2018 Offensive Line discussion

If trent brown is that good, why did SF unload him?
You’d have to ask SF, but I suspect that’s a sensitive question for them these days...

Re-reading some of this thread reminded me, Mason’s contract is up after this year, so maybe the ideal 2019 o line will have Brown extending at LT and Wynn moving inside to replace Mason. Seems to me that would be a decent foundation moving forward. Here’s hoping Brown is affordable enough for that to work!

49ers lost a ton of good talent after Harbaugh left. It's like asking why the Raiders let Mack or Cooper go

Mason was extended in August, after this thread had died down.

Missed that.

Even better, Wynn would certainly be an upgrade for Cannon or Thuney if we can keep Brown. Probably better for him to move inside and replace Thuney, as Cannon does seem to have improved with time.

I agree Trent Brown is a great player and would be nice to keep. An elite pass blocker and now seemingly a good run blocker under Dante too. Zero sacks in the playoffs by this OLine is impressive

Thuney is a monster that never missed a game and did not give a single pressure last game, how can Wynn be better than this?

Wynn hasn’t even played and has already torn his Achilles.

Saw some graphic the other day, cannot find it now, that Thuney was rating out higher than Shaq Mason..

Here is what I do know about this group:

Aside from the #12 kneeldown there were no negative plays against KC...
In the past two playoff games, 0 sacks and only two knockdowns for #12...

Scar?? Talent?? Desire of players to play well on the big stage?? Probably a combination of all three..

It is Suh and Donald for the Super Bowl, so the OLine will have their hands full. I am guessing a quick passing game, off right tackle runs, jet sweeps, screens, etc. We will stay out of the middle this game - Sony might not play as much.

I believe it's the article in the thread I started recently about Brown where he kind of lashes out at SF. Apparently, there have been issues about his weight and motivation in the past. He's all in here, and Dante is an inspiration but it will be an issue if they're talking about long term.

Best outcome IMO:

Trent Brown sign for a long term deal
Keep Wynn as a backup for one year as a ST
Trade Cannon next year
Extend Thuney and Karras

Trent B - Thuney - Andrews - Mason - Cannon

Wynn learn to be a RT and can fill for LT and LG
Karas can be our backup C and RG
And you find another gem later in this upcoming draft G/T

Next year they trade Cannon for a 3rd and Wynn take over

if the offensive line can impose its will on the Defense like they have the past two playoff games then brady will be hoisting #6.

you can tell they really love getting out there and blocking guys.

If Brown signs a big contract elsewhere, the Pats will get a 3rd round comp pick. So big cap hit plus loss of a 3rd round draft pick may be too much for the Pats to give up to sign Brown.

OTOH, Brown seems to be really happy and prospering with NE and the coaching, so maybe he'll take a discount? Not likely, but it happens once in a blue moon.

And I don't think Cannon will be worth much in a trade after another year of wear and tear. He'll be over 30, and has missed considerable portions of the last two years due to injury.
