TE Dwayne Allen released

As an all round tight end, Allen was a dismal failure. He was a good blocker
but had the grand total of 13 catches in two years.

You forgot the One bobbled TD against Denver and Von Miller. I am sure Allan will use that as leverage in FA.

maybe we are planning to make gronk focus on blocking more, pretty much taking more of Allen's role while producing in passing game more than Allen, and get a more pass catching TE (prob through draft) to take the hits and learn from Gronk, and get better at blocking

Hopefully Hoch or Fant.

Whatever happens we need more receiving options it can’t just be Gronk and Edelman. Every team wants to improve so we can’t be stagnant just because we won the super bowl. With our free agents plus the uncertainty at wr, keeping Allen at 7mill just isn’t a positive move on offense. 3 -4 million for his blocking would help us.

Please email Belichick immediately with the name. If he had someone who could block as well as Allan, and could learn our offense quickly, Belichick would pay him 3-4 million in heartbeat.

BB released him so there is likely already a plan in action. It wouldn’t surprise me if Allen comes back with a smaller cap hit.

He was released because for 7mill he needs to catch some ball too.

I don't know who you are trying to convince that he is not worth 7m because everyone on the planet knew that Allen would have never entered September on that contract.

He didn't get released because of his cap hit but because the team and him could not agree on a number in a new contract. Again, both sides knew that those mythical 7m would have never seen the light of day no matter what.

Yes Allen would have been invited back at the right dollar.

What we disagree on is how high of a number the Patriots would go, and how much would be guaranteed.

How much is too much for what Allen brings to the table?

4 million? 4.5? 5?

If they bring him back, what should be be paid?

A few people in this thread think he is worth that much. Your numbers are more realistic.

Here a new contract for a top-tier “blocking“ TE that never caught for a TD (unlike Allen):

Maybe this can put things in perspective for the “overpaid“, “easily replaceable“ crowd here (but i doubt it)..

Looking at the guarantees it is somewhere in the ballpark of what Allen was making last year. I guess my estimation of 2.5-3m base doesn't really reflect the market. Looking at Boyle I guess its closer to 3-3.5m plus incentives..

Since he will remain top “blocking“ TE option on the market (that has a decent history of receiving not to forget) it could go higher than that esp. with reportedly 5 teams (NE incl.) already very interested..

Gee I hope not better options in the Draft like BC's Tommy Sweeney or LSU's Foster Moreau.

Dwayne Allen will Not be offered a Nick Boyle contract, by anyone.

Dunno man....for 3/18...I want some catches for that kind of money.
