I urge you all to do everything in your power to attend. Its more than just the game. NFL mardis gras atmosphere with lots going on that does not cost a dime. Explore Atlanta. They have virtually everything. I used to live there.

So, my CPAs wife called me Friday night. Turns out that my CPA was diagnosed with cancer this past May and passed away last Monday. I had no idea since i only see him around tax season. Healthy guy about 55 years young did not smoke or drink. I should be dead and not him. His 80 year old father is still alive and in decent health.

If youre sick or dead you cannot go. Just go.

“I urge you to do anything you can to go” followed by a story about your Certified Public Accountant isn’t super inspiring. People have bills to pay, family to care for, and monthly incomes that don’t add up to a hotdog at a concession stand at the Super Bowl. Understand privilege.

What privilege?

I slept in the back of my truck and took showers at a truck stop at 1 super bowl. Yes, I have the privilege of looking for creative ways to have a good time in lieu of blaming someone else.

Dang! What a tragic story on your CPA. Feel terrible for his dad, and the family he left behind.

I fully hear you on the urge to go out and enjoy life and celebrate. For it is only when we read or unfortunately experience such tragic happenings to our near and dear do we realize that life is fleeting and hence best to make the most of it when the heart still lusts, the body still functions, and the wallet still absorbs this hit ;)

I plan to check the prices and go if tix are not astronomically high.

You want me to toss 5 figures for a football game?

And i got to factor taking my girlfriend also, although she offered to contribute.

but 5 figures...hmm....

I gotta come back to this thread later tomorrow and then decide once the effect of these endorphins wear off. :D

Of course, I have Jeeves gassing up the G6 as we speak.. Hmm lobster or filet? Why not both?

I have been to 6 super bowls without a ticket and made it in twice paying just $100 over face.

You aint getting a ticket unless youre there. Gas is the lowest that its been for years. Drive so you dont need to rent a car or pay for a flight.

I’m guessing that the OP was aimed at those who may be on the fence about whether or not they should attend.

Unfortunately, for most of us, this does not apply due to the extraordinary cost.

What is “just 100 over face” these days? Don’t have the funds to go, but curious nonetheless.

Just being there is memorable.

I didn't always get a ticket. Im not paying 5k for a ticket, but prices may drop because LA likely wont travel like NOLA.

Wait... this is music to my ears...well, eyes.

Not going to hope that I could also be as lucky as you to pay only $100 over face but curious about your strategy and would appreciate any guidance please.

Did you buy the tix on game day on those 6 SBs?

From someone at the stadium or online?

Hopefully the tix on the other 4 SBs didn't cost you an arm.

Thanks,

I get what you’re saying, man. While I share the same problem as those who can’t go due to having other financial responsibilities, I respect the point that you’re making.

I came close in SB49 vs SEA. Had hotel rooms reserved and everything. Tix ended up being a bit higher than expected and airfare was a *****. Within a few days we realized that it just wasn’t going to be something that we could afford, and that we were “off” by several thousand dollars. We had a dog that was diagnosed with cancer the day before the BAL game in the divisional round, a couple of weeks earlier, so priorities had changed. That’s the closest I’ll probably ever get.

Thanks,
If I may—I’d recommend booking the hotel rooms and possibly even flights a couple of hours away, and renting a car to drive to the stadium.

That alone would save you a fair amount.

Thanks a lot!

By couple of hours away you mean from now or before the game?

If we pull the trigger, we (four of us) will likely drive down.

I’m going to Atlanta; not sure about the game. Lots of folks go for the atmosphere. Triumph is right - it’s awesome!

I learned my lesson before SB 51...if you want to go, you need to book early. I booked Minneapolis hotel rooms a year ahead (cheap), but canceled b/c tix were selling for $5k a week before the game. I also booked Atlanta a year ahead. This time we are going and will take our chances. At worst we will watch the game in a bar and be there with other fans when they win. Go Pats!

I’m just pointing to the fact that all of the prices around a one hour circumference of the city will almost certainly be jacked way up.

When I had hotel rooms for the one in Phoenix, I believe that we were going to save a fair amount of money by staying at a hotel that was approx. 90 mins from the venue. Since airfare won’t be a concern, you don’t need to worry, but I’m guessing that flights to ATL will be much higher than say, other parts of Georgia, where you could reasonably rent a car and finish the trip via driving instead of flying into ATL directly.
