NBA Draft - Trades - Free Agents

Yeah, that's a terrible decision by the Celtics to just dismiss Cousins out of hand. The Celtics need the help at Center.
If Stevens can handle players, he should be able to handle Cousins, especially because he should be able to learn from last year. And, if Stevens can't handle players, then he doesn't belong in the NBA.

Do not think this is a rush decision or judgement, Celtics finished a season with a malcontent, why choose to follow the same route and the same outcome.. the definition of insanity.

Low expectations exacts a price.. not only financially, but does anyone want him to come here and disrupt the team and whatever chemistry is left?? His behavior has pretty much left him as an NBA pariah who has already lost millions in lost income and probably more unless he makes some huge changes..

So now LA has all that cap space and no max player to give it to. (If the Toronto reports are correct.)

Golden state really screwed things up with that Russell sign and trade. He was the obvious choice after kawhi.
Fu*k Lebron!
Why is it that so much heaven and earth need be moved to get this guy his “entitled” rings?
16 NBA seasons
4 teams (Cleveland twice)
3 rings

Yeah, I’m a hater but it’s not my fault.
When he tagged himself “King” ...my gag reflex kicked in.

Everytime LeBron earns my respect as a player he does something (like shut down his 2018 season ) to erode it.

Make no mistake- his Diva-meter is off the charts

It’s been 5 years since cousins has played 60 games in a season....for that reason alone, the fact that you can’t count him on being there and be effective come playoff time is reason enough to bypass him.....

I’m excited to see time lord take the next step

Because he is (or has been) a transcendent talent, teams largely put up with it.

The problem is the example he sets to young, not-so-mature very talented young players. One player in particular was extremely talented, and evidently thought he had the same type of transcendent talent and basketball on court genius as LeBron, so he learned from the best at Cleveland next to him on how to be the same type of diva, but without anywhere close to Lebron’s talent. Eventually he decided to become “the next LeBron” ( in his mind) at Boston, and we all know how that ended.

According to reports, Cousins' behavior was much better in N.O. and G.S. than it was with the Kings. And it's his injuries, combined with the lack of contending teams with cap space, holding him back in terms of money and employment.

It's incompetence for the Celtics to rule him out without at least bringing him in for a conversation first because, right now, the Celtics 4+5 positions are a hope at best. You're not going to end up paying Cousins so much money that you can't cut his ass if he gets to be too much of a problem. If Stevens can't handle that, after his failure to handle his locker room last year, maybe Stevens isn't cut out for the NBA.

Your obvious attempt to prove (once again) that you are smarter than everyone else, and your anti-Ainge animus blind you to the obvious reasons why the C's chose to give Kantor the mid-level money instead of going after Cousins.

Here are LIKELY the reasons why the C's didn't move on Cousins (btw- note that I admit I don't KNOW the actual reasons, since I haven't been party to any of the discussions on this topic. You would be wise to note this, since in your posts, you make it seem like you know for a fact what is happening. Just sayin'

1. It's all about the money.....and timing.

Cousins is waiting. Waiting it out for more lucrative offers that will likely be coming from others, including the Lakers. Why settle for $5MM/yr short term when you will get multiple offers in the $10MM/yr range from others.

Now it might end up that Cousin's is being overly optimistic about his chances of getting a better deal, but it doesn't hurt him to wait and see, and the C's didn't have the time to wait. They had to move on someone and Kantor was available, but only for a short time.

2. All the myriad reasons that have been given by so many about Cousins' non-talent factors, like injuries, attitude, etc. All things that could have been overlooked if they could have quickly signed him to a mid level short term deal and assuming he would be thrilled to come here. It would have been a low risk, high reward kind of signing. But between the money and the timing it was never a realistic option.

So in the end, I doubt very much that Danny simply dismissed Cousins as you imply. The very logical thought process that would bring one to see that Cousins wasn't really a realistic option should have been clear to you. It wasn't "incompetence", it was common sense.

So far, this the quote of 2019.

Why? It's not as if that notion hasn't been brought up by any number of posters or pundits. Not all coaches are cut out for all sports, or all leagues within the same sport. There's no shame in that. Nick Saban is a tremendous coach, yet he flamed out in Miami. I wouldn't want to be putting up with the sort of ******** that the NBA divas seem to thrive in, either.

Far from being a hot (or hawt) take, it's actually pretty mild.

That and Cousins has never been synonymous with the idea of success

It’s a really crappy Felger imitation

Stevens’ reputation was off the charts entering this year, and rightly so. He did amazing things in college, and got the Celtics to outperform expectations for several seasons. But the reality is this past year was the first year that genuine expectations were placed on him, and he failed. He didn’t fail on his own, and it certainly doesn’t mean that he can’t be a great coach in the NBA, but it’s not some wild take to suggest it. If I’m a betting man, I think he’s going to be a successful coach with the Celtics for years to come. Kyrie was a nightmare, but there’s no getting around the fact that Stevens was part of a significant failure this season.

Irving managed to splash a lot of mud around. Given the situation, I’m not sure there was anything the Cs could have done to have things end any better....There was no way around the Irving show....he toed a passive/aggressive line that contributed to the development of all young players to decline.

These divas are pathetic....the Leonard vigil is hilarious......I’ll watch the young guys, thanks

I get what you’re saying, but Toronto won a title..

Who knows. Irving was horrible for sure.

I have zero interest in Leonard .... never did since he was a jerk in SA .... championships are not worth watching @ssholes

Completely disagree. Watched all year : was great. He shut his yap and delivered. Exactly what a fan loves.

Maybe the SA situation was mishandled by both KL & the team...
