OT: Jump Ball Joe Flacco to the Broncos

They're both pretty mediocre . . . :eek::D

Those stats include keenums early years which were rough. Flacco’s okay fell off a cliff 4 years ago.

I don't think this is a terrible move. I guess I am in the minority.

Flacco has had a similar career to Eli. Below average every single regular season but have had some post season success. Flacco's 2012 post season was exceptional but since then he has been a train wreck.

That he was. That’s what the broncos thought they were paying for.
Flacco’s last 4 years:
24-27
64/46 td/int
9.9 yards per completion.

He is awful.

The funny thing about Flacco is that his 2018 stats were basically just his career average numbers. He was just what he always was. It's actually kind of uncanny how completely normal he was in the season he got benched.

Code:
Year Age Cmp% TD% Int% Y/A AY/A Y/C Y/G Rate NY/A ANY/A Sk%
2018 33 61.2 3.2 1.6 6.5 6.4 10.6 273.9 84.2 6.04 5.96 4.1
Care Care 61.7 3.7 2.4 6.7 6.4 10.9 234.6 84.1 5.98 5.66 5.5
While this is kind of funny, this doesn't really do Flacco's incompetence justice.

In 2009, Flacco put up an 88.9 passer rating on 7.2 Y/A. In 2009, the league average was 83.0 and 7.0.

In 2018, Flacco put up an 84.2 passer rating on 6.5 Y/A. Last year, the league average was 92.9 and 7.4.

The league has seen an offensive explosion in the past few years, with quarterback play at historic highs, thanks in large part to offensive players being coddled. Flacco's numbers plateauing doesn't mean he's the same as he always ways, it means that in spite of QB play being easier he's become worse.

He's 34 next year. I hate Keenum, but I hate Flacco even more. Terrible decision by Denver.

He’s always been the same, at least in the regular season. He’s a bad quarterback. The only thing that changed is the defense got worse and these 10-6 “clutch wins” became 24-10 ugly losses. His passer rating has stayed consistent. People overrated him early in his caree. A lot of these stats like laughably low yards per attempt have always been there.

It’s gotten worse though.

Insanity, in my opinion Flacco is marginally worse, a fourth round pick? I could see if it’s like a sixth or seventh and he’s cheap but to pay him 17 and another 4 to cut Keenum...wow. They couldn’t have gotten Carr for the same price?

It's a lateral move, at best, and they'll be spending more money.

I'm not so sure about terrible, necessarily. Hilarious, absolutely.

The Raiders aren't trading him to Denver.

Very strange that they are taking the backend of Flacco's contract. Wouldn't be surprised if a restructure is coming.

Oh and that's cool how Baltimore is putting their hopes on Lamar Jackson.

I think Baltimore “lost” in the sense too that they’ve hitched their wagon to Lamar Jackson and honestly I think he’s not the star they’re expecting him to be

Unless they renegotiate his contract I really have no idea what the Broncos are doing. Flacco has typically been a top 20ish type regular season QB. He did step it up in the post season but the Broncos do not appear to be a playoff team so I do not get it. Replacing Keenum seems to be about a wash in my perspective.
Agreed. Joe's value has always been in the playoffs, but it's hard to see the Broncos in the post-season with the Chiefs and Chargers in the same division.

Many will compare this to the jimmy G situation but Baltimore knew that Joe Flacco could not compete on a championship level anymore. If he could I’m sure they wouldn’t have traded him. The only thing is, he’s a much better passer than Jackson.

Just terrible. Jump Ball Joe is finished. Worst thing the nfl ever did for him was modify the PI rules. He’s below average and I’m glad the Donkeys have him and I’m glad the Ratbirds are all in in Jackson now.

Lose Lose is our win.
