Miami’s Defense May Be Without Howard But the Focus Should Be on the Ground

Steve Balestrieri

Miami is currently 30th in the league in run defense, allowing 5.0 yards per carry and a whopping 144.7 yards per game on the ground.

Agree. Miami is giving up 5.0 yards a carry and over 144 yards a game. They have the 29th ranked defense. Run, run and run again. Their offense is terrible as well but that worries me more. How bad of an offense you truly are is inversely correlated with how well you will play against the Pats D.

Run, run, but not the very first offensive play. Play-action pass one time first as they will be totally keyed up expecting the run and wanting to set a tone. Then after that uncertainty has been given, ram it down their throats.

d%#*!@t! You just gave away our opening drive to the Phins here.

Lo and behold, the Steelers are again on the slate next week. Don’t expect the Patriots to make that same blunder twice. Last year, the Pats could afford to lose the game and still secure home-field advantage for the playoffs with a win over Pittsburgh. The 2018 version of the Pats does not have that luxury. Miami is on the cusp of a playoff berth themselves.

There won’t be no overlooking them this time. Expect a much better game this week. And look for the Patriots to pound the ball in the running game. We’ll have much more in our keys to the game tomorrow.

Pound the rock, yes...but not just vanilla up-the-middle crap. Use all of our weapons, including The Experiment, and all of our formations.

This team needs to get its passing game up to its fullest potential, and they'll be facing a team that just lost it's best DB. Why would you want to piss away the opportunity to continue improving the rapport in the passing game?

I'd prefer the both/and approach for this game instead of either/or.

Well, you would have thought the Pats could have run the ball but I did assume the Pats D would make the 29th ranked Miami offense look unstoppable.

Sorry, Mosi. The last time we could run was when James, Collins, and you were in the backfield. Patterson and JE11 make our average look good because of all the gadget plays we run...but when RBs carry the ball, we are pedestrian at best.
