Your logic doesn't make sense. By this reasoning the Butler int still trumps this. NE stopped Seattle from not only tying the game. And an int was far more improbable than a catch and tackle. NE won by stopping Seattle and it was far more unlikely.

It would be nice if there was 3 categories, regular season, playoffs and Super Bowl because certain plays are going to matter more or less due to the circumstances.

My logic makes sense to me. It was a walk off play at the one yard line stopping a score. Improbability doesn’t really have anything to with it. The play was no more impactful if the rams intercepted it, game over either way.
But who cares, it’s an opinion, people have different opinions.

You're not getting it. If the Rams intercepted the ball in a manner that Butler did it wouldn't have been more impactful but it would have been a greater play. If it was lobbed right into the Rams waiting arms you get the same result but that doesn't mean it was an all time great play just like a routine tackle in that instance wouldn't be equal to a spectacular one in terms of greatness. An extra point in a dome can be a walk off play but who would argue that it was an all time great play?

Notwithstanding that it did not end the game, Tyree’s catch put a decade hold on the Pats being seen as the greatest dynasty and ended the perfect season. However, Butler’s INT paved the way for a run of 4 SB appearances and 3 wins in 5 years that left Brady as the undisputed GOAT. Without the INT, the last 4 years might have been very different.

All I care about is the Butler INT was the only one on this list that made literally jump and down screaming, shaking, rolling on the floor in euphoria. I've seen the Red Sox come back 0-3 to the Yankees and 29 other postseason wins from the Pats/Brady, including the greatest comeback in history. Not one moment in one of those games holds a candle to Butler's INT. (The very distant second place moment for me is Johnny Damon's grand slam to go up 6-0 in Game 7, followed by the Brady to Branch first quarter TD bomb to shut up the terrible towel waving idiots in 2004/05 AFCCG.)

James Harrison was an all-time great Patriot. I hope they retire his number and he gets elected to Pats HoF. I don’t remember which Super Bowl it was either, but probably one that ended in a duck boat parade, for sure <high fives other Pats fans while lone Steelers loser/fan speed dials pyschiatrist.>

In seriousness though, how can the entire Cardinals team, including speedster WRs, not be able to outrun and tackle a bumbling linebacker over a 100 yard distance??? That might be the biggest loser play of all-time, but props to Harrison.

Really good article, even if just used to compile candidates for best play. Since that article was written, I suspect only the Amendola 2pt play in SB51 swings a win expectancy enough to crack the list. Maybe the strip sack in SB52, too. It's very comprehensive despite being 4 years old.

What the article really captures is how Butler's pick is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to swinging a game. We're talking Secretariat at The Belmont type stuff.

If one of the categories used in judging best play is "best YouTube reaction videos, fans of both teams", then Butler's pick wins that category in a landslide.

Nah, Lynch was never running it in, IMO.

Pre-Butler-Int-Snap...Wilfork was PRIMED to not let the Seahawks gain an inch on the ground...and we were also in goal line D too..

It wasn’t a bad playcall by any means. That’s one of the safest plays in terms of turnover likelihood / not losing yardage / clock management.

I was thinking a Wilson bootleg and it’s over. He could always throw it away, and with a mobile QB I think that was the best call. Second best call was the pick slant or something like that. It wasn’t a bad playcall by any means. That’s one of the safest plays in terms of turnover likelihood / not losing yardage / clock management.

And it was a good play call too....the Seahawks had to pass in that situation with only 1 TO left and 3 downs to play.

Yup, probably should have been a bootleg...or at least a low throw.....Wilson never saw Butler....neither did Lockette as well... that was a great jam by Browner who is in jail now.

Ricardo Lockett never played again, IIRC.......same with David Tyree.....interesting....

Also, Bevell is now the OC in Detroit....which is interesting to me....

The operative word being almost, life is too short to be so serious. You can rest assured, even if it was a bit before your time, everyone that gave it a positive rating remembers. They also remember he came on in relief of an injured Brady against Pittsburgh in the AFCCG. Had he been permanently injured we wouldn't make light of it.

I watched the game, it was not before my time.

I’m aware he stepped in for Brady as well in the AFCCG and took another big hit that had people holding their breath. Bledsoe had some major clutch throws in that game.

I think it’s an overrated play as Brady was going to play eventually anyway. I just don’t like the choice because he was close to dying.
