My logic makes sense to me. It was a walk off play at the one yard line stopping a score. Improbability doesn’t really have anything to with it. The play was no more impactful if the rams intercepted it, game over either way.Your logic doesn't make sense. By this reasoning the Butler int still trumps this. NE stopped Seattle from not only tying the game. And an int was far more improbable than a catch and tackle. NE won by stopping Seattle and it was far more unlikely.
.
I’ve been waiting for someone to mention that play. Definitely needs to be included, to battle recency bias at least....
Starr QB keeper in Ice Bowl with Kramer’s block
...
This was published in 2015, so obviously doesn't account for anything since, but it has, based on the swing in win expectancy, Butler's pick as by FAR the most impactful play in terms of influencing a team winning (or losing) the Super Bowl.

Do with it what you will. I can take a guess as to what you'll do with it.
It would be nice if there was 3 categories, regular season, playoffs and Super Bowl because certain plays are going to matter more or less due to the circumstances.
Butler's Interception
All-Time Patriots' Great James Harrison Interception return. I think he was playing for another team at the time, can't remember.
The Immaculate Reception
The Edelman Catch against the Falcons
The Edelman Catch against the Seahawks
The Catch
The Helmet Catch
IDK, there's just so many, rooting bias and recency bias really start to play into it.
Really good article, even if just used to compile candidates for best play. Since that article was written, I suspect only the Amendola 2pt play in SB51 swings a win expectancy enough to crack the list. Maybe the strip sack in SB52, too. Yup. If it was just Butler knocking down the ball then Lynch probably runs it in on the next play. He HAD to pick it.
Nah, Lynch was never running it in, IMO.
Pre-Butler-Int-Snap...Wilfork was PRIMED to not let the Seahawks gain an inch on the ground...and we were also in goal line D too..
I was thinking a Wilson bootleg and it’s over. He could always throw it away, and with a mobile QB I think that was the best call. Second best call was the pick slant or something like that. It wasn’t a bad playcall by any means. That’s one of the safest plays in terms of turnover likelihood / not losing yardage / clock management.
Kind of an odd choice given it almost killed Drew Bledsoe. He was coughing blood and had to be rushed to the hospital.

Do the posters that gave you positive ratings not remember either?
Brady was going to play eventually.
If it had killed him we would have a different opinion of it.Kind of an odd choice given it almost killed Drew Bledsoe. He was coughing blood and had to be rushed to the hospital.

I watched the game, it was not before my time. You can rest assured, even if it was a bit before your time,
I think it’s an overrated play as Brady was going to play eventually anyway. I just don’t like the choice because he was close to dying. If it had killed him we would have a different opinion of it.
Ax is it ushered in the greatest dynasty and QB of all time.
Should we not like the snow bowl because fans almost froze to death?
