There are numerous threads and topics on the AFCCG but not one on the NFCCG (unless I missed it). Just wanted to start this to know what the thoughts are on Saints vs Rams match up and predictions rest of the way.

My thoughts:

While Saints are a very good home team, they can be contained. They struggled right from the get go against Eagles in the divisional round. Brees’ interception on the first part of the game gave Eagles momentum right away. Saints already beat Rams in a shootout once at home but if they start slow or turn the ball over early, Rams won’t let up.

While home field certainly helps the Saints, I don’t think their defense is entirely capable of shutting down Rams. McVay is a creative play caller and knows how to get the best from his guys. Most, if not all of their losses, were due to poor performance by Goff. On the defensive side for Rams, the have many big name players, but, aside from D-line I am not sure their overall defense is that good. They need to get off the field and give Goff as many chances as they can to score.

I do not know too much about match ups, schemes, Xs and Os and so on. I’d appreciate if anyone can post in detail what match up are favorable for each team.

As for the best Superbowl match up, I think Saints vs Pats makes for a great match up. Two of the great football minds going at it. Lot of story lines to go with this match up. Also, it’ll be nice to see Brees and Payton win a second ring.

Rams are a young team and are definitely capable of being back on this stage. For that reason, I would like to see Pats vs Saints in Superbowl. Also, McVay is only 33. So he has plenty of time to win :D

Your thoughts ?

Brees is a pocket passer with little threat to extend plays with his legs. Since our secondary is a strength of our defense this season I’ll tske my chances against him.

Any Patriots fan not rooting for the Saints should have their fan card revoked. I don't even care if it's a worse potential matchup for the Patriots.

If Rams and Patriots make it.. it will be third time in 6 months Boston fans will be chanting beat LA... ! (Dodgers, chargers... ) Ironically started in Celtics playoffs.. (Lakers.)

3rd time's a charm..

Before Rankins got injured I was ambivalent. But now please give me the defense that doesn't have Aaron Donald on the interior.

If we get to play the Saints this year it might be the least close SB of the Brady/BB era.

Pats always make it close in SB. It doesn't matter if they play the Cardinals or someone of that caliber :D

Would rather play the Saints. Brees is not a mobile QB and Gillmore can shutdown Thomas.

The Rams have the best player in the league in Aaron Donald. He can take over a game more than any other defensive player and Suh playing great lately

Huh? I'm a patriots fan not a saints fan. How does this make sense? Your last sentence is especially bizarre. I respect the saints but the patriots winning trumps any respect I have for another team.

IF Pats win and IF they win big, will they be the favourites in Superbowl?

Ofcourse, the likes of Max Kellerman, Shannon Sharpe will still find a way to discredit Pats because Chargers had to travel cross country twice in two weeks and how inexperienced first year starter Mahomes is.

i dont think the rams have much of a chance in NOLA, saints started slow because they hadn't played meaningful football in some weeks and were facing the defending champs playing their best ball of the year

Also, why wouldn't you want arguably the two best QBs and arguably the two best HCs in the NFL in a SB we've never seen before?

I've always considered the Saints one of my favorite non-Patriots teams since they stuck it to Peyton, but I think Brees has also become Peyton lately with all the record celebration stuff so it's harder to root for them now. Plus, I always find myself rooting for the underdog in games not involving the Pats.

Guess the only thing I'll be rooting for is a good game. The more favorable matchup for the Pats (which may not even matter) is New Orleans. Both teams can be beaten and both teams can dominate.

As for the outcome of the game itself, I expect the Rams to put up a much stronger fight this time and both defenses to play better. Something like 23-20 LA.

They (Rams) are loaded up front. Their coach is like Peterson (Who torched the Pats in the SB). I'd take NO as the better match up. Rams have a scrambling QB too. We struggle with those players.

There are a few threads on this that got buried somehow...

Rams vs Saints: Who do we root for? (poll)

OT - Rams @ Saints thoughts
The rams would be a MUCH tougher match up for patriots. They have a punishing run game and can stop the run with those great DL. That is not a good formula for patriots to win. I will be rooting for Saints because:

1) I hate Suh
2) I like Brees and Mark Ingram
3) Marcus Peters is obnoxious
4) Its an LA team, have to root against them, its part of Boston DNA
5) Rams would hvae a better chance to beat Pats in SB

Difficult game to predict imho...

50-50...

Both are good teams

I say fifty fifty as game is @ No...
So it is a compliment to Lar at the end

I do not want go further as also Kc-Ne is for me real 50-50

The best 4 are in this year

Goodell would be booed by everyone no matter who wins :)

I've given a bunch of reasons why I would prefer the Saints. Let me go over a few.

#1 I personally like the Saints. They handle business in the right way. I don't hear about scummy guys on that team that stick around

#2 They have a passionate but rational fan base which isn't full of irrational Patriots haters. They wish they were us but they don't hate us for it compared to other fan bases.

#3 Brees' legacy has been unfairly crapped on to elevate Peyton's and a Patriot fans who've seen that happen with Brady (until he completely blew Peyton out of the water ) can sympathize. Every excuse people make about Peyton (and some still do) can ACTUALLY be made for Brees. Only now is he starting to get the respect he deserves. If the Patriots can't win I badly want the Saints to so Brees can get #2 and cement himself in the top 10 and above Peyton where he belongs IMO.

#4 It would be a better match up for the Patriots. While I think the Rams are a slightly worse team the Saints are the more conventional team. The Patriots play better vs more predictable teams and the Saints are pretty straight forward in their play style.

#5 It is the better historical match up. Brady vs Brees? That would be the best QB match up ever in a superbowl IMO. Montana/Marino Favre/Elway Peyton/Brees Montana/Elway. Some were stinkers but some were among the best SBs ever.

The "beat LA" chant started during a Celts playoff loss to the Sixers.
