I was totally bogged down with work until 4:30 and have some catching up to do.

Human traffickers are indeed scum. I am not saying that being a "John" is a great thing, but I also don't see how a customer is automatically supposed to know the circumstances by which the "help" came into this line of work. Kraft would still be guilty of solicitation, nothing more.

Yeah, that's fair. I think it gets a bit more complicated than that in that this place exhibited basically every red flag in the book, to the point that I have trouble drawing a distinction between knowing and not caring enough to notice.

I get Thai massages every month at a place where the workers clearly aren't native English speakers, at a similar price point type of establishment (the place I go to is more expensive, but I also live in California where everything is more expensive). But they can speak English, and I've never solicited and would never accept anything 'extra' from them. I know them by name and talk to them in passing - if they couldn't speak English I would view that as a huge red flag in its own right with or without any 'extras' being on the table, and if one was to offer me anything 'extra' I would immediately view that offer with intense suspicion and consider that they may be trafficked. I have a hard time excusing Kraft for not exhibiting such a basic, obvious degree of concern and/or give-a-**** about such an extreme epidemic.

Because the prostitutes in question appear to be human trafficking victims. This whole sting started based on a tip from the Department of Health based on complaints that the women were living at the spa and cooking out back because they weren't allowed to leave.

So.....lemme get this straight. Health dept gets a tip about women living in spa. They report this to police. Police investigate and find out this is a sex business and that yes, there are women being held there. Police go into business, inform business they will be setting up cameras. Police then ALLOW these women who are slaves to proceed to perform sexual acts for money, while they film, over the course of weeks with several patrons? Am I reading this right?

"Hey we know you're being victimized here, but indulge us please. We need to embarrass some of these patrons to make this hurt a little. You've been doing this for a while now, so what's another few weeks of slavedom?"

That is INSANE. The right thing to do would have been to get to the core of the human trafficking element. That could have easily been done without allowing these women to be exploited even further over the course of months WHILE BEING FILMED during said exploitation. When you consider Kraft may even get away with this, you then understand how tragic it was for the police to allow these women to continue to be defiled over months while they slap a few wrists in the community for doing what's perfectly legal in certain areas of the U.S.

They're trying to embarrass the hell out of the patrons. The idea is by doing so, they discourage future patrons from patronizing other like businesses that may pop up in the future. That said, they're doing so at the expense of several months of continued sexual exploitation ON FILM, which is supposedly what they were trying to stop in the first place. There's no good reason these women should have been used in such a manner by the local authorities. If I am reading this correctly, the way this was handled was truly tragic.
