Andrew Luck Retires from NFL

I know the previous GM sucked but they did expend a lot of draft capital on the OL.

We know 3rd through 5th round picks on an interior linemen is considered relatively high. These players rarely get picked with premium picks. Look around the NFL, most are mid-rounders with plenty of UDFAs even playing.

But you can easily look up what they did to shore up the OL in Indy:

1st Rounder Ryan Kelly
1st Rounder Quenton Nelson
2nd Rounder Jack Mewhort
2nd Rounder Braden Smith
2nd Rounder Hugh Thornton
3rd Rounder LeRaven Clark
4th Rounder Zach Banner
4th Rounder Khaled Holmes
5th Rounder Joe Haeg
6th Rounder Justin Anderson
7th Rounder Austin Blythe
7th Rounder Denzelle Good

The above numbers also leave out the fact that they drafted Castonzo in the 1st round the year prior to Luck and he was the left tackle all along.

They also brought in starting FAs like Satele, Cherilus, Donald Thomas, Herremans, Slauson.

The Colts have actually expended more draft capital than most teams on their OL. There are plenty of starting late rounders around the league, UDFAs even. Last year the Patriots, for instance, had this: 7th rounder, 5th rounder, 4th rounder, 3rd rounder, UDFA. This isn't uncommon.

Usually interior lineman go 3-7 rounds, tackles are the premium players.

And not all of those OL were busts either.

The Donald Thomas story is an interesting part of this. He has a pretty good season with the Patriots, then signs a big contract with the Colts, he loses his starting spot, then comes in and gets injured, and that was basically his career.

Luck really held the ball too long and did not have much regard for his body. He was tough pain-wise, but fragile. Willing to put his body on the line, but look where it got him. As I always say to the Bills fans at the annual Patriots game in Buffalo, when they start chanting, "Brady is Lady" (the women are chanting too), "How is it that the most effeminate QB in the NFL is also the greatest QB in NFL history?"

Sorry but I can’t help but appreciate Brady even more today! Brady outlasted P Manning and now his successor Luck. At 42 he’s still playing at a high level!

Meh, I don't think this applies. At the time, Luck was one of the people who went against the Deflategate narrative, at least if I recall correctly.
He made at least one pun about deflategate he had used the word deflating and then laughed I forget the interview.

Josh Mcdaniels and his wife just embraced and said we made the right decision.
Now Josh will have Jarret Stidham as a possible franchise QB down the road a player the Colts would kill to have on the roster at this time.

Brady has given more than enough to the Patriots and fans. If he quit in the middle of a real game let alone a preseason one I'd give him the benefit of the doubt......and I guess you missed the video posted of him being booed and called out by name
When did I say patriot fans would boo Brady?
Are you comparing Andrew luck to Tom Brady? Really?

Didn't he also have a tweet that basically told people that the Patriots would have slaughtered the Colts regardless of the status of the footballs? Again, this is from memory of like 6 years ago sooo

In the cut throat corporate world, rule number 1 is never interrupt a rival when he/she/they are so intent on proving their incompetence.
Carry on

It’s the Belichick mantra straight out of Management Sectets of the New England Patriots . The Pats are not a great talent team a la the dynasties of the 70’s 80’s and 90’s. They are simply disciplined and wait until the others screw up or have nervous breakdowns. It’s the primary reason why BB will in fact break his promise about never coaching into his 70’s like Marv Levy and why Brady wants to play to 45 and beyond. The competition gets dumber each year.

Yep. Chris was reaching big time there. Luck was an ok dude throughout Deflategate. It clearly embarrassed him given the circumstances of the game results, his ownership, GM and simply being part of that entire community. He sadly knew he would be part of the story by association.

Genuine question. Do you have to win a super bowl to not be a bust?

Thanks for this, because the answer has to be an obvious "hell no." There are quarterbacks in the Hall of Fame who never won a championship. No player, not even a QB, wins a Super Bowl alone. No team wins a Super Bowl under the likes of Pagano and Grigson.

Some of the posts in this thread seem to acknowledge only two career options: "one of the true greats" and "bust." But most of the NFL is made up of players who fall in the vast spectrum in-between, including Andrew Luck.

Luck was an excellent QB who played for a crap organization, was plagued by injuries, and in relatively few postseason opportunities* failed to raise his game to the occasion. Not one of the greats, but nothing like a bust. Anybody who actually thinks Luck was a bust might want to take a remedial look at JaMarcus Russell and Tim Couch tape. :)

(*Luck's career was so short he only had 4 shots at the playoffs, with a 4-4 record. That's far fewer opportunities than Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, Philip Rivers, etc. John Elway had a losing career playoff record and no championships through 8 appearances. Aaron Rodgers has a losing playoff record for his total career, as did Peyton Manning--Manning with twice as many one-and-outs as Luck had total playoff appearances.)

Reeeeeeaaaaacccccchhhhhhh

The post before last will set you free. He was a class act during Deflategate. If he accidentally stumbled once who’s to blame him. Any of us have done far worse without the media glare.

True, but his meager good karma is vastly overwhelmed by the organizational bad karma banked up in that fiasco.

Tom could retire 5 minutes before the Super Bowl and I’d find him and give him a standing ovation

Wait a second...is this real????

Talk about clickbait. Does anyone argue that those two have an ounce of credibility?

Ok, even WORSE than I suspected. They said it in 2013 and quoted themselves this morning.

They are admitting they are nothing but carnival barkers. We all knew it, but now they are saying ‘This is how we roll, this is who we are’. Why would anyone listen to them?
Been asking myself that question for years...

98.5 as a new station had a clean slate and could've hired local professionals who not only wanted our teams to win, but also had integrity, honesty, senses of humor and respect for their listeners & callers; instead they gave us Douche & the other azzhole, Gresh, and these two cretins...Sad.

WEEI at its worst > Phelger & Spazz at their best.

Gronk retiring is a bigger story than this in my opinion. He does more to help his team than Luck ever has. Good luck for Luck and Colts can suck it.

Dumb comment if Gronk retiring is a bigger story why are the Patriots still Super Bowl favs where as the Colts have gone from 12/1 to 50/1 to win the Super Bowl and their over/under has gone from 10 to 6.5.

Nobody outside of a few Patriots fans thinks Gronk retiring is a bigger story, everybody knew Gronk was on his last legs, Andrew Luck was 2nd fav to win MVP this season behind Mahomes as soon as 3 weeks ago.

You said people would hate Brady if he did the same thing. So you're one tying the two together and come on Andy its not much of a leap to say that people who you say would hate Brady would boo him. In fact based on what happened in Indy hating and booing were pretty much interchangeable terms

Meh, I don't think this applies.
The curse of the deflategate liars applies to the whole crappy organization (and especially Irsay), not Luck. He is collateral damage.
