i seen him make one cut, but that was it. Strange gameplan from the Rams, looked like they thought they could use the same gameplan they used all year against us... Strange strange

His body language said to me “zero confidence.” Now whether that’s from injury or some sort of mental health issue I have no idea, but all his swag is gone. So something is going on with the guy. Hope he figures it out, he is a great player when healthy.

Mind-Control-Gate

That’s what the texting was about, subliminal suggestion “bench Gurley, bench Gurley, bench Gurley” was embedded in each of those texts ( 3rd letter of each word technique), McVay still can’t figure out why he did it.

Belichick is one crafty motherf*cker!

Gurley didn't look good side-to-ide at all - I noticed that, too.

Also, Romo showed multiple times how the teams flowing with the Rams OL were getting gashed, but those going straight ahead between the gaps were having great success in stopping the run.

PS. Danny Shelton was really good yesterday - he's been pretty solid since he came back from healthy scratch. I hope he comes back for the right money. Brown, too.

In the OP I said he may be the best RB of his era.

I don't believe that anymore, due to this game. Even though he was hurt, he still had to step up, and as you say the mental component might have prevented him from doing that (not sure it's a mental health issue, just an involuntary, natural hesitancy to put his body at risk). But great players need to overcome that -- look at Owens in SB39, for example.

Running backs have a short shelf life and unless he pulls a Terrell Davis in the next two Super Bowls, Gurley's not going to be able to overcome the damage from this game. Saquon Barkley is ready to grab that "best of the era" title away from Gurley.

It's like Tomlinson's mystery injury where he sat on the bench while Rivers played through an ACL injury against us in the playoffs all over again. So weird.

I wasn’t suggesting that is for sure a mental heath issue. I am just saying his demeanor is so drastically different it’s like he is not even the same person. The rams insist he is healthy, so that leaves some sort of mental aspect. It very well could be fear of further injury like you suggested. At this point I am just saying something has got into his head, and or he is seriously hurt and the rams were lying on the injury report.

He was hurt.

He was hurt.

then shouldnt the rams be in trouble for leaving him off the report? I think thats the mystery.

everyone including the report is saying hes healthy, but then he is a no-show. Either the Rams are lying on the report, or Gurley went from superstar to bum overnight.

Nothing wrong with Gurley. He was the fastest player on the field yesterday according to the metric that measures this officially. Stop insinuating your gee gee gaa gaa goony "fantasy" expectations on reality. He was who he is. Pats won. Pats are the better team.

I agree pats were the better team. But you don't find it odd that a guy who was the teams workhorse earlier in the year and a near-MVP cantidate was a no-show in biggest 2 games of the season and was essentially benched for a guy who was out of the league a few weeks ago in CJ anderson?

Something might be wrong with the guy mentally. He did struggle last season after a tremendous rookie season

Gurley had a bad sophomore season. He was great in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

My theory: I think once Gurley got hurt and CJ came in and ripped of 2 straight 100yd games McVay kinda fell in love with him. Additionally I think Gurley got tweaked by how McVay was favoring CJ and had his head up his ass in the NO game. He played awful. As McVay said they went into SB 53 with the intent of playing both Gurley and CJ. Net-net combination of CJ playing well and McVay liking his running style and Gurley kinda losing his focus and/or sulking.

They ended up playing Gurley 66% of the snaps:

Is Adrian Peterson part of this era or the last one? Not trying to knock your opinion, but I think there’s a huge difference between Peterson and Gurley (or anyone else.). Peterson in his prime could run on anyone, including against stacked boxes. Gurley is very good, but I see him at the same skill level as a bunch of other players. He is very dependent on the passing game and play action, as was apparent during his down season in 2016.

Yep. Not sure McVay meant carries. Either way he was either full of crap or the Pats shut down the run and because of his versatility in the passing game Gurley played more.

A total mystery...

Gurley got "Butlered"

Bill Barnwell's guest on his post-SB podcast Monday said his inside sources tell him Gurley's problem is with his head, not his body. Barnwell incredulously asked, "You mean he had the yips?" They didn't dwell on it long and moved onto other topics, but I sat there thinking this is quite a story if true. Anyway, inside sources could mean anything, including nothing, so who knows.

Regards,
Chris

I got two disagrees without explanation. You two people think the Pats WEREN'T the best team on the field Super Bowl Sunday? I'm just fascinated with what the possible rebuttal could be. The Gurley statement is ONE HUNDRED PER CENT FACT. If you are arguing THAT you are plainly ignorant.
