now until Watson returns than losing one of this WR prospects for mediocre TE (Izzo at least does blocking) and this years team will not be that dependent of TE with this big WRs they have now

To the QB situation I don't see BB cutting Hoyer yet, as he is valuable to the team of the field (perhaps more than on the field?)

indy is trying out quarterbacks
That’s only due to the fact that Chad Kelly is suspended for the first 2 games; therefore, they need a backup for a couple of weeks. I doubt they’d want to keep 3 QBs on the roster in week three and beyond. Either way, your point stands that another team could give him a look.

Two weeks ago, I was convinced Wise and Meyers were IN, and that Dawson would be out. I also never considered Thomas & Gordon would be ready. Starting to think I was wrong on all of these predictions.

How could you know? Thomas must have been working his butt off. His route running looked very crisp and the burst he had still lives.

Here is my final 53, which will of course change by Sunday:

Andrews goes to IR designated to return.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Burkhead and or Roberts traded.

I'm projecting trading Dorsett, if not he makes the final 53 and Gunner gets the ax.

I think DT plays the move TE position, and the Pats only keep Izzo for now.

I don't think Hoyer is going anywhere, if they did want to trade him, they would have showcased him last night. Instead he didn't see the field.

I think Munson takes King's place.

Also if Miami cuts Dwayne Allen, I wouldn't be shocked if he comes back to the Pats.

QB (3) T.Brady, B.Hoyer, J.Stidham
RB (5) S.Michel, J.White, D.Harris, B.Bolden, J.Develin

I've seen 100 people note that BB hasn't cut a 2nd round pick in his second year. What I want to know is when was the last time a 2nd round pick looked terrible through his 2nd pre-season and then turned it around?

It's a valid point. I wouldn't be shocked either way.

And now... the turk cometh.

Worse two days of any NFL player's career are today and tomorrow. Have to feel for them.

It wasn't so much a point as an actual question, but I was thinking that BB is known to continue to adapt based on experience, so I thought maybe this is the time.
