2018-19 Stanley Cup - Bruins vs Blues

Street hockey league games at the "girls" recess yard at the Thomas J Kenny School in Dorchester MA baby!
Still had to chase the orange Phil & Tony Esposito-approved street hockey balls whenever they were shot through the iron fenceposts, unfortunately.
The orange street hockey ball was a must. If we didn't have one, then we would slice a tiny hole into a tennis ball...that was last resort though. I never really paid attention to it, but some of the orange balls were harder than others and really left a mark. Probably wasn't Phil and Tony approved though.

Did you ever have the kid that would buy the Mylek street hockey blade, heat it up and bend it into a half-circle? Every time he took a shot it would go over the fence three blocks down the street. I hated that kid.

I wonder why the other guy tearing off Krug's helmet seconds before and nothing happening there isn't up for debate?
Perron probably should've apologized to Thomas in the locker room after though...he was the reason he got laid out by Krug.

I really don't see the debate. He didn't leave his feel until after contact, the contact was shoulder to shoulder and he glided for a sufficient period (really much longer than required) so that it wasn't a charging call either.

If they're going to officiate the contact down to that line it's not even a contact sport any longer. I'm totally onboard with getting rid of the Todd Bertuzzi, Claude Lemieux, Dale Hunter type of cheap shots that used to go on but there are harder hits, by far, in lacrosse than that one these days. (I love LAX.)

Yep...If Thomas doesn't touch the puck, then Krug goes to the box...but he did, so Krug didn't.

If Thomas doesn't touch the puck, Krug doesn't touch him.

The divide in that snippet exists between the analysts/stat geeks and the guys that have actually played the game. It should come as no surprise the players all felt it was a clean hit. The best evidence of all was in the game itself, no one on the Blues beat the snot out of Krug despite the fact he is the smallest guy on either team.
The announcers had no doubt it was clean. Said so immediately. Too many people never watch hockey until the SCF and then think they are experts.

I think its pretty clear that the "leaving your feet" part of the charging rule is completely misunderstood by many.

I had the same argument on the CD Raleigh forum during the Bs-CBJ series when McAvoy hit happened.

People down here were arguing about "his skates are 6 inches off the ice!".

Once I explained to them that charging/feet leaving the ice is required in the initiation of the hit and not post hit; sports can do many things with their rules, eliminating our current understanding of Physics is not one of them, the complaints dried up.

I also take the opinion of a player over some desk jockey would never played the sport they cover in a professional manner. Treating Pierre LeBrun as the gospel is the same as putting any faith in what Michael Felger has to say about football.

If he is in position to play the puck, he can be hit.

By rule that's the case but the way things get called in today's game...

No and who cares if he was frustrated? You can't get 2 minutes for frustration.

Lets argue whether he intended to play the puck or not. It was essentially on Thomas' stick when Krug flattened him so no.

Lets argue if he was charging. He came in fast but was gliding to deliver the hit. No charging.

Lets argue if he was guilty of launching. He didn't leave his feet until after making contact. No launching.

It was a clean, devastating hit.

Case closed. On to Game 2.
I meant the guy mugging Krug should have got a penalty, Krugs hit was clean.

There was a great behind the play view showing Krug skating after Perron full speed, but the moment he saw Perron about to line change, he redirected to Thomas. Krug was pissed off, I'm sure, but he had the good sense to avoid the cheap shot on Perron and instead play the guy with the puck.

Regards,
Chris

Everyone and their mother cries about how "dirty" the Bruins are... Backes high sticking/hit when he's down, Krug mugging, this crap... crickets.

Can you imagine the outcray....if that were Marshmont?

Oh sorry. I misread your post.

Yep. Should have been a minor for interference but they aren't gonna call that.

Yeah we used to heat our new blades over the stove too, though I didn't bend mine to the extent my brother did. He was a Bobby Orr man and played left-handed defense, while I was an Esposito man and played left-handed centre, though I gradually switched from left-handed shooting to my more-natural right-handed shooting...but I loved the back-handed shot, which is far more effective on a straight blade, so my blade curve was never really pronounced.

Whenever we did see other kids with seriously-curved blades, they reminded us of one of Esposito's linemates at the time, Ken Hodge. Talk about a curve...his had to be only barely legal...and you're right, those shots that kids would take with them used to go all over the place.

We don't really know that...looked to me that Krug wanted to hit Somebody the way he skated down the ice.

Just a hockey play tho....

Yep...and Jaden Schwartz was also taking a Lot of liberties too...Zebras better lay down the law to the former goon Berube before puck-drop; otherwise the Blues will only escalate their cheap-ass stick-work.

I believe the NHL assigned Chris Rooney to tonight's game....that should bottle up anything the Bs may get sucked into....given his history with the Bs.

Also seeing rumors that TB12 was going to be the Honorary captain with the flag in the stands and Bettman said absolutely not.

Not going all Andy on this but Krug had the opportunity to illegally run Perron and Tarasenko but didn't. Seems as though if all he wanted to do was hit someone, regardless of doing it legally, he would have done it to either the guy that had just mugged him or the one that had previously speared him
