The draft

100% agree on Murray

My ''problem'' is that i would like to ''test'' the young man before giving him a big contract you know? Like Jimmy, dude plays 7 games and break the bank.

I would love Fromm next year tho.

I would not mind to take a QB on he #1 round as i said i don't see a lot of blue chips in this draft, but i see a lot of good players. I think all #1 round talent will be long gone and we would reach for a QB using our #1 pick.

Round 1 Pick 32: Harry, NKeal, WR, Arizona State
Who would you take here assuming that Murray and Jones are gone?
Round 2 Pick 24: Hockenson, T.J., TE, Iowa
Round 2 Pick 32: Omenihu, Charles, DE, Texas
Round 3 Pick 9: Stidham, Jarrett, QB, Auburn
Round 3 Pick : Hodge, Kalhil, ILB, Buffalo
Round 3 Pick: Beckner Jr, Terry, DT, Missouri
Round 4 Pick 32: Biadasz, Tyler, C, Wisconsin

I like the N'Keal Harry pick, but I'd be shocked if he was there at 32. Hockenson is a great pick, but I doubt he'd be there at 56. I like the rest of the picks as well. My dream would be

1) Noah Fant TE, Iowa
2) Best QB or WR available
2) Torn here, defense or if we go WR with the earlier pick, get the best QB available.

I'm a big Will Grier fan, he's a warrior, has a quick release, similar size to Garappolo, but a better arm IMO. I'd love to wind up with him, and his receiver David Sills.

I remember last year everyone thought he wanted to draft Lamar Jackson. After seeing that wild card playoff game, I’m glad we didn’t. He can’t pass
Because we all know he's a finished product, and will never improve. Just like Sony Michel, a bunch of you were complaining that it was a horrible pick, a wasted pick, such a dumb move, etc. How about we give Jackson another year or 2 before we call him a bust.

Some injury news which may, or may not, impact the Patriots FA/drafting priorities:

Patrick Chung is scheduled for surgery tomorrow on his broken forearm, per source. Then in about three weeks, he’ll have shoulder surgery to clean up an issue he played through for most of the season. Due to the shoulder recovery, he’ll likely miss all of OTAs and return in camp.

The issue with Michel is durability due to injury. The issue with Jackson is his ability to function at all as a QB at the NFL level. That's a world of difference.

I will be shocked if BB takes a QB high on the board. I will continue to say that the QB of the future is on this list: 2020 NFL Free Agents Tracker

I think filling Tom's shoes is gonna suck. Media and fans are gonna expect whoever it is to be great. Huge, towering expectations. I think they will sign one of those guys to a 3-4 year deal and draft a kid after that.

The Franchise of the future is likely in his senior year of HS, a PG year at prep school or a red shirt freshman in college. I just think they recognize the guy who follows Tom has to climb a mountain that is likely not going to be scaled. Bring in a guy like Mariota, Dak Prescott or Nick Foles and let him be the caretaker of the position for a few years before the Next Big Thing walks in the door on Route 1.

I really really hope he does that or grab a WR (AJ Brown). This class is more about depth IMO than blue chips.

QB 1st tier: Murray Daniel Jones and Hawskins

2nd tier: Grier Fitzgerald Drew Lock T. Jackson Thorson Stidham Ryan Finley

3rd group: McSorley Rypien Justice

I would use a late 4th to grab any one of this guys, they are not the answer and Brady is playing 2 or 3 more years.
I envision McSorley as an Edelman-esque project converting him to WR. He has speed and open field running but not the size or build to be an NFL QB....

NFL network predicted we would take Kyler Murray with the 32nd. I think he’s way too undersized for the nfl. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to the MLB instead. If a rookie contract is 4 years, you can take a qb because in 4 years brady will be 45. Could just do a repeat of the Favre to Rodgers torch pass.
Hes 5-9 or 5-10 i wouldn't take him in the first rnd way to small for the nfl as a starting qb.

Likely so ^^^ (1st a transitional guy who has been in the NFL and THEN Johnny Foxboro) but it won't be fun.

Hockenson is a great pick, but I doubt he'd be there at 56.
Kiper has him going at #19, but I’ve seen him as high as #8 on one of the NFL network projections. He certainly isn’t going to be around at #32, let alone #56.

???

They made a trade up last year, for Dawson. Belichick trades up, trades down, and trades out. I'm waiting for him to try trading sideways.
The Patriots are in a pretty good situation with several promising guys from the 2018 draft class coming back to go with their 2019 picks. OL Wynn, LB Bentley, LB Sam, WR-KR Berrios, TE Izzo all come back on their 2nd year deals. If Dawson and Crossen can contribute in the secondary, the 2018 class could have real value. The big unknown right now is who stays. It's hard to determine draft needs until the retirements are announced, and the FA signings are complete.

I'm on record as liking the idea of trading some of the picks, in order to get an extra 1st round pick next year. Given preliminary notions of what the QB class will look like next year compared to this year, it makes sense to me.

Trade down. Get more picks. Try to hit on more than half of them and you win.

The two players I’m most interested in seeing next season are Wynn & Bentley. I think both have the potential to be solid contributors.

We’re already going to have like 12 picks once the comp picks are handed out

How tough ? Really ? The confetti was falling THIS week. Over our players.

Reid was a draft binky of mine. I was almost certain he'd be our long term McCourty replacement (of course, I thought the same thing about Eddie Jackson the year he came out). So, I can understand that seeing him last as long as he did in the draft, but now playing like a potential franchise FS, is a little bittersweet. I wanted him here, as did many others.

It's not about replacing the players we do have for this year, but about prep for the future. I hope Obi and Dawson can show enough next year that we aren't left in the lurch if there are major injuries. I really like Harmon, but I think we need more safeties in the pipeline.

Chung won't last forever, either. I'd like to see Jonathan Abram here as an understudy.

Was gonna mention Abram when deus posted about Chung. He'd be a great understudy.

Just talking abt Bush as a gamer. Abram is another guy that eats, breaths, sleeps football. Id love to see him or Edwards here.

True, but it would be nice to have that young safety already in the mix with our current group.

He'll trade #32 into the 2020 draft

He does that every year. They just don't bother announcing it.
