I know the schedule hasn't been released yet, so I don't expect anyone to know the date, but my wife and I were thinking of making the trip to Foxborough to see the Patriots vs. Steelers game next season (She's a Steelers fan. I know I know, it'll look odd with me in Patriots gear and her in Steelers gear walking hand-in-hand into the stadium lol). We'd be coming from western PA via car, so it's about an 8 hour drive and we'd make it into a long weekend.

I've never been to an NFL game before (she's been to about 3 Steelers games at various venues) and I have a few questions for you guys. We're not looking to spend a ton, so when and where should we look at tickets? What's a fairly cheap place to sit at Gillette? Will she take a lot of abuse if she wears Steelers apparel? (I mean I rib her, and the light-hearted stuff is totally fine, but if it gets mean or cruel, it's not very funny/enjoyable) What are some cheaper (but still somewhat decent) hotels in the area?

Any suggestions are helpful, thanks! :)

The more expensive the ticket the more civilized fans in my experience.

Ive never been to Gillette but usually buy off ebay a month previous for road games.

I would absolutely recommend the upper level somewhere from the 30 to the 30. You can see more from up high and the seats are cheaper.

She'll get chirped, but there won't be anything physical or overly hostile. Also having you there may help

If you're not looking to spend a ton, upper level is your only option. You can see ok from up there. The prices may still be high. I go through craigslist but that has its inherent risks

I’m guessing that she’ll be just fine. Chicks wearing opposing colors aren’t treated nearly the same.

Just out of curiosity, why didn’t you attend the game in Pittsburgh any of the last 3 years? @WHPats

Could be. I do have this distinct memory that I thought was hilarious though lol. 2014 (2015) divisional game vs ravens, the Jules to dola one. Everyone is going crazy after the win. This girl (probly in her 20s) in a Flacco Jersey is just crying. I hear her say “I didn’t play in the game! Why is everyone yelling at me?”
So uh, I’ve seen women get chirped too. I’d think most would have thicker skin than this one

Opposing fans are generally left alone as long as they don't act like arses

My wife rocked her Cowboys gear down to Heinz field and we didn’t have any issues whatsoever. On the other hand, I’d get razzed hard as hell for going to the games vs NE with any kind of Pats gear on.

Of course, it helps when your team wins, so that’s generally been a bonus. Personally, I stopped wearing my Pats gear just bc I felt like it painted an unnecessary target on my back and I didn’t feel like hearing it from rabid, drunk Steeler fans. For whatever reason, they didn’t mess with her, though. You’d kind of have to be a bit of a douche to tease a chick, in my opinion, although I can see a snowball effect like your example with the Flacco jersey.

Eh, if you’re gonna tease a guy wearing opposite jerseys, wouldn’t not teasing chicks imply you don’t think they can take it? Why not treat everyone like football fans :)
I guess that gets into a different conversation though... truth is I don’t really tease anyone at the game unless they’re being loud first. Would rather enjoy the game myself and with other pats fans than make it about the losing fans

Yeah I could see that approach to not wearing pats gear elsewhere. I’ve worn it to games @Jets on multiple occasions, but like 30% of the stadium is pats fans so that may be a little different. There are some stadiums I think I’d avoid doing that at

In 2015, we dated long distance, and had actually broken up that summer for about a month and got back together the day of the season opener against Pittsburgh. Couldn’t have gone that year as I was still living in the Midwest. 2016, game was in Pittsburgh but we were living in South Carolina, too far. 2017, we were visiting friends of my wife’s that weekend out near Philly, so no dice. This past year I had to work that Sunday :/

Is Pittsburgh not the Midwest?

I’d say it’s considered Mid-Atlantic. I’m from Iowa (originally Canadian) and was still living there at the time. For me, Midwest kind of stops with anything east of Ohio. Wikipedia lists the following states as being part of the Midwest...The Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

Technically you're definitely correct. I was just messing with you the way I mess with my old college roommate who's from the Burgh.

Oh my bad lol. My wife and I have definitely talked about what region PA is apart of but those discussions go nowhere. Thought I should look it up

I live in Central PA (Altoona area) and I came up for the 2015 Week 1 Steelers vs Patriots game for the banner raising. I usually buy my tickets via stubhub or ebay and I think they were around $220/each for 200 level corner endzone seats. I booked my hotel the night of Super Bowl 49 and was able to get a room for $200 a night at the Courtyard Boston Foxborough/Mansfield. But hotel rooms might be hard to come by once the schedule is announced. Also, make sure you give yourself a couple of extra hours when coming up for a game. My buddy and I left at 8am and barely made the 8pm kickoff due to traffic on Route 1.

Altoona huh? That's cool I live in Johnstown! That's all outstanding advice, thank you!!!

Actually I grew up in the Cresson area now live in Tyrone. If you ever want to meet up and watch a game shoot me a message. It would be nice to watch a game and not be the only Patriots fan. Lol

Ever hear of Edenborn PA? My grandparents had a small farm there that I visited around 1960. My mom grew up there.
