Thoughts on Sony Michel

I don’t mean to be rude either....

Sorry but I put 5.3 yards per carry with 10 total touchdowns vs 4.3 yards per carry with 5 total touchdowns more important than who has more first downs.

Do they give points for first downs or touchdowns?

*** Here is a stat for you.... *****

Chubb is averaging 4.5 yards per carry after contact which is #1 in the NFL.

Here is another one you may like....,

Saquan Barkley & Nick Chubb are Pro Football Focus’s 3rd and 5th highest rated rookie running backs since 2006.

Saquon Barkley, Nick Chubb off to impressive starts in the NFL | NFL Analysis | Pro Football Focus

I have yet to see a pro football focus article on which player lead the league on the most first downs on 2nd and two from midfield.
Hard to really make an argument that Michel is outplaying Chubb, but as I stated in my initial post, the committee approach is affecting Michel's numbers. In addition, Develin vulturing the goal line carries doesn't help which could be a couple more rushing TD's for Michel. He also missed a couple games as well.

I'd like to see them feature Michel more rather than giving him one carry and then trotting him off the field for White or Burkhead. Their offense becomes too predictable. The closer they get in the red zone is even worse.

Develin got the Vulture touchdowns because of Michels failures in short yardage situations.

Michel has had 20 more carries & 56 less yards than Chubb this season.

Chubb played behind Hyde the first half of the season, but he was amazing in limited action which forced Cleveland to trade Hyde.

3 attempts 105 yards & 2 touchdowns is impressive.

I'm a bit skeptical about the power rushing scheme with the fullback. Look at the Rams, whose success running the ball comes not because Gurley's a transcendent talent but because they spread the defense out and run it against a six man front on every play. I feel like Michel would be better if he had more room to run, and the Patriots don't want to give it to him.

Look at this article for what I mean: Todd Gurley Is In The Right System At The Right Time

I agree wholeheartedly. Not only would it improve Michel's running by providing him more space to operate, but it would also make their play-calling less predictable.

For all the love McDaniels gets, he often seems to telegraph the play (or set of plays) likely to be run by formation and personnel.

If Develin is in the game, it's likely to be a run, or a play-action pass attacking down the field. It's not particularly hard to game-plan for or defend.

More 2-3 WR, 1-2 TE, 1 RB sets from under center would be effective in my opinion. Likewise, using Michel in the shotgun, and utilizing him on runs from there (and not just White) would further improve the offense.

It does seem that they telegraph the types of plays they will be running based on formation and personnel.

Relative to his college highlights, Michel looks like he's added a considerable amount of weight, and I'm not-so-sure that's a good thing.

I think he has exhibited a lot of the positive traits he showed at Georgia, but he doesn't quite have the same athleticism, elusiveness, and explosiveness/"bounce" he had at Georgia.

I think it's less likely a matter of injury, and more likely a matter of excess weight, perhaps due to a combination of diet and weight-lifting.

You don't want him to get too small, but I think he could benefit from shedding a few pounds.

He had 3 for 105 against Oakland and 20 for 176 against Atlanta. He has no other 100 yard games this season and averages under 4 yards a carry in games other than those 2.

Develin is being used well. I wonder why they haven’t used him much in short yardage before. As for bolden, people might not like this, but I think he offers more than Burkhead. Great special teams player and can give our other backs a reliable break.

Hard to tell from one game. He had 1 carry prior to yesterday and he wasn't injured. Just looked like Miami, and Bolden in particular, were more motivated and they still needed a fluke [though practiced and well executed] play. Brady, Ghost and the defense in general let down at times, but had moments too [5 sacks, punt blocks].

Sony doesn't get those gaping Holes other RB's get on other Teams. It's like he's always fighting off the first tackler already in the hole. I know David Andrews is not the Biggest or Strongest Center in the League and Joe Thuney has had his moments both good and bad. We might need to upgrade the Interior in the Off season I wouldn't mind Wynn at LG and Draft a more Athletic Center Wynn and Mason would be something along our Interior.

We always have an undersized “technique” center who gets help from a guard. I think our last large center was Damien Woody.

Forgot all about him. What an odd guy he was.

Well Stork won and National Championship in College then a SB with Patriots.

Yep then he disappeared after the neck injury. Rumor was the local media hated him. I wonder if he was a pain in the ass.

Yeah but he did play in those games & Chubb put up those numbers, not Michel.

Chubb has twice as many touchdowns & averaged a complete yard better per carry.
5.3 for Chubb
4.3 for Michel

I have no idea how your post is relevant to what you quoted.

Rb’s are probably the easiest to find in the late rounds and udfa pool. Some rb’s that don’t time well will fall in the draft, but they can still run and follow blocks and pick up blitzes.

Terrell Davis, the kid we got from old miss. It’s all about scouting, heart and a little luck.
"We"?

Michel is fat, the other one is Chubb-y

He seems to be running very conservatively lately. Hes is loyal to his blockers to a fault.

With that said his ball security has been outstanding.

Overall he has had a very good rookie year.

I wouldn't say Sony's Rookie year is very good I would say good his game still have some warts.

What on earth is this thread? Is this like a satire or something?

Michel has been great; he's a clear bright spot on the offense and one reason for optimism that the Patriots do have some really solid young talent. It's like people are unable to see past one game, and the really wise ones can see all the way to two games ago.

Michel was stoned yesterday with this consistently stubborn, idiotic idea to continue running it between C/G, which was clogged again and again. On the sweeps they tried, he was picking up yardage. The playcalling has been crappy for a long, long time under skippy. He's only a "genius" when there's a wide open field (not in the red zone) and he has the greatest quarterback of all-time going through progressions. I can't recall more than a couple of plays this year where you've said wow, this guy was wide open and the defense was fooled. Did you see how miserably they failed early in the season with limited options?

I have no idea where this Michel criticism is coming from and appears to be out of frustration and wanting to b1tch about things. Turn the criticism to Josh McDaniels, who I think has gotten progressively worse, less creative, and way more predicable every season. This year, it's always a shotgun call or an incredibly obvious run that everyone knows is coming. Even the playaction doesn't even involve faking a hand-off, it's some half-assed body shift from Brady. Their runs are telegraphed and obvious. I don't know why Patterson isn't motioning on every play so the defense has to prepare for him getting the ball as well.

Their red zone package is truly an incredible thing to watch. It's either a run telegraphed from four light years away, or it's a package with Gronkowski (one red zone target in like the last 10 games), Gordon (zero red zone targets at all), Hogan (who cannot get any separation), and Edelman (the best option of that group who has never been a great red zone threat.) Is there any reason why Dorsett (who would be better as a shift red zone player than Hogan) and Patterson (whose big frame and speed makes him a good red zone threat on the ground) are on the bench, while the team chooses between an obvious run, throwing to a triple teamed White four yards short, or throwing to Hogan? Josh is really not a good coach. I don't know if he used to be, but for years now I've noticed a tremendous deterioration in the playcalling, in particular near the goal line, but also in general their running plays and screen passes.
