Texas Stadium - Is it "safe" for Pats gear?

Have you ever been down there? Its a fairly progressive city with a lot of nice people.

I used to travel the country on business. FWIW, Dallas was my least favorite major city to visit. (Tulsa, Oklahoma was the worst small city, by a mile. Holy smokes could I not get out of there fast enough. Someday I'll tell you about the cab driver who spent the whole trip from the airport proudly declaiming on how local law lets you shoot on sight anybody who walks up to your door.)

I will admit that Bostonians aren't friendly in the least. Dallas folks are friendly, but it's a pushy kind of friendly, like they're always ready and eager to go the extra mile to help you do things their way. While I'm on a regional stereotype roll I'll add that West-Coast folks are cheerfully polite but never get too close...the opposite of New Yorkers, who have the rudest exteriors and the warmest hearts. But for all-around warm, neighborly friendliness, the winners in my book are the rust belt folks: Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Milwaukee.

Are you kidding?

We're talking Texans here. The land of steers and queers. We're talking Danny White. We're talking Tom Landry's Key West Fantasy Fest hat. We're talking about a place where the cheerleaders are more popular than the team!

The only place you'll find bigger fems than Texas is California!

Man up and wear your colors proud and if they give you a hard time, give them an old-fashioned Southie beatdown with some Dropkick "Shipping Up To Boston" playing in the background and when you're done, spit some of your beer on them and say, "How do you like them apples, Tex?!"

Texas - where men are men and livestock are afraid.

Patriots 37, Cowgirls 13

Couldn't have said it better myself, Armen :)

Everyone I have met from Texas, especially the Dallas area, are awesome people. They are the right kind of people with a real zeal and passion for life, and especially football. It's cool to see geniune enthusiasm for everday life. Must have something to do with how gd gorgeous their women are. Try to chat up a cowboys fan on football (high school is especially cool to talk about) and they will fill your ear up with some pretty cool stuff.

Hmm, strange. This means either that Texans come in two kinds, "people" and "women," or that Texan women are filled with a passion for life and football by looking at other Texan women. (Personally I find plenty of zeal while looking at men, but to each her own.) ;)

For future reference though, be careful should you ever visit Philadelphia for a game.

I've been thinking about this issue with an upcoming trip to the Ravens' stadium. In my mind, here are the most dangerous cities to wear foreign colors into. Feel free to add to or edit --- I'm not always speaking from experience:

1. Oakland
2. Philly
3. Chicago
4. NYJ
5. Baltimore
6. Miami

And the safest:
1. Phoenix/AZ
2. Seattle
3. San Fran (notice a Left-Coast bias?)
4. Minneapolis/Min
5. St. Louis

Hahaha...a valid point. Bit of an oversight there, my bad.

After Katrina I was in Dallas for a few months (the company I worked for at the time had set up temporary shop there) and they got some of us free tickets to the Eagles/Cowboys game. The Eagles ended up blowing the Cowboys out 33-10, I think, and I didn't see any problems. the Philly fans were doing their dumb chant and decked out in green, I saw one guy with a custom Eagles jersey that had the name "Dallas Sucks" and none of the Cowboys fans seemed to care. They're a civil bunch, and Dallas is a pretty nice town in general.

I'm going to the game next week :rocker: and I'm wondering how safe it is to wear Pats gear there. I'm leaning towards not doing it, as I don't feel like having 10 fat, red neck, Texans jump me. I could probably outrun them, but if I did get caught, I would surely be squashed. I'm a quiet, respectful guy, but my fear is that if the Pats win and some hick fan sees my classic Pat Patriot hat, they may try to thrash me. And I don't want to be thrashed or arrested. So for any of you with insider info about the inhabitants of Texas Stadium, I'd appreciate your feedback.

Also would love to get together with any of my fellow Pats fans before the game. If any of you will be tailgating, I will gladly help drink your beer! Let me know when and where you'll be.

(I was going to post this in the "Road Games" section, but no one seems to go or post there. Sorry.)

Texas Stadium is as civil as any in the NFL for opposing fans. Expect to get razzed but that's just to be expected in any teams own house. The only place I know of that I would never wear opposing teams gear in is Philly.

In the old Vet Stadium they had a jail on the premises. I wore my Cowboys gear there and lived to regret it.

Bring your gear and a civil attitude and you'll be fine.

And oh yea, welcome to Texas!

I've heard that Pitt. is bad and that the NYJ fans are surprisngly docile.

Texans are good folk PatJew. I lived there 11 years.

You may get some ribbing, but it all in good fun.

I've entered the Blarney Stone, and a couple of other bars at Fields Cornah, only not to sometimes remember how, or when, I left. As a matter of fact, I met my future wife at one of them, Cuchulainn's.

Good times, good times.

Well, I'm from Buffalo (NOT A BILLS FAN) and the Cowboy fans were scumbags. They started a huge fight with Bills fans in the parking lot prior to the game. A fan gave them the usually harmless boo and the boys' fan just snapped and sparked a huge brawl. So, I'd be hesitant. If Cowboy fans spark fights on the road I dunno what they do at home when an opposing fan enters.

I bet the Cowboys fans in Buffalo weren't Texans. Just a hunch.

I went to Mile High for the playoff game that the Pats lost in January of '06 in a Brady uniform and a Patriots hat. I'd say universally, the only thing people are doing in visiting stadiums is just playful ribbing. That is unless they're drunk. Then it gets fun.

Good luck out there man!

This was 10 pages long by the time I read this, so I skipped reading everything first....

You're a Pats fans. WEAR YOUR PATS FAN GEAR.

However, being a "respectful, quiet" man, I recommend you keep the "red neck, etc." talk to yourself.

I routinely wear inflammatory visiting team garments in hostile territory. Bruins jerseys in Montreal, Red Sox jerseys in NY, etc...

If you're confident, jovial, and welcoming, it'll be the most fun you'll ever have (free beer, invites to local bars, etc). If you're judgemental, macho, or confrontational, you'll get beat up (tooth loss, keyed car, etc).

Thanks for the advice. Luckily I'm only "macho" on the internet and in my Village People tribute band.

I've heard of the legendary lost member of the Village People...
