Going to the Super Bowl

I learned my lesson before SB 51...if you want to go, you need to book early. I booked Minneapolis hotel rooms a year ahead (cheap), but canceled b/c tix were selling for $5k a week before the game. I also booked Atlanta a year ahead. This time we are going and will take our chances. At worst we will watch the game in a bar and be there with other fans when they win. Go Pats!
I didn’t even have the option of canceling the hotel rooms out in ARZ. They made you pay in full ahead of time, so people couldn’t do exactly what you’re suggesting. They cover their asses.

I was actually forced to find another Pats fan that was going and transfer our rooms to him after he had PayPal’ed us the cost. It was actually someone here who doesn’t frequent the site too often, but I don’t remember who. Luckily, it all worked out in the end; otherwise, we’d have been out like 700 bucks or something.

I’m just pointing to the fact that all of the prices around a one hour circumference of the city will almost certainly be jacked way up.

When I had hotel rooms for the one in Phoenix, I believe that we were going to save a fair amount of money by staying at a hotel that was approx. 90 mins from the venue. Since airfare won’t be a concern, you don’t need to worry, but I’m guessing that flights to ATL will be much higher than say, other parts of Georgia, where you could reasonably rent a car and finish the trip via driving instead of flying into ATL directly.

Very interesting idea to fly into a different place and rent the car from there. Will certainly explore that option too. Thanks!

The hotel in Minny actually called me a month before the SB. They wanted to sell the room I had booked with points. That room was a good distance away from the stadium. The room I have in Atlanta is very close to the stadium. If we choose not to go I have no doubt I can unload that room. I might even make money off of it.

Only a G6? You poor pauper. At least you’ll leave plenty of ramp space for our 757. And I’ll have our purser send over some Bernaise sauce in case your filet is a bit dry, since I doubt you’ll be able to spring for the Kobe wagyu.

Of course, I have Jeeves gassing up the G6 as we speak.. Hmm lobster or filet? Why not both?

I tried to go to SB 49 (live in CA). I drove and crashed a friend's pad in AZ. Ticket prices skyrocketed so I didn't go.

For SB 51, I paid four figures for two nosebleed seats. And managed to get the cheapest flights, a good rental deal from Dallas, and stayed at a crappy hotel 40 miles away. Worth every penny....BUT had we lost, I dunno....

However, both times I enjoyed the atmosphere....very electrifying.....

Wins tend to be electrifying...:D

I have been to 6 super bowls without a ticket and made it in twice paying just $100 over face.

You aint getting a ticket unless youre there. Gas is the lowest that its been for years. Drive so you dont need to rent a car or pay for a flight.
Explain how you got in for 100

Tickets cost the amount of a car

I have a friend who does this all the time. Basically, walk around with some serious cash and wait until the game kicks off and find a scalper who has dropped his price....

Currently a single ticket is going for $3925 through Ticketmaster.

That's a far cry from the cost of a car..

If I may—I’d recommend booking the hotel rooms and possibly even flights a couple of hours away, and renting a car to drive to the stadium.

That alone would save you a fair amount.

Done!!

I found r/t airfare for $200 from NJ - departing Sat and returning Tue (prepared to take two days off) and booked them.

I took your idea and looked for hotels a bit further away. Found a highly rated Radisson in town about 30 miles from the stadium and booked it.

Me and my lady for now. We will certainly a rent a car for the trip.

And now for the tix, hehehe.

We have been dreaming about wanting to do this for the last few SBs and kept saying next time. Luckily have some cash to splurge and the Pats punched their way in.

If the tix are too expensive on the game day, we are content to watch the game in some bar with other Patsfans.

Holy Cow ! I am so friggin thrilled and excited!!

THANKS FOR THE TIPS SUPAFLY!

Between my Brothers and my father we've been to 96, 01, 03, 04, 07, and 16. Hopefully we can make it work again this year.

We tried to go to the SuperBowl in AZ -- We walked around the stadium for hours and the only pair of tickets that we saw sold for 13k. This was when ticket sites sold a bunch of tickets they never had -- there were tons of people at the stadium that had their tickets revoked hours before the game. Crazy...

I will be attending. On the couch, right in front of my 50" t.v. :D

I hear you bro.

At a different stage in my life, I too faced the harsh reality of studying and working in the Boston area and wondering where the heck the money went and if it is worth slogging there. In fact, @ one stage, I decided to save the $10+$3 I spent back then @ the barbers by trimming my hair myself. Glad that I was/am too average looking not to be bothered.

Lucky that times have been good to me since then. I can now afford to go the barber, but my hairline is now receding. :D
