Back about a month or so, I decided to self-ban myself from Boston sports radio...

I listen via the WEEI app, but not usually live. I listen to the interviews each week with Brady, Belichick, player interviews, along with Bruschi, Curran, etc. The on-demand audio makes it easy to get the important stuff and skip the rest. Get the stuff that matters and then move on with my life ;)

Those people aren't telling us anything we don't already know about the Pats weaknesses & the Chargers strengths. Perhaps the Chargers are indeed an overall superior team, but I still prefer to face them than the Murderer-Worshippers of Bal'more. 2009 & 2012 would've been brought up all week long. Besides, by all rights this game should be for the AFC Championship.

Exactly same thing I do. I don’t live in Boston so I can’t listen live. Gerry Callahan is a Pats and Brady homer. I listen to his show here and there, but always the Brady interview.

I like Fauria. He gives some good insight. A few weeks ago when everyone thought the sky was falling he was on and said after reviewing tape he thought this team still had Super Bowl potential. He said all the errors were correctable and teaching points from Belichick and he felt a lot better about the team after watching the tape. It was good insight from a former player, especially when everyone else was saying this team was done.

The “shock jock” thing has infected sports media as a whole. It started with sports radio and slowly trickled into TV. ESPN and FS1 are polluted with sock puppets spouting off their hot takes and knee jerk reactions. Whatever they just saw was the greatest or the worst game/performance/player of all time. They say things they can’t possibly believe and then soundbites and video clips of their ridiculous declarations are splattered all over social media for people to react to. Sports media is no longer about analysis, it’s about building a brand. You need to be known as the guy who hates Lebron, or loves Tebow or whatever hot take you screamed about long enough to have associated with your own name. That way when whomever you’ve hitched your wagon to messes up or wins people immediately tweet you and say “you were right” or “you’re an idiot!” It’s hard to watch but what used to be just Skip Bayless and Screamin’ A Smith has now devolved into Shannon Sharpe, Max Kellerman, Cris Carter, Jason Whitlock, Colin Cowherd and countless others.

I have to point out that Boston sports media has only gotten worse every year since you quit.

If this is causal, then it is very selfish of you, given the (two dozen or so) other people who listen regularly for whom the product would be better with your presence. Some of them are women and children, probably!

This momentous life choice turned out to be everything I hoped it could be... a soothing balm of non-negativity. Day after day completely devoid of idiot jocks trolling us fans and bashing Brady, BB, the offense, the defense... I just spent time on this wonderful site, and, you know, actually watching the games. :)

Today, I briefly lost my mind, paused my radio ban and tuned in Blowhard with Squeaky and the Douche on 98.5.

First words out of Blowhard's mouth were, 'the Chargers are better passing than the Pats... better running... better on defense... and MAYBE the Pats have a SLIGHT edge on special teams. The Patriots will need TWO special teams or defensive scores to win this game.'

And just like that... the Boston sports radio ban is back.

This time, though...

PERMA-ban. ;)

I can’t help but listen to felger and the rest of the ninnies on that show as well as the morons call in to them

They have sold out to be waiting for the fall......tonite they all agreed they would trade bb to the Browns for 3 1st rounders......

It would be one thing if the ahh er 'on air personalities had insightful comments but in Boston at least its all about getting ratings through bashing the teams, its absured.
It's strange to me how Bostonians like to think of themselves as being smaaaht but so many haven't figured out that the BS talk radio hosts are just winding them up (to use a UK expression).

How hard is it to figure out that the Felgers of this world don't actually have to analyze anything if all they have to do is dump as much negativity as they can muster, knowing that it'll massively trigger their audience?

Not so smaaaaht after all...

I've been getting all my sports info from web sites (like this one!) and from podcasts for at least the last four years, and I have no interest in wasting my time on BS sports talk ever again.

Sports radio doesn't trigger me. I enjoy it. Fauria is great. Who cares if they're blowhards? I enjoy the back and forth and when callers straighten them out. In October Mazz was saying the Red Sox had no chance vs NYY and it was enjoyable to watch him be massively wrong.

This stuff used to bother me a lot more when we sucked but since the 2 decade run of decedance among all 4 major teams I could care less what anyone says. In fact I bathe in the tears of Patriots and Brady haters in entertainment media and on social media. Its laughable to deny his GOAT status at this point, and so easy to refute or laugh at.

Every thing you need to know or even not know is right here on Patsfans.

How do you not know that???

Great googly moogly.

At one time (in the mid ninties) sports radio was pretty good. There was eei, the score in RI, and a show out of worchester that featured tanguy. Although i use to hate when eddie andelman came on, most of the time he would talk about trips to resturants, casinos, and toll both workers. But back then there was none of this negative, trash your, your team crap.

One thing I forgot to mention - WEEI is now on the Radio.com App. Had a couple ask, so I figured I should clarify that here for those who want to be able to access it. On demand audio is available there as well with all the things I mentioned ;)

I stopped listening/watching most sports shows awhile ago. Not because what they say triggers me, I just genuinely don't care or value their opinions. Rather I agree or disagree with what they say.

Dale and Keefe were my last hope and, as I wrote today in another thread, even their negativity this morning caused me to go to music. A sports city and region such as this one deserves far, far better. By and large, sports talk radio and the local sports TV shows are embarrassingly bad.

Well, I’m in Nashville and listen to WEEI daily. I hate country music and the sports talk radio here is terrible. I mean, terrible. So maybe I’m in the minority, but I enjoy it most of the time. 98.5 the hub on the other hand, wow, it’s like they HATE the Pats. I don’t listen to them.

No good hockey talk about the Predators?

I agree, and I've said this before, but listening to sports radio here on Long Guyland, almost all the NY sports radio guys actually are rooting for their teams.

Yeah I know rIght? Yeah, 102.5 does a good job covering the Preds, I’m just in Football mode still and I like to keep up with stuff daily this time of year. Last guy they had worth a damn down here for sports talk was Clay Travis, he was entertaining. Got the Bama faithful spun up constantly.

I'll never listen to Felger again, he was so giddy during deflategate it made me sick. He was in a state of ecstasy everyday. It's beyond just contrarian, he gets joy out of it all, you can here it in his voice. A day after SB 49 I heard he was doing a segment "what if we lost". just Why?

I don't mind Dale Keef, omf, Zo, they have vested interest and are at least rooting for the team. Felger has zero attachment to the team, nothing vested at all. If they lose so what? he'll talk about how they sucked, if they win? He can diminish it. He doesn't care either way.

So why do I want to listen to someone that doesn't really care? I don't and never will..

I'm not a country music fan here so I hear ya on that...but the wife is. Nashville is a great city.

Had a vacation over the summer and got to be friendly with a well-to-do couple from Nashville. Had drinks with him and such. He was a member of a CC down there. Forget the name. Anyway said Mike Fischer was the nicest guy you'd meet. Golf, have beers, Real down to earth guy.

Carrie Underwood.... c-word with a capital C. Snooty, stuck-up. Surprising how she grew up middle class.
