Inb4 "he deserved it for speeding"

More than 20 over the limit where I’m at gets you arrested. Must be nice to be rich and famous.

Eh...59 in a 35, if accurate, and nothing came of it?

I mean the 'big black man' comment isn't particularly stellar but if I was Roberts I'd take the fact nothing else came of it and kind of move on. I'm pretty sure if I got out of my car after doing 59 in a 35 I'd get yelled at too.

I'm not dismissing the notion that black men are often treated differently than me. I remember getting pulled over in the 90s while blasting some Ice Cube and the cop saw me and apologized for stopping me immediately and left. Racism happens and you have your head up your ass if you think otherwise but I'm not sure this is one of those incidents.

Something doesn't smell right. If he REALLY was doing 59 in a 35, then why didn't they give him a ticket?

There are a lot of loose ends in this story. It took them 9 minutes to tell him why he was pulled over????? Possible that "59" was made up and not followed through upon because Watkins didn't have proof. If he did actually clock him at 59, then he was derelict in his duty for not issuing a speeding ticket or even a written warning.

Either way (needlessly harrassing Roberts or giving deferential treatment later because he is a football star) Officer Watkins was not doing the job the taxpayers pay him to do. He is wrong in both possible instances.

Pretty simple

Officer sitting drinking coffee sees black male in a Porsche going really fast.
Officer follows him and estimates he is going 59 in a 35.
Officer follows him to the house
Officer is suspicious car is stolen
Officer checks ID and is a bit rude towards Mr and Mrs ER in the process. Possibly nervous that he messed up big time.
Dashcam captures events
Police muckity-mucks review the situation, confirm it's ER and want matter to go away.

The big black guy, eh?

@Bradyking12 Can you post a direct link to the article instead of the google search link. Don't need google getting anymore $$$ from us. They have enough as it is.

What a jerk that cop is for stopping someone from doing 20 MPH over the speed limit!

He's not a jerk because he pulled him over for speeding, he's a jerk because he called backup for the "big black man" who would not comply with orders, when in fact he immediately complied with the cops orders.

Really glad that there is a bigger and bigger surge to make body cams a requirement on police officers. Keeps the entire system more honest.

I feel like there is a joke somewhere here about Roberts going too fast through the wrong hole...or lane....d%#*!@t. Someone make it funny!

Wow, this whole thing went right over our head.

Either he legitimately clocked him at 59, does his job and writes him a ticket for speeding or he should never have harrassed the guy if he wasn't in fact speeding.

It's either one or the other. You can't be "a little pregnant".

It's really NOT that hard a concept to grasp @203Pat.

Each party could have handled it better, but I don’t see this as a big deal.

If we are being honest we would have to admit it is grossly misleading to say he “was harassed at home” because it gives the false impression that he was at home all along when the cops showed up and went at him.

If you’re on public roads and doing 24 over the limit and a cop lights you up, but you don’t actually stop your vehicle until you’re in your driveway, sorry not sorry but that’s not “being harassed at home.”

Elandon Roberts: Big? Check. Black? Check. A man? Check. Why are we triggered about this? He was supposedly going well over the speed limit and got let off with a warning.

I believe it took 9 minutes to tell Roberts what the allegation would be... if he was allegedly going 24 miles over the speed limit, one might reasonably assume he would have gotten a ticket, imo that is way beyond warning parameters..

Aside from the alleged speeding not sure what Roberts did wrong here..

24 over is what he supposedly did wrong. There really doesn’t have to be an “aside from.” I was cuffed when I was younger for being that much over the limit. I didn’t play for the NFL, so I didn’t get let go.

Maybe it's me but that officer sounds like a little dweeb. ER is 6ft 235. Certainly not small but it's not like Ted Washington climbed out of the car.

...and getting out of the car? A big no-no.

He probably is. And that’s another problem. Cops that are pipsqueaks and have terrible fitness need to quit being hired. If it were up to me, I’d increase the difficulty of the aptitude tests to get into the academy and have them train in MMA. Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, etc. That said, I only see it as him describe his “suspect” when he pulled him over. No different if he had said “black male.” Unfortunately, this country has gotten to the laughable point where we can no longer call a black guy black without scrutiny by spineless, white turds with sticks up their asses. The type that reflexively apologize to people when they hold the door open for someone else and that person doesn’t thank them.
