Agreed.

If you are including Ellington and Harris, perhaps Berrios should be included as a possible #5 WR.

I was just making that list out of players who've already established themselves as NFL players. Harris has 3 NFL seasons, so it's fair to think that he's at least competitive for an NFL WR5 position. Ellington and Dorsett have shown that they can at least compete for WR3/WR4 spots. Thomas, Gordon, and Edelman have shown that they are (or at least were) WR1/WR2 level.

Seems like Bill learned his lesson from foolishly doling out $400k guaranteed to Reggie Wayne who didn't even be here long enough to find the nearest Dunkin Donuts.
He just foolishly doled out AT LEAST $300K to this broken-down Donkey, so I don't see where Bill learned his lesson here, unfortunately.

P.S.: This guy won't actually get paid if/when he starts the season on the PUP, will he?

You know I love your posts, but this is just terrible trolling on your part.

Maybe best contract of the entire FA period but of course you call it foolish. It doesnt get any more low risk, high reward than that. Seriously what is your issue with throwing pocket change like 300k against the wall to see if you can get an upgrade on Hogan out of this ?

Nothing was said about a split contract so far so if he is not released by W1 he will get his game check even on PUP but his base salary will only become fully guaranteed once he has been on the 53 for a game day (i.e. activated from PUP). At least that is my understanding.

If he goes on PUP it'll cost him HUGE as he will miss out on some base $, some per game roster $ and most likely all of the incentives.

I went back to watch his games in Houston. Turns out his demise is greatly exaggerated. In fact, I'll go on record: he's going to have the best season of any free agent WR the Patriots have signed this decade.

Then make it clear next time. It sounded like you were making a sarcastic response to @TheFlyingWedge
I received 66 PMs indicating it was clear to those individuals and just one (yours) indicating some confusion. I don't know what else to tell you...

Lol @ anyone counting on Gordon this year. Even if his suspension is lifted for some portion of the season how long will he last?

It's low risk for a position of need for a player that has previously been top 10 and has peak monetary and career motivation. At worst it's a relatively cheap gamble that fails.

I suspect DT will be an asset though 80+ catches would seem too much for even my own Patriots colored glasses to see.

Terrible trolling or is it comedy gold? It's a fine line...

Captain knows enough about football that there's no way he believes his nonsense about this contract. He's trolling, which is fine, since he usually does a good job of that. He just did it on a contract that's so painless to the team that his trolling here is trolling failure on a level that must make TennisBallHead jealous.

Wrong! I read on the Internet he's washed up and on his way to retirement. That's all the proof I need :)

Understood. In my prev. reply I was being sarcastic for entertainment purposes -- or attempt at entertainment purposes -- with little deeper meaning intended.
(I don't read widely enough of posters to know too much about Stone's ways other than he is the voice of 'it'll go wrong', a role someone should always fill to help keep things a bit grounded. Now TennisBallHead?? Other than apparently his name is appropriate based on your explanation :) I'm drawing a blank)

So I neglected to look into the specifics of his deal, and feel not quite as bad about it now. But I still say an Achilles rupture that just happened in December makes this not the best move - without that injury and where the injury is, it would be a solid pickup. With the injury it just feels like gambling. But I have zero SBs to my credit, so there's that.

It's a fair concern: what's his health status?
But given the need at the position, given the player's demonstrated capability and seemingly high incentive of motivation. given the relatively few dollars at risk, I'm at a loss as to how this signing is awful.

DT was a really good receiver. For relatively little we get to find out (whether due to lack of motivation, injury and/or age) if he's now just a good receiver, still is a really good receiver, is less than a good receiver, he's toast. So what's the argument against finding out what is DT's production capability in 2019 -- that this unknown yet potentially solid production is not worth < a percentage point of cap dollars?

I heard Lynn Stallworth has been working with a trainer and may make a comeback.
John Stallworth? Lynn Swann? Donte Stallworth?Sure, get 'em all in to camp. Hell, while we are at it, let's get Stanley Morgan and Irving Fryar. They gotta have a couple snaps in 'em.

I think this is a fine signing. He will start the year on PUP and be ready to go at thanksgiving. If he plays as well as he did last year for Bill O'brien for that period of time for the Pats for 2 mill I will be thrilled. With some experience with McDaniels and O'Brien's playbook some of the mental issues with the system are already addressed.

Having zero chemistry with TB (no practice and possibly missing early seasons games) not an issue as long as he knows his responsibilities and is where he should be. Having experience in similar play-calling offenses will help.
