Realistic availability at #32

Out of curiosity, when was the last time we picked up a 5th year option? I don't have the time at the moment to look into it, but I imagine it's been a while.
Technically, Cooks two years ago not long after they traded for him.

Good call. That's the last one I can think of as well. Otherwise our first rounders either didn't pan out or were stolen from us. I'm not sure the 5th year is as valuable to us as it is to a team that may want to trade up for a specific position.

Yup. Since the 5th year option went into effect in 2011, potential 1st round options:
- 2011: drafted Solder, exercised it
- 2012: drafted Jones and Hightower, exercised it on both
- 2013: no first round pick, traded back
- 2014: drafted Easley, cut after year 2; acquired Cooks in 2017 and exercised on him
- 2015: drafted Brown, did not exercise. Acquired Dorsett in 2017 and did not exercise. Acquired Shelton in 2018 and also did not exercise

2016 first rounder was stolen and 2017 first rounder was traded for Cooks so nothing to exercise there. 2018 picks Wynn and Michel are only current people on roster who could be exercised, and that can’t be done until after 2020.

Interesting ranking via Bob McGinn. Makes me think AJ could be there at 32 and Deebo at 56.

Having said that, I wonder how far Boykin and Hardman make it into the 3rd.
Good.

I've gotta disagree with you on Deebo. He's one of the best WR prospects in this year's draft and if we get him in the 2nd round could end up one of the steals of the draft. Yes, he's a great kick returner but that's about all he has in common with Patterson.

Deebo is an excellent route runner and what sets him apart from his peers is his excellent YAC ability. He has the potential to turn a simple slant into a touchdown because of his elusiveness in the open field after the catch. In a system like the Pats where Brady loves to dink and dunk, Deebo could make some serious bread living off those short routes that he extends for extra YAC.

Take a look at these clips and tell me he wouldn't be a great fit in our system, where those short routes are the bread and butter of our offense. And last but not least those hands, how bout dem 1 handed grabs?

Like I said I'm in the vast minority. I have taken a look at his tape and I just don't see it, minus the hands which are great.

If they take him I hope you're right. I would rather take Brown in the first or Isabella in the second.

George Kittle was just talking about how Fant owns records in the weight room at Iowa.

I alot has to do w who's throwing the ball as well. Stanley was just awful at times. Struggling to complete 15 passes. Balls in the dirt regularly. Tons off target.

Sad bc I loved Stanley coming into the year but my goodness was he bad.

Idk I think people are still sleeping on Fant. 21 yo rookie who runs a real 4.5 at 250. Ive also seen him carry defenders for yards down field.

The fan in me is rooting for this trade and it's exactly what they did to get Daniel Graham. I have a feeling he's off the board at 21. I've come to think they're trading down from #32 but with 12 picks they could use two to pick up Fant and still have a lot of ammo to fill in the other needs. I still think they're trading down from 32 but you never know.

It isn't a matter of faith. Gordon was on the squad in 2018 and helped a lot when he was available. I expect the same this year.

Perhaps we will need to choose between Dorsett and Gordon for the 53. I don't expect that to be the case, but we'll see. I like Dorsett, but Josh and Tom didn't have much faith in him last year.

In any case, if healthy, Thomas is likely to be more likely to be the #2 than either Gordon or Dorsett.
I don't know the backstory on Dorsett. I believed that most of the time he was never a number 1 or 2 option. Once in a while a jet sweep or quick out but most of his catches were when Tom had time to look for someone other than Gronk or Edelman. Not saying he shouldn't have looked for them first, just one way for explaining lack of production for Dorsett. The Hogan before Dorsett is somewhat inexpicable unless Hogan's blocking was markedly superior to Dorsett. I thought Dorsett blocked well when I observed him. If Thomas performs all is well. Besides, I liked Bam Childress and Brian Tyms, so we know my evaluation is suspect.

I watched this mock at Rotoworld and it’s as entertaining a video mock draft as I’ve seen. It fearures Chris Simms, Josh Norris and another guy but it’s two hours long and really goes into detail on each pick. Very informative and I really like a lot of the picks (although the Pats pick wasn’t great - see spoiler below). I thoroughly recommend it if you have the time. It certainly gives you an idea of who might be available at 32.

Haven't had a chance to watch, and wouldn't be my first choice, but that could be considered
a redo of the Easley pick
.

Realistically we need speed and size at the wide receiver position. Preferably a true number 1 receiver. Edelman is the slot guy and Dorsett/draft pick could be number 2.

Problem is this draft is very light on #1 receivers. It is pack full of #2 and #3 receivers.

A trade for the bengals green solves so many issues for us. Now it is up to bb to sweet talk the bengals.

Even if there were #1 receivers they would go too early for us to get them.

There will be 1-3 WR's chosen in the 31. The question is where we evaluate what's available, and how much we would lose in value in waiting or trading down. The same is true of TE's (only 2-3 in the case of TE's).

I think the only WRs possibly who could go in the first round are:

DK Metcalf
Hollywood Brown
AJ Brown
Hakeem Butler
Parris Campbell

N’Keal Harry has an outside chance. Apparently the Seahawks are very interested.
