B.G.C. 2019 NFL Draft/Patriot-Type Players Thread

That’s slightly concerning!
Yea not great. There was talk about him not getting the most out of the talent he had to work w but this is pretty bad. Looks like he needs elite talent or he can't compete or comeback

It’s such a big contrast it’s concerning to say the least

@BaconGrundleCandy: Reading here (2019 NFL Mock Draft: Raiders snag Quinnen Williams, three quarterbacks go in the top 11) that two Clemson DTs might go late in the first round. They have Christian Wilkins going to the Pats at 29 and then Dexter Lawrence going to the Chiefs at 31.

Lawrence, obviously, is having some issues, but if you could choose which player the Pats should take, which guy would you prefer they draft (if they had the choice)? And why?
Between those two? Wilkins. I'm slightly hesitant bc he doesn't have great length or power. Not sure either will be 1st rd guys for me. I like him a lil better though. Love his motor & versatility. Not great quickness but good enough to cause problems. Not sure he's a 2 gapper though. Again he doesn't have long arms & might get swallowed up in the run game. He's a fun player in college I'm sure how much success he has next level.

I like Dex as well but again projecting I'm not sure I see a RD1 guy. He's not the athlete we made him out to be at his weight & really should be around 315-325. I don't see a game changer at his position. I'd advise him to lose 15-30 & play Browns position to really take advantage of his strengths which is his physicality. He's too inconsistent to bully people around as it is & that's his weight imo.

@BaconGrundleCandy

What can you tell me about a couple injury specials in Dante Booker and Charles Wright?
Man not tbh. I know I loved the way both moved before injuries. Esp Booker. He flew around & looked like he belonged mentioned w Lee, Shaz etc. Great athlete. Both were but both kinda mysterious cases? Wright looked liked a future top 50-60 pick at in 2017. He was everywhere. Got hurt, came back, got hurt & went home last I heard?

Yea neither will have a lot of tape. Esp Booker. Again strange case, he never saw the field. Looks like interviews will be huge to see how they are upstairs & testing to see if they still have that juice.

Wright seems like a good kid as far as I can tell. I think he flew home for personal reasons, but it sounds like he left on okay terms? I haven't been able to figure out much more.

When people talk about OL not being ready for the league the biggest gripe as I understand it is this type of stuff. Most OL can only do this or that. Most nowadays place in space so much the los work gets but on the back burner. Back in the day guys were tasked w performing multiple tasks on a given play & Williams has done that throughout his time at Bama.

Had a feeling he'd go this way. He'll be a 1st Rd pick, pay back the money & look to make more money at the QB position. Probably not the way I'd go but it's now or never for football so I get it.

Word is the Cards are looking to move Rosen so they can take him #1 overall. I'd take Murray in a second on this team and let him develop behind Brady.

I wouldn't mind it at all. Posted a week or so ago about height & if it really matters once you're under a certain #. Like is it a huge difference between 6'1 & 5'9 besides the obvious.

Anyway I wouldn't be shocked to see either happen. KK has the juice for the time being.

@BaconGrundleCandy You may want to look at Drafttek Latest mock for us...

Another thing about Kyler Murray, is he legit?

Belichick questioned whether Tim Tebow could survive in the NFL running the way he did in college. So my guess is he won't see Murray as viable.

It's especially hard to take his offensive output at face value, since defense in the Big XII is, well, mostly optional. (He averaged 70% completion rates, but against Alabama was barely 50%.)

Legit, rn, no. He's an unbelievable athlete that looks to have some smarts considering that O didn't miss a beat & dare I say better at times? Academic honors in 2017.

You draft him on potential. Sit him & teach him. I'm not worried at him taking shots until I see #'s that back up it's a problem. "Running QB's" aren't more likely to get hurt.

You sit him & teach. Let him watch how you do it as a pro QB. The time you put in. What's really important for him.

He has serious arm talemt. Hes legit deep & sidelines for sure. Looks like a baseball player w the energy he generates w his hips. Drops in buckets type stuff. Curry from 35. Has to work on anticipation or maybe trusting himself more on some intermediate stuff but he's not bad there. Arm is real, small improvements in different areas on the field imo.
Too often his reads are predetermined by either him or the offense. Hopefully it's a lil of both, I have a feeling it is. Anyway he has to get better at going through, identifying & letting go of the ball. In less the 3 seconds no less most of the time. That'll be tough bc it looks like he's always, subtly moving himself into a better position bc of his height & sometimes that just won't be there next level.

Like Jackson, Darnold & Allen, Murray has to wait & develop. Foolish to play them early but they're not drafted that early to sit nowadays I guess.

I don't think it was Tebow's running but lack of passing that let him down.

That may well be, but he actually questioned whether you could safely have "your QB"—even one built like Tebow—run 10 times a game.

I understand & have heard/read the same. Studies have shown "running QB's" aren't more likely to get hurt though.

Brought him up last year around the draft. I think he makes a nice career for himself. Great rr, hands, production & toughness. Definitely one of my favorite slot options this year. If you haven't watched him definitely do so.

Check out the release, forces speed turn which will get you killed next level. Does a great job of stacking & shielding off the defender. Vg concentration.

This shows up often

Thompson coming back hurts this S class a lot more than Davis to the IDL class. Testing would have been huge for Thompson considering he had a few stinkers & long speed might not be as great as I thought. Would have guessed 4.44-4.50 but again who knows.

Adderley gets a huge bump. Get to know him. Just plays w that fire you want in all aspects. Looks like a natural ball hawk on anything deep. I think he could be an interchangeable piece playing SAF/Box. His aggressiveness & tackling are proper. Takes vg angles, vg play speed gives him the range you want. Looks like he's always running away from someone, again has that game day juice. That & his recognition skills are probably his best assets imo. He's a former CB & it shows everywhere. Esp at the catch point. Idk I see a guy that could be brought along slowly at first but the more experience & acclimation he gets to next level will only confirm he's the real deal. Think he's a big winner at the SR Bowl. If he test well & I think he will, he'll be a top 40 player. He looks very smooth in coverage/transition, no signs of stiffness. Hoping he runs in the range I had DT down for. Somewhere 4.4-4.5.
