Could Tackle Position Be A Priority In the Draft?

Anything's possible with BB. Having said that, I don't see any reason to make OT a draft priority, if they still think Wynn's ready to be the starting LT.

I wonder how much of it would be about depth. This is a deep WR and TE class, less so at OT. So get the tackle early and still upgrade at WR later (and let’s face it, it’s not exactly difficult to upgrade this WR corps. There’s also no guarantee that they will draft OT early, just that they’ve worked out a couple of linemen that are likely to go in the first two rounds. Doesn’t mean they’ll draft them.

Yeah, I just don't see why they would spend high-round capital to draft a developmental RT in a draft that can fill much more important needs. If it was for a LT out of a lack of certainty about Wynn, I'd absolutely understand it. But, in a draft where DL should be available, and TE/WR should be there in the 2nd and/or 3rd, it seems to me that the first 3-4 picks should be for that trio of positions (assuming no trades).

But it's BB, so we're probably all going to be wondering why the hell he drafted a fullback at #32.

I agree. But I also prefer the depth at WR than I do at OT. I’d be absolutely fine with AJ Brown, Deebo or N’Keal Harry early but then I’d be fine with a Stanley Morgan Jnr in the 3rd too. No WR is likely to make that significant contribution this year regardless of where they’re drafted. My point is, with so many picks, they’ve got options.

For me, after Dl/TE/WR, the next group of needs (LB, OL, S) is more about depth or development, unless they're expecting to let Thuney walk, so the order addressed (and the corresponding capital outlay) isn't as important, IMO, and I'm not looking at OL at the top. For Manxman, he's got OT in that first group, rather than the second, at least partly because of how he's reading the board. I see his point. But he's also acknowledging those other positions as important areas to address. So, while there's no way I'd put OT above those positions, I don't see it as a problem if they're going OT with one of their 3rd round picks. And, at that point, we're also all trying to read the leaves on availability of potential, as opposed to having wildly divergent points of view on the baseline question.

manman that is not a rule some WR's have made decent Rookie Impact recently: the position haven't been a total embarrassment. The Patriots are hoping the ones they Draft make some sort of impact. Love the WR's you mentioned please don't forget Riley Ridley I like him a lot. His clone brother made an Impact last year.

There’s plenty of WR I like. Ridley is one as is Terry McLaurin and Jalen Hurd. I have reservations about Isabella and Boykin but see the upside and then there’s Emmanuel Hall, Slayton and Arecega-Whiteside that interest me to one degree or another. But that’s the point. There’s so much depth at WR, I do think there’s scope to be patient. But then, I can also see the argument for a Harry, Butler or Brown early.

Watch the first half of the title game and how badly he abused Payne of Alabama. Don’t look for it in the second half, Payne has had enough and played the opposite side most of the rest of the game.

Of course tackle will be in play, obviously depending on the players they like. They currently have a guy who has never played a down in the NFL, coming off of serious injury as their LT. The right side is manned by a guy who has battled some injury issues of his own. The swing tackle position saw their guy bolt in free agency.

I can't decide if Wynn is the ideal OT or a poor fit for the Patriots. I don't think the shortness is a problem. It might actually be his saving grace because the Patriots tend to prefer bigger guys at OT that can move people off the ball. However, Wynn being shorter allows him to get better leverage and accomplish this just as well.

That's a mighty big If, from our perspective at least. From Bill's perspective, perhaps less so. He certainly hasn't bothered to improve the position during the off-season, that's for sure.
Look at it this way: we've lost 3/4 of our Offensive Tackle group from merely 2 seasons ago, with only a virtual rookie returning from a Major ankle injury as a replacement. To me, that screams Day 2 Priority, if practicable.

Well the good news is that at least the labrum shouldn't be at the top of his injury worries now.

Look at it this way: we've lost 3/4 of our Offensive Tackle group from merely 2 seasons ago, with only a virtual rookie returning from a Major ankle injury as a replacement. To me, that screams Day 2 Priority, if practicable.

And they picked up last year's starting LT in a late trade. To me, that screams "they'll find someone if they think they have a need". Also, it's not as if the likes of Waddle aren't relatively easy to find, so I'm not going to be losing any sleep over the backup OT spot.

I'm much more inclined to worry about the lack of a 2nd quick-open receiver.
