how does this rank compared to other QBs?

TOM BRADY IS GETTING SCREWED!!!!!

TOM BRADY IS CHEATING BY TAKING LESS MONEY!!!!!

Take your pick.

It's a 2 year 70 million extension.

So it's a 2 year contract worth 23 million this year,do signing bonuses count at all against the cap?
Its 2 years beyond this year and he got a raise of 8 mill this year from 15 to 23.

This should line up nicely for Stidham to step in seasoned in the system when Tom steps down

We know nothing about Stidham yet...

So much for "a lot" under market. He took less than others but then again he is also 42.
Reportedly he is the 6th highest paid QB.

Gimme the Cap hit pls Schefty

Excuse my ignorance here but does this free up cap space for this year......? Apologies if this is a dumb question

hopefully but no details known yet

So let's think about this...

This cannot be simply structured as an $8 mil raise this year, then $30mil in 2020 and $32mil in 2021.

Brady already had a $27mil cap hit for 2019. A simple contract would mean that's $35mil this year. Ouchie!

So they must be converting salary to signing bonus in order to the lower the 2019 hit. But that's gonna make the 2020 and 2021 hits even worse (though of course the cap will be increasing each year).

Wouldn’t that be something if we can win a couple more with him in the early 2020s, then no matter what happens with the replacement we’d still have a great shot at team of the decade 3x in a row :0

they would re-negotiate if they need to. year by year basically is the contract according to Schefter.

Great news i never had a doubt that it would happen.

They're going to try to somehow push cap cost into his retirement and there will probably be a rules change after it works.

We know Brady was getting $15mil cash but a $27mil cap hit. The reports are that he's now getting $23mil cash.

So let's pretend that $23mil is a $1mil salary (whatever the minimum is) and a $22mil signing bonus. Then his 2019 cap will be $1mil + $22mil/3 = about $8.3mil.

However, that would also mean the bonus causes a $8.3mil hit in the other two years, which on the surface would seem to be mean cap hits of $38.3mil and $40.3mil, which seems pretty wild, even with an increasing cap.

So maybe they only convert, say $9 mil? Then the cap hit this year is $14 + $9/3 = $17 mil and the hits the next two years are $33mil and $35mil.

And if they convert $6mil, then $17+$2=$19mil this year and $32mil and $34mil the next two.
You are leaving out the 12 mill cap hit this year from his prior Sb amortization.

There's limited room to renegotiate because there are only so many years left that Brady can play. Sure, you could renegotiate to a 5 year contract to spread things out, but then if he doesn't finish the contract your cap gets totally crushed in the year he leaves.

I can't imagine Brady giving back much if any of the $62mil he's supposed to get in 2020 and 2021. He has never taken a paycut in any of his renegotiations. He's spread things out, sure, but he's never received fewer dollars.

All they can do is push some of it further out and hurt the team in the year he is no longer here.
